it's been about 10 months now since i got my fett troopable. it even got me my tkid#. since then i've picked up a few items here and there but i haven't felt the need to do anything with them. well the other day i was cleaning up around the house and got into the closet where i've been storing an ms3 helmet for about 6-8 months and i got to looking at it, turning it over in my hands and really studying it. next thing i know i've spotted a few tiny imperfections and i've got my respirator on and a tube of bondo spot putty in my hand, and i'm filling these too-small-to-actually-notice pinhole bubbles. i let that set up while i go to work and when i get home i find that i'm uncontrollably compelled to find sandpaper to clean the bondo. i got out the 400 grit, a big cup of water, and i'm wet sanding the entire helmet in my computer chair.
as i finish that i look up at my movie shelves and there is my dremel, complete with a cutoff wheel already attached. that right there is a sign... a sign that i need to cut out the visor area. my respirator has magically attached itself to my face again and i'm cutting away. right as the resin snaps out of the visor i see a vision in my mind of my jewelers files sitting in the toolbox, and there they were right where i saw them in my minds eye.
i have heard the call of fett, and he is demanding upgrades. my motivation is back to take my costume to the next stage of it's evolution. you can all look forward to progress pics of the helmet in the next few weeks. by the summer i hope to be able to claim my costume is at version 2.5.
after the helmet i'm going to upgrade my jet pack harness to more accurate straps, rings, and hooks. then i don't know if i'm going to work on gauntlets or knees. i also want to get the sleeves taken in a bit on my flightsuit, and maybe install some stirrups so i no longer run the risk of being a high-water fett.
any way, i'm excited about working on my costume again in a way that i haven't been in a long time and i felt compelled to share. thanks for reading.
