I think its going to be a gigantic mutant sea monster. and not a new godzilla movie. your thoughts ?
who cares , not to sound like a jerk , but if i heard right its al lshot from the perspective of a home video camera, (blair witch style) and that's just not for me
See...it has been stated that Cloverfield is the USA's version of Godzilla. Godzilla was a lizard effected by nuclear testing zone radiation, and Cloverfield was a Whale that was effected by nuclear testing zone radiation.
As for the camera stuff...as long as it isn't rediculously shaky...
yeah i also wonder what kind of monster... some scenes remind me of Godzilla...
Interesting that you guys are bringing up sea monster, considering the trailers have hinted at the monster being some kind of massive lion. In the second trailer, there was even the shadow of one of the "offspring" monsters, and the silhouette of its head definitely looked feline. Perhaps the sea monster bit comes from the concept art that was leaked, showing a possible form of the monster. However, I believe that concept art has been debunked.
Just finished watching the trailer with my girlfriend, and we both agree it definately came from the sea. If you have a look at the poster, there is what looks like a large wake mark going from the statue of liberty towards the mainland, indicating that it possibly walked along the bottom until it got to the shore.
As for lion/whale, i don't think we will actually know until the end, after all this is the director that managed to keep us guessing about the lost monster for well over half a season, and it turned out to be a freaking polar bear in the middle of the tropics!
Cannot wait for this one, it's like blair witch+Godzilla+Guns= Awesome
From what I read from someone who got to see a screening of it, the face resembles a human's face, with red eyes, and that its huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge. From what I understand, its sopposed to be an alien. From this, people get bit or "infected," and burst open with a bunch of baby monstars running out of them.

well jj wanted to make this a godzilla like movie but not godzilla. He wanted to make a movie that was like how godzilla was to japan. basically a godzilla for america so that america would want to see over and over and over
any way its looks really cool and im going to see it
If a nuke created it, a nuke can finish it off.
And if that dosen't work, we'll enlist Chuck Norris's help.
yea the sea is so unpredictable, since we have only explored something like 5% of our waters theres gotta be something big waiting to crawl on land like how the dinosaurs came to be, we have all seen how history repeats its self over and over you add all our chemicals and radio active materials we have created plus sea creatures we got some problems. an alien maybe that grew in the sea with out us knowing is possible but if there is other creatures with this big one its possible they are just parasites to scale with this larger monster like ticks or fleas. People keep hinting it to just be a remake of some old monster movies like the beast from 20,000 fathoms but what we have seen with lost I'm sure its a completely new monster with possible tributes to some classic monster movies tied in, but i hate to say it but hasn't New York city had enough attention in movies maybe make a monster movie in a different city for once lol. I know its big and is close to water but why not have something wipe out Mexico then work its way up to Canada and have a last stand with it in Greenland. I'm going to go see this film but I'm getting sick of this all this Hollywood and New York stuff. the host was cool Korea's monster movie. Like if you take a look at the 28 days later where england is over run with the rage virus that movie had so much more of a realistic devastated feel then that terrible I am legend film. maybe its just me but they gotta have a change before everyone gets bored of seeing New York in shambles. why not a film where a couple is on Vacation in the tropics and they get infected with some virus that grows and grows and eats them alive and the virus gets bigger then these little beasts spread around the world from being left on airplanes and hotel rooms and the whole world is infected not just New York. And the more they feed the bigger they get so when they get to lets say Africa they work their way up the food chain and can eat elephants whole then move into the ocean and end up eating whales, then this gigantic monster can take out cities no problem. just some random thoughts and ideas
**** thats a lot of writing Walsh, but I do agree with you. Every stinkin movie happens in New York.
That scene where see the silhouettes of mini monsters chowin down on someone is actually not what it looks like. I have seen production stills (google it) and they are people in hazmat suits grabbing a civilian.
Maybe it's a Kraken if it's got a humanish face.
This is from someone who saw a screening, there is a link to the monsters picture as well as the complete synopsis of the movie...
spoilertastic...

