Check out Boba's JP in ROTJ
I was watching ROTJ to look for references on Boba's armor when I noticed the part where he was flirting with the backup singers. Right at the part where he turns to his right and walks away, I noticed that his jet pack has the damage that is yet to be inflicted by blind Han Solo with a vibro axe on the pit of Carkoon scene! My thought was maybe they shot that scene before the Jabba's palace scene and just let Jeremy Bulloch wear it for the palace scene since he was kinda low profile anyway. Has anyone here noticed this as well? Check it out!

I dont think the gash was meant to be damage from Han. You can see it before Han touches him. Its sitting on the ground (:lol) in the archives right now.

Don't read too much into these stills. Sometimes how a prop is used on set and how the picture is later edited in the editing room can be a process that in itself creates continuity errors, no matter how on the ball the continuity person, or the script supervisor or the prop master is. Sometimes one of these three people just screw up (or they all do). Look at this frame as evidence:

This jet pack has no damage at all. This shot is AFTER the other shots referenced, and certainly AFTER Solo 'damaged' the JP. Now, maybe it is a special rubber version for the stunt (in which case it was made long before it was decided it needed a gaping hole) or maybe they forgot, or maybe they couldn't find the proper one (I've seen this happen to props on all kinds of sets) or any number of other practical issues could've happened. My point is, filmmaking is a messy thing no matter how much money you are throwing on screen and sometimes these are just mistakes rather than some intentionally thought-out master plan. Also, remember, when ROTJ first came out, the idea of freeze framing the film at home in high quality resolution on your TV was just not commonplace or even a consideration. All the action in this sequence happens so quickly that viewing this in the theater, its virtually impossible to see these details on a first viewing. Now as for why the damaged JP is used in the SE, I have no idea, other than a block headed prop master or the original was not usable. Honestly they made so many mistakes in the SE Fett (shoulder armor on backwards) that it is likely they just didn't give a flying bantha poodoo about detail and continuity. Who knows. Then again, Fett's knees were on upside down in a scene in Empire, so there ya go. There are so many details in a movie like this to attend to, Lucas himself can't stand there and scrutinize it all in gritty detail (though he did try). There is limited time and money and people just want to get the shoot over with and get home most of the time.

That frame is an interesting one! Very good points Lufo!:)

I know there's a couple of threads floating around somewhere about this. I remember when this was first discovered, haha.
Re: Check out Boba's JP in ROTJ
Im not sure what Art said a while ago when this was discovered, I think this was not a stunt pack

That's foam? The detail is amazing for a stunt. That it has no 'damage' from Solo I would think was either a miscommunication somewhere along the chain of command or it was considered a non-issue from the start and they didn't bother with it.
Re: Check out Boba's JP in ROTJ
Andy, does Sansweet own the stunt pack I dont remember? I hope they picked the damaged pack off of the floor, who knows whats living up in it now.......:lol

Yeah, this was noticed a long time ago. It's because the flirting with dancers scene was never in the original cut of ROTJ. They went back and filmed that scene years later to add into the special edition cut of the film. Don Bies ( R2 driver and such for Lucasfilm ) was wearing the Boba costume during this scene when they added it.

I took the pics at Sansweet's house.
Re: Check out Boba's JP in ROTJ
Great observation. I don't think I would have ever noticed that!

I remember seeing pics of the pack in a case but wasnt sure if it was at his place or not. Very cool that you were able to do that, I bet it was fun.

Next time take the pics with a polarizing filter to get rid of the reflections off the glass. Nice, though. Thanks for sharing!

Next time I was planning on having it removed from the case. Steve is really good about those things.
Original Super Trooper blaster.

Re: Check out Boba's JP in ROTJ
Wasn't the damage supposed to be from the blaster fire from Jabba's thugs on the Sailbarge? If you look closely you'll see that just before Boba falls to the deck of the skiff the thug opens fire with a blaster cannon it hits the skiff AND Boba's pack. Then when Boba gets up he's hit by the staff used by Han which goes into the hole in the pack and ignites it. So Han doesn't cause the damage but "accidently" takes advantage of it.
However that scene being before the skiff battle (and filmed soooo long after) just goes to show how lazy the prop department were when they dug the suit out to use it.
