Build to wear? Or build to build?

Some pre-coffee thoughts...

Not sure how many have experienced this during their suit-making, but I'm discovering this weird thing where I'm becoming less inclined to wear the costume I'm putting together -- and show it off strictly as a display piece. I'll most likely wear it a few times (a few parties and trooping events), but the idea of displaying it on a mannequin seems to be a better end result. Perhaps it's a result of putting in a lot of time and effort on the whole thing -- and wearing it means you don't actually get to see it. :)

Now, where's that coffee?

haha...for me, my Fett will become a display piece once i retire it from trooping. Whether it be when i retire from trooping all together, or if i just retire my Fett. I think it is a great display piece and sometimes with all we put into our Fett gear, it almost seems better to admire it on a mannequin rather than wear it....although the reactions from the kids when wearing it are like no other suit i own......now, im gonna get my coffee :D

I was more excited to build my mando than to wear it. I spent probably over 100 hours labor time, if not more, and over $300, if not more, and I've worn it twice. I'm putting a little more work into it this month and wearing it for Halloween, but I experienced greater joy in the build than the wear. :)

Build to build all the way. For me the enjoyment is all in the build. It's not even about having something to display, but just having fun putting it together.

Hmmm, I think I'm more in the build than wear camp. I have a stormtrooper that I have worn but only once. I made that whilst recovering from a serious injury and so was not in position to wear it whilst building it. I have a Darth Vader that I have never worn and only displayed but constructed to be tailored to me so I could wear it. I'm doing the same with this; it'll be built so I can wear it. I have to admit that I didn't enjoy the physical sensation of wearing the stormtrooper, it was a cold day but I was still boiling hot. I wore it for a short film a friend made and had to wear it on the tube during morning rush hour, no one batted an eyelid!

I had a biker scout that I trooped in for about a year. Then it sat for a period of time in my box due to having a busy work/life schedule. I wish I could have kept it and displayed it rather than selling it. I ended up having to sell it due to a major home repair issue.

Yep - I finding the same as some -- that the fun is more in the creating than the wearing. That said, I have yet to troop (or complete!) my Fett, so I won't be sure until then. Soon though!

True, the build is just as much fun to me as wearing it. I've trooped Stormtrooper, sandtrooper, and bikerscout many times....but the reaction i get to trooping fett is indescribable! You are really like a movie star..to kids and adults alike. I mean i enjoy trooping to begin with so thats part of it im sure. But when all is said and done, i love looking at the pics and seeing my Fett in action. So, it will become a display piece, because it really is one of the most interesting suits in the Star Wars universe.