No way it could make it to Greenland. We Canadians would trap it in a massive igloo, feed it some back bacon, Tim Horton's donuts, and Molson Canadian, maybe watch some hockey, and become good friends, eh. He could troop with us Badlanders wearing a Rancor costume. It would be awesome.
We didn't really see the Lost monster for two seasons.. and it sure wasn't a polar bear..
I remember rumors going around that this was going to be a Voltron movie in the beginning..In the first trailer that came out, when someone says, "It's alive! It's huge" alot of people thought he said "It's a lion"
The movie doesn't look all that shaky on the tv commercials, but it looked very shaky when I saw the 2nd trailer on the big screen.. Hoping I don't walk out of there nauseated..
Spoilers:

I was at the test screening at Paramount a few weeks back. I was lucky enough to be let in thanks to a connection that didn't initially come through at first. I've been a member of unfiction for quite awhile (since before "CF" became a phenomenon on this board) but I can't tell you who I am. I'm sorry. I know that everyone will immediately discredit this entire post because of that, but the movie comes out in a little over a month so you don't have to wait long to find out whether or not I'm *beep*
I'm not going to be vague in my review like the others have. Quite plainly: If you don't want spoilers, get out now. I was a member of a test panel that included four or five other people that didn't even know what the hell Cloverfield was. (Only one recognized JJ in the opening credits and asked "Is this the LOST movie?") I'm actually kind of upset I let myself be in on this panel, to tell you the truth. So much of this film demands to be seen in a theater with surround sound, the works.
Turns out it's just the "Where's the beef?" woman back from the dead.

That "review" was proven complete BS 2 weeks ago.
If need be, I can post the link to the thread where he admits it was fake and was ripped to shreds over it.
As for the monster, that's not it.
That pic is from this forum:
http://www.conceptart.org/?artist=Smellybug
It's a monster from a Video game. Peter Konig IS the creature designer for Cloverfield, and I've been e-mailing him. There are no pictures of the monster anywhere, and no plans to release them before the premier. So if you find a pic of the monster before 1-15-08, it's fake.
Here is where you can see the video game maquettes, etc:
http://massiveblack.com/mbNew/html/company.shtml
The first public screenings of the movie will be on Jan 15th, in selected cities. Oh, and there have been NO pre-screenings of the movie yet, so any review is fake as well.

This is getting better by the minute.
I remember seeing the first trailer at a screening of "Transformers" and a few weeks later, everyoen was speculating on it being Voltron, Power Rangers, Godzilla, etc.
It's going to be one wild ride.
Here you go guys a sea monster. Monster tails covered with parasites
That's the pic I remember seeing before.
If that's the creature they're using, it could be either perfect.... or a failure depending on how they animate it.
It would be cool but they have done a good job keeping it low key.
Nope, thats one persons speculation on the monster, but thats all it is, a guess.
Its a giant slug
that whale concept photo makes snense
Awesome movie!!! The creature, the handheld filming and effects actually worked well together. ITS NOT Blair Witch. You do have to keep your eyes open for hidden things throughout the movie. Very good over all
What does the critter look like?
I've got to know!!!!!
Yeah, nobody around here finds the trailer interesting, said they don't want to spend $10.50 for popcorn and a headache.
Yes, don't be selfish. Tell. Now.
I was going to see it today, but I completely spaced it off.
I'm curious to know what this critter looks like as well. Not curious enough to spend $11 to see it though...I'll wait til video!![]()
The pics above are nothing like it. Its a cross between...I still cant describe it. Cant help ya out. The parasites/lice things are like the creatures from Starship Troopers and Pitch Black but dog size.
You have to go see it to appeciate it.
going tomorrow.. already got my tickets!![]()
Just got back from seeing it. If you guys are curious I think I can get my boyfriend to draw up a quick drawing of it. I mean a really quick drawing.![]()
I just wanted to bother you for a second...
I too am a lady building a fett, ROTJ for me though, and I was wondering how you deal with a few things...
how tall are you for one (i'm short)
and do you umm. restrain your chest in anyway?
i was thinking of just a sports bra type that holds them kinda flat and then using some shoe lifts.
and do you talk ever? or just try to do the silent type since it's canon anyway ehehe
thanks for your time!
Great movie. The handycam effect worked nice for it, it created the illusion of actually being there.
Did anyone catch the ending with the ocean?![]()
WOlfie, I'm not trying to be an idiot, but could you refrain from posting off-topic in threads? If you want to ask her, do it via PM or start a enw thread.
Not being harsh, just trying to maintain order.... I wodner if I would be a good mod or admin.....
Anyway, on topic:
If your BF would do a sketch, I'd love to see it.
Hey Wolfie I"ll answer your q's in a PM
Alright here is just from memory mind you. Please don't nit-pick it apart. I am sure in the next couple of days there will be countless real photos of the beast from other people. But just to statisfy those who are curious
For those that don't want to see it shouldn't be reading this thread anyway

