Custom wall mount helmet display fixtures

Drewski

New Hunter
I have 3 helmets to display on wall above my TV but no shelf or stands. The cost of good stands and a shelf big enough is a pain. So I made these simple brackets that are very affordable. Metal piece from Home Depot $3.50 and wooden plaque to cover top of bracket $2.00 at Hobby Lobby. This first one was made big enough to accommodate the large Vader dome but looks good with other size lids. The wood plaque will be black with a red empire logo decal.

Is the metal piece already bent that way from Home Depot? Any pics on how you have everything together? I've been wanting to do something like this for my helmets & Batman cowls. Thanks for posting:)

Details as requested...The metal used was not pre-bent, it was a straight piece 3/4 in. wide, 1/8 in. thick and 36 in. long zinc plated. I started with the simple 90 degree bend 2 in. section that attaches to a 4 in. wooden circle cut from a piece of scrap i had. Thats the pad the helmet sits on. I needed about a 6 inch radius bend...for that i used the base of a coffee can. The metal was clamped to my workbench and a 1x2 cleat was placed at the point i wanted the bend to start, this kept the can from moving. The metal is lightweight enough to bend easily around the base of the can. I used all 36 inches of the piece, 2 at the pad, 8 to the start of the bend, 10 inches around the bend, that left 16 inches against wall. The wooden plaque is 7 inches in diameter and just hangs over mounting screws on its own hanger.

Hoping thats enough details, thanks for looking. Ive also decided to stain the plaque red and use a silver/metallic vinyl decal.

For the past 2 months I've been doing my first scratch build....a Fett helmet. This has given me absolute inspiration..... I'm going to mount it like yours in my little lad's bedroom!
