CARGO HOLD PROBLEMS

New Hunter
Im not wanting to start WW3 here but at the first half of January 2009 i purchased a helmet from FETPROP.

Some time later i contacted him as he had not sent the lid to me and stated that he had some tech problems with his PC. Fair enough i said, however well over a month later im still without the lid i paid for. The transaction was completed over paypal and he withdrew the money into his account the whole $90.

Does anyone know him or in contact with him? Im looking to get my hard earned $$ back. I never expected this to happen as i have bought several items from people on this site and never had a problem.

Im sorry its come to posting on here however as many people will be in the same boat as me, money is tight on the ground my profession has been hit by the credit crunch and in now on a part time contract.

I feel your pain....I'm in the same situation...I would file a complaint with Paypal to see if you can get your money back...you have 45 days to do so. Times are tough and making a purchase on TDH is a big comitment. and when sellers take the money and run is very frustrating. I'm starting to get gun shy about making any other purchases. Even from reputable sellers there seems to be some issues. EBAY gets a lot of bashing around here, but at least you can get your money back if you dont get your stuff.

Markyt1...thanks for bringing this up...hopefully we can gets some new policy and prcedures updated

Admins.....add this to the list of "Buyer Beware"

folks, please remember this quote from the rules of the board:

The administrative staff will not assume responsibility for transactions conducted on the board, and therefore will not act the role of mediator, negotiator, arbitrator or enforcer of any sale. These are private transactions, and the purpose of allowing such sales on The Dented Helmet is ONLY to help members sell and buy items from one another. However, if The Cargo Hold is used as part of a deceptive or fraudulent transaction, swift and decisive action will be taken. Banning of involved parties is one potential outcome.

let's not ask the admins to get involved in this stuff again... it comes up every few months, and every few months the answer is the same.

yep, if you get burned, call the individual out, warn others what that seller is up to, and really that is all that can be done...i have seen some members using their credit cards with paypal, so that the credit card companies can get involved and therefore more of a chance for a refund...paypal can do this, IF there is money in the seller's account...sucks, bad, but if admin wont step in, other avenues have to be taken...:facepalm

calling someone out like this is definitely the way to go... if sellers work solely on reputation, then damaging that rep is the only way to go.

another thing to think about... why can a board admin really *do* in a dispute? ask nicely? ban the seller? that's about where it ends... they have no real authority outside of their own little sandboxes. they don't have home addresses, phone numbers, or anything more than you do.

that is true for tdh and anywhere else.

recommendation for a "STICKEY"....

TDH does not let you into the cargo hold in till you post a certain amount of times and a couple of weeks have to pass before you get entrance into the cargo hold.

--Give noobs a heads up about buying. coming in for the first time is a bit overwhelming. So much info on the armor, helmet, etc...

1) start by having a "Making a Purchase on TDH" sticky
2) let the new user know how to protect them selves using paypal & credit cards.
3) let the buyer know he has 45 days to file a claim
4) use a credit card that you can make a dispute with. Most likely Paypal is linked to your checking account and there is no disputing withdrawals.
5) link to buy/sell rules on TDH

Arm buyers with the information need to make a protected purchase. That’s it....admins will not get involved, but provide a one stop shop for info on buying on TDH. That will at least give the buyer a higher percentage of getting their money back when things go south.

I don't want this to sound like I'm sparring with you, because I'm not... I really don't LIKE seeing people get stiffed on purchases, I've just gotten pretty jaded by it after seeing it happen so many times (it has happened to me too, so I know exactly what it feels like)

One of the things I'm most interested in here is how we store and communicate data, and how we can improve that.

But to the point...

There already is a sticky thread, but the subject isn't all that intuitive. It is titled " Jedirick's Junkyard Tips", and it's at the top of the cargo hold. Maybe renaming that to something like "Cargo Hold Read Me" or something would make it pop out a bit better...

It covers most, if not all, of what you are suggesting, but seeing as it's only been viewed 197 times it certainly isn't all that popular...

I have purchased a lot of stuff here and thankfully I have not had any problems. But I have to say unfortunately post counts can not prove trustworthy or not. The Jango boot fiasco proves that, http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php?t=26849 I hope everything works out for those guys.

Stormtrooperguy....thats what I'm talking about....I never seen that post...this is the first PM you should get automatically when joining TDH....the first thing I want to do was go to the cargo hold....if I would have known this and my sticky about the Paypal 45 days and pay with a credit card not a checking account I would have made sure all my transaction were protected.......thanks :cheers..If someone learns from my loss and prevents a bad situation, well kinda lets the steam out of my anger :angry

That thread you sent says it all

If you did your best from the beginning to secure the transaction, then the odds are in your favor all can be resolved.

Just my gut feeling but nameing something "READ ME" or "FAQ" will probably decrease the number of people actaully reading it...

I mean honestly, how many times does one actaully read the liscence agreement or Read Me, when one installs a new peice of software, instead of just scrolling to the end and click "next"?