Yep, it's a boy
It's..... interesting. I look forward to seeing this on film, should be pretty neat.
yeah that 'thing' coming out of his tummy. I am not sure you don't see it til the end of the film in the 'money shot' Where you see the whole beast in all his glory. Almost looks like a tentacle to me.
But if you go see it see a matinee. It was entertaining. And the camera movements were not as bad as I thought. Just sit really far back in the theatre so you can see the whole screen w/ out your head having to pan and scan it back and forth.
I just saw it this morning. Not sure what to say about it. THe shakey camera gave me a headace. Would have like to know where it camee from and if it actually died.
Is it a tripod?
Holy ****!

I saw this on youtube and wrote it off as BS. But if that sketch is accurate, It really makes me wonder if it was intensional.
Edit: ??? "C r a p" is censored on this board???
Yeah, it's censored out.. I think it's something about postive vs. negative criticism ... There's a thread about it somewhere.
That video..... the way he edited it I thought my eyes were actually seeing a hidden image... until I rewound it and saw what he did: Digital augmentation.
I also saw another video that reveals that Toho Ltd. is going to make more Godzilla films, but not until 2013... That's the best entertainment news I've heard in a while.... aside from the announcement 2 years ago about Peter Cullen voicing Optimus Prime.
Did you listen after all the credits and music and before the lights were turned on?
Tuba, the last pic reminds me a lot of Cthulu..... did I spell that right?
While I haven't seen it yet..I needed to make sure you see the monster in it. And what it is supposed to look like.
ya its weird so it still lived maybe a second one somehow ?? and to every one who seen it y does the girl who getts bitten expload??? i really didnt understand that was is like a invection exploading pareisit in her blood ?? any help on that one
There will be plenty of Cloverfield movies in the future. This one was just from the POV of the people getting stomped by the monster. The next one I am sure will concentrate on where the monster came from and why things happened in this 1st film. See....they can't answer all your questions in the 1st movie. Than there wouldn't be a need to see the sequels. The producer JJ has already been quoated to saying this is "America's Godzilla" and "there will be more movies to follow"
I saw it today. It was alright. I looked for something falling from space in the last scene, yet I missed it.
saw the movie last night. though i went in thinking it was going to be a let down i was pretty impressed. i can't normally do the handheld video thing, but if this movie had been filmed any other way it wouldn't be as powerful. The special effects are fantastic and it kept my attention. There were questions left unanswered and a lot of people i watched it with were pissed, but i think since we as viewers were supposed to be the common civilian, we too were left in the dark like rob and beth and all them. all in all it was pretty sweet!
I thought it was a great movie. It's funny now going back and seeing everyones ideas and concepts of what the monster was going to be abd to see how far off they were.
I have to say I was disappointed. Ususally they leave a big twist or something cool outside of the trailer, and this movie didn't. Pretty straight-forward run / blood / scream flick.
I did wait thru the credits and the 'it's still alive' , although we didn't know for sure - was expected in a cliche sort of way.
Question: At the end when the creature 'ate' the camera man, didn't it seem smaller than a creature capable of destroying NYC? And why wouldn't it just eat him whole?
Did anyone else pick up on the thing falling out of the sky into the ocean when they cut to the last Coney Island shot? I didn't but it was pointed out to me later.
I just got back from it. I thought it was pretty good. Its different from other monster flicks. As for the size of it, you have to use other scenes where they show different angles on it. They show many angles to show its size. I mean the thing lunged at the helicopter that was above the city's skyline. How it dosnt look big from right under the monster, thats because if you see something like that from directly underneath it, i.e. completly vertical upwards, its really hard to estimate its true size. Gotta go!
The movie was fantastic
The dv cam worked great. it was a total separation from the spoon fed hollywood ****. there is no foreshadowing or camera angles to spoil the chaos. 15 minutes into the movie you forget you're watching a movie, it's then a fascinating documentary of trying to survive a disaster.
i can't even call it great acting because it was completely different from acting. i can imagine the actions and reactions of the characters to be true to such an extraordinary event.
as far as creature design it actually follows some true to life biology, as far as hosts living with parasites that do not harm them, but can harm others.
even the little character development was fine, and the relationships believable.
definitely buying this one.
might even go see it again this weekend.
