Steve Sansweet could not confirm a definite date & location for the Celebration 5 Convention, even as late as September 9, 2009 at DragonCon 2009. (He also could not confirm the actual dates & location at the July 2009 San Diego Comic Con Star Wars panel.) I was at the Star Wars panel at Dragon Con (Sitting about 20 feet away from him) when he mentioned that the location and dates still could not be confirmed. He has mentioned the possibility of a Star Wars Celebration 5 long before San Diego Comic Con but the dates & location could not be confirmed until a few days ago.

Yeah...that's completely not true. I was at both SDCC and DCon and at no time did Steve confirm anything other than there would at some time be a CV. If you asked him personally, the topic would change pretty quickly.

As to the weapons policy, yeah it looks a little harsh...but you can get around some of that. Usually, if you disable your airsoft guns they don't have a problem. I've never in 4 years been stopped over my pistols or knife, which are all metal. But I also follow my own set of rules for weapons carrying:

1. If your going to pull weapons, do it mainly with others in a group.
2. Don't make any movements that would make security think you are a threat.
3. If your carrying a carbine or rifle, keep it in a safety position (pointed at floor or resting on shoulder.).
4. If you carry knives, keep them in a sheath that can keep it secured. Also keep them where they are not easily noticed.

As long as you make security feel good around you, then you don't usually have a problem.

How much are tickets to CV? Anyone know yet? :) I am trying to see if people in the PA/NY area are going and maybe wanna caravan down. Provided I can afford it haha

I've seen that they're $120 for a 4day pass...

EDIT: yeah...here they are:
Adult Four-Day Passes are $120
Saturday Passes are $50
Thursday, Friday, and Sunday Passes are $45
Kids Four-Day Passes are $50 and One-Day Passes are $25.

El1te, if you change your mind about the caravan I know that a few of the PA Mercs clan are going to come down.

There is also the ability to volunteer as a "in-costume Volunteer". I'm not sure what all that opens up admission wise, you would need to check the application on the CV site.

I'm heading down. Other cons are fun, but for anyone who loves Star Wars, the Celebrations are unmissable IMO. I'll hit up my normal cons the next year... for 2010, its C5 all the way! :)

Now that it's all settling in, I am bummed that the timing is off for alot of our fellow costumers :( I am/was/am hoping to see my favorite people, and I think LFL is out of touch with the core demographic. Those dates also fall into the prime remaining weeks of summer, wherein the regular general public plans weekend family events and barbeques and regional family vacations. I just came privy to an upcoming event in Hawaii for friends, that very weekend. They saw my post on Facebook and now I have to figure out how to skate around this, because I am going to CV or bust. Regular folks think this stuff is lame too, so I will undoubtly lose a "friend" over this one LOL. No matter when and where though, it's never going to be perfect timing for everyone.

About the passes to get in... I read that they will offer VIP passes? Any idea what that may include and what that may cost? Maybe some one who went to a previous Celebration may know?

I would like to get passes as soon as they are available online but if the cost for VIP is not bad I'd consider that.

Thanks!

I will be looking forward to seeing all my fellow fett heads at CV, The Florida Garrison will do it's best to be a gracious host.

See you all in AUG.

Was thinking the same thing. I'll be bringing my wife and my daughter and make it a Disney/StarWars Celebration.

Disney World August 7-11
C5 August 12-15

My same exact dates too! I already have my hotel room booked! My wife and kids are flying out not sure if I am driving or flying yet.....

Honestly, LFL has to be thinking less about the people who go to other conventions and more about the people who just wait around for Celebrations. As much a presence as LFL and Star Wars are at places like SDCC and DragonCon, if they had those really in mind then they never would have scheduled a date that made people have to choose between one or the other.

It's all about the $$ in the end.

Here in Arizona, school starts in early August ... (my local district starts August 9th) - so that doesn't bode well for families from this part of the country. I didn't realize that until today... :facepalm

People should realize that ANY date chosen is going to have conflicts.

Pick any time in June and it conflicts with graduations, Father's Day, and weddings.

Pick May and proms and final exams get in the way. Pick September and the majority of kids are back in school full-swing.

Pick July and SDCC, hot weather, and Fourth of July creep in.

So when is the right time exactly?
