Darth Traya from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
(Made in honour of my friend Demon)

Darth Traya is the magnificent, malevolent force driving the player's experience in the role playing masterpiece, Star Wars, Knights of the Old Republic II, The Sith Lords.

Darth Traya character render

I met a wonderful being last year at the Celebration IV convention. A being who, to my great delight, thoroughly recreated the character of Darth Traya.

Demon as Darth Traya.

Demon has since become a very close friend of mine. And when I speak that Demon is my friend, I use the word in to the fullest sense. One night as we were exchanging beliefs, the idea to modify a Virgin Mary statue to become a miniature Darth Traya struck me. And thus;

Today, at last, Demon received the package bearing the artist's proof. I am overjoyed that she has it at last and loves the gesture. (It was a surprise, I have been holding in for too long.)

Be well,
Thomas

I wonder what the catholics would say to this..!

I've got to admit, me being raised Catholic this kind of doesn't sit too well with me considering you're taking what's supposed to be a pure, good figure and making it into something that's not but...but hey, to each his own. I'm not offended and I know it wasn't Thomas' intent to offend but its certainly something that makes me a bit uneasy.

I am a Greek American. I too was made to worship and study Catholicism. At one point in my development, I even sought approval by becoming an altar boy. That decision and events to follow actually lead to my leaving the Church.

For my point of veiw, I am taking an icon which has no meaning to me, and fashioning it after some one I care for. I concede that the material will be viewed as controversial. But it is in fact nothing new;

Consider the Iron age belief systems of Europe. Imagine a folk with no concept of Hell or of a devil. A folk that worshipped the nature that directly effected their lives. A folk that took responsibility for their own actions, never blaming it on some fantastic evil force.

One nature spirit revered through-out Europe and parts of Asia is now referred to as Cernunnos, (Horned one)

This spirit-god was a symbol of health and fertility.

But his worship worked against the complete control of the invading Holy Roman Empire. The conquerers sought to wipe his following out. They declared that this horned nature spirit was The Devil, and that those who followed him would go to the newly formed concept of Hell.

Blessed be,
Thomas

Again, I don't think it was something horrible... not at all upset. Just something doesn't sit right. Maybe it's just my upbringing coming back to haunt me. :lol:
