Can anyone tell me about Star Wars Galaxies?

Hey everyone... I know theres a thread floatin around but I can't find it o_O. I've been a pretty hardcore WoW player and alltho I do love the game, I want a little change every now and then. I've always wanted to get into SWG. I heard that at one point they revamped the whole game and it's supposedly awful now? Is this true? What kinda races/classes are there? Can I get myself some Boba Fett armor? heh. I'm just looking for some info on the game before I decide to get into it ya know?

PM Hydra. I think she said she plays it regularly.

I had a friend who played it for a while, and he hated it after they made some changes. I've never played it, so I have no idea what it was like compared to how it is now.

I remember about a year or two ago they were giving away discs with a free trial of the game, I never tried it though, I'm waiting for the Force Unleashed next month.Boo-Yah!!!

For someone starting from scratch now-a-days...it's not that bad. For the vets, the old game was better.

I played it for a number of years. Some of the Mercs play on Sunrunner I think.

You can get mando armor, but it's not easy. It's a hell of a lot easier now then it was when I made my set about 5 years ago...it took a group of 20 people for each piece. Now you can do it with a good group or 2 of 6 people each.

Like I always told my old guildies, the game is what you make of it. If you want it to suck, it will...if you want it to excel then you'll make it good for yourself. =)

I log in from time to time...but I don't technically "play".

I joined I think it was right after the major changes, but I was a noobie so It didn't even bother me. If you do decide to make a person on SWG I'm on the Flurry server under the name Ribdo : D

i played it both before and after the revamp, here is my take on it: before the revamp, you were you, just you, if you wanted to be a bounty hunter you started doing bounty hunter missions, if you wanted to be a smuggler, you went smugglin. So on and so forth. The controlles where more complex and not noob friendly. If you wanted to shoot somebody you had to determine if they were long range or short and then select the type of attack (flurry, single shot ect). For money you had to actually work for. The path of jedi was almost impossible, you had to master certain things, collect holocrons and find the village of force users. Jedi in the game where like they were i the time period between ANH and ESB, they were legends and they were sought after. The first Jedi was a girl (her charater was, dont know if the account holder was or not) and when she first pulled out her lightsaber, the screengrab was in game informer and possibly Star Wars Mag. When I first started playing, I was interested in becoming a Jedi, and was told that it takes at least a year of gameplay to acheive, and nobody but the Jedi knew for sure how. A person on ebay was selling a book on how to become a jedi, I dont know if it was right. Since you cant play the old version the best way to see how complex it was is to look at an old booklet. My old version was probably 100-200 pages, the new was maybe 10. The Revamp is alot easier to play and is noob friendly..... and last time I was on..... deserted. Now when you create a new character you can choose his profession. Smuggler, Scout, Captain, Jedi, Heavy Weapons, and Artsian ( more I just dont remember the rest). I find it still a fun game and IMHO better and more interesting than WoW. I believe you can get a copy via a download from the SWG website. You can buy and build houses on many different planets, and even run for mayor in a clan town. I loved it and I really cant wait for the KOTORMMORPG.... even though I really want KOTOR 3 first.

Thanks!!! :D heh... Is there anywhere I can get a trial version? Or a copy for not all that much? Is it $15 a month to play?

I played the game and enjoyed it for a few months. I achieved master Fencer status and had a nice, big house. One day I was standing on a hill with nowhere to go stat wise and no point left to the game other than Star Wars Sims. I just felt it lacked content for the massive size of it all. I sat down on a sandy hillside on Tatooine, logged off and never went back. I'm probably still there. LOL.

Hahaha. I would love to be a bounty hunter character. I play that role both on WoW and EvE online. Wow I'm a hunter and anyone who has trouble with the horde will pay me to kill them. Eve I went special Ops and I specifically take missions or bountys to earn my way. Its fun! Is there anything like that in SWG?

I played it as grit outlander on wanderhome. I reached everything in master bounty hunter very fast except the bounty missions. I also had pistoleer and something else capped.

I would clear out whole cities, and then they nerfed the game:)

I havent logged on since. Im a firm believer that you shouldnt change the game system. If you want different rules, bring up different servers. For me every time one of the big games, revamps, I move on.

Theres no substituting for the nastalgia that playing starwars, or UO, or EQ brings when you first log in.

I may go back to it one day, but lord knows when that will be:)

UO was the bomb game! I took over my barracks mate's beta account and played for 8 years. Nothing beats seeing LB killed from the firefields when he was addressing the beta players ingame. I don't know why they banned the guy that did it, it was the GM's fault for not putting LB on invicibility.

Gotta love logging into a new land, especially when the land itself is new for everyone. Getting in on the ground floor of a MMO is probably the most fun of playing an MMO. They don't know how to make an MMO now-a-days.

I still play UO on the Baja Server! Loved the old game...tolerate all the new stuff. Ninjas for god's sake we have ninjas!!!

There's also the Star Wars Galaxies Pre-CU Emulation for those who didn't like the Combat Upgrade and all those new things... :)

I used to be a Master Bounty Hunter / Master Pistoleer and I loved the game actually.. but I quit a couple of years ago because I just didn't have time and the game had changed too much. And I really didn't like grinding, I'm more of a casual player.

The scenery was fantastic, that and the space aspect of the game was what I loved the most I think. And the bounty hunting, of course!

the games fun, like others have said, if you make it fun. i still play once in a while. its great for rp. player housing has always been a cool part of swg.
