http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xY8MOmmK1QY i had seen all of these, and it seems as a plausible alternative, that guys looks weird after its done but i believe i personally would do a better job at building it. just wondering if anyone has done this or if anyone has any ideas, please don't say "go buy a kit" cause i have looked and since im 16 i don't have the money to throw around

    That is pretty interesting....

Are you going for accuracy or just something similar?

However, I disagree with his claim that an accurate costume would be $2K to $4K....try closer to $400 to $800

so, i'll trot out one of the most often repeated lines out there

making your own stormie armor, if you want something that really looks good, will cost you more than buying a kit. seriously. glue, filler, plastic... they all add up. fast. i've spent $500 in the last 2 weeks for materials to make stuff out of... glue, sandpaper, bondo, fiberglass, silicone, etc...

now, closer to $400 - $800 i also have to disagree with... even the cheapest TK kits i've seen are more than $400, and the cheapest "accurate" kit i know of is $800 just for the plastic parts. but that's all a matter of what "accurate" means to you!

i'd have to agree. there's a lot of plastic involved in making a suit of stormie armor and it would end up costing a lot in plastic alone to make a complete suit. not to mention the screen accurate thing... plan on a lot of screw ups, criticism, and reworked parts if that's what you're going for.

none of this stuff is cheap to build or buy no matter which way you look at it. a fett suit may be a lot easier and cheaper to scratch build than a stormie, just because it doesn't cover every part of your body, and even a homemade screen accurate fett is gonna cost a decent chunk of change to build.

go for it though. obviously the only way that you're going to be satisfied is if you try it, so try it!
go to one of the stormtrooper forums for support and help. i know that templates exist for stormie armor somewhere and i'm sure that someone on one of those forums can hook you up. i don't know about the screen accuracy of those tk templates though, and i'm pretty sure that you're out of luck with the helmet as those rounded areas and angles are hard to translate into a template. (i may be wrong though)

    good luck!

0:44 into http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbhAI...eature=related this link he mentions that he left the gut piece low so that he could be flexible i think it makes the suit look as ugly as Rosey O'donald, so i will make mine as accurate as possible to a FX suit or any replica for that matter. but for right now im finishing up my boba and im gunna start building the mannequin out of pvc... if desired i'll post a new thread about my progress. and then after that, im gunna make a dath vader, and then a lil easier character... a tusken raider. these all will set in my room on seperate manneguins.they will look great set'n next to my mame machine, and on left and right of my projector screen. good thing i live with my parents, so they can rund my purchases lol

slim trust me, just shell out the $800 for a good quality suit. Building a accurate version from scratch is going to cost you just as much if not more and you will be FAR happier with the results. I wish I had done so with my Boba, instead I got duped with SFP, and have spent almost double what I initially did to replace most of the parts. The old saying "You get what you pay for" is usually right, if you go into a project trying to buy a cheaper suit, you're going to get one, but at the cost of quality. I saw his completed suit, and it's a horror, nothing looked anywhere approaching good. Had it been done by a 12 year old I'd have been impressed. ACTUALLY this suit was made by a 12 year old and his dad, and they completely made the stormtrooper guy look like a spastic monkey.
