BTTF question

In the first "Back to the Future", when Marty returns from 1955, he goes to the mall to try and save Doc. When he gets there, the sign says "Lone Pine Mall", but, Marty watches himself go back in time, which would mean that the sign should have read "Twin Pine Mall" because he hadn't knocked down the pine tree yet. So, when Marty originally gets to the parking lot, do the signs change and, as he is heading into the past, does Marty reappear in the center of town? Very confusing!

Hmmmm... Very interesting temporal dynamics question Taco. I think that we have to assume that the Marty who just returned from 1955 has already irrevocably changed the past. I'm not an expert by any means, but I think that time is a continuous loop and if something changes in loop "A", loop "B", "C", "D", etc. would then demonstrate that change. Unless, of course, someone went back and changed it. Then loop "E" would then demonstrate that change.

So, that being said, at the end of the movie when the Marty who is about to leave arrives at the Peabody farm, there will only be 1 pine tree there to begin with.

Here is the way it goes. At the beginning of the movie, Marty goes to meet The Doc at the mall, in which the sign says "Twin Pines". Marty goes back in time to when it was a farm, runs over one of the pines. Later in the movie when he had to run to the mall to try and warn The Doc, the sign turns to "Lone Pine". .

Marty went back in time from the mall parking lot which takes him to Old man Peabody's farm. When he went back to the future, he was by the clock tower and that is where he reappeared in 1985. He couldn't get the car started and had to run to the mall.

More or less the situation is this. He had already gone back, and appeared in time to watch himself go back to the past, but had already accomplished knocking the tree down in his continuality.

Hope that clears it up

Here is my real question...why doesn't his parents find it strangly coincidential that when Marty gets to his current age, that he looks exactly like the Marty that helped them get together...and even name him the same.

Count Dookie - actually I saw this movie this morning and noticed the part I was asking about, and found that someone had already posted the same question on the other forum and instead of confusing myself typing it, I just copy and pasted the thread.

Satxer, that is something I thought of as well. Interesting...

Well, things I gathered from the movie...that because of Marty's knowledge from his normal time, that he created....Frisbe, Johnny B Good, and Clint Eastwoods character. Also, you know how he had to burn the almanac, losing all info on the sports statistic...he still can make a lot of money betting that Cubs will win the 2015 world series against Miami!
