Sideshow Collectibles is trotting this out soon; looks interesting...
That thing is horrible.
I'll make my own, thanks.
Yeah, pending the price you could probably just make your own that is as realistic as it gets
Could the head pose look any more retarded?!!!
I had heard rumors of a lifesize Fett some time back, but figured they were talking lifesize statue. I was thinking, "Yeah, figures!" After all the hard work and money I put into it, they were going to make a lifesize collectible that would be the one stop shop.
Boy, am I glad I was wrong. Not only is it not a full figure, but it definitely isn't the best thing Sideshow has put out. The bust isn't horrible. But it isn't great, either.
Right off the bat, the shoulder bells are too angular, and the chest pieces seem disproportionatley large and the center diamond a little small. And what's this? Looks like we still have got that pinched visor. What did they do, scan the MR helmet? Guys, this is the problem with using replicas as source material. Here we have a classic example of a replica of a replica. ALWAYS use the actual reference items, don't try to replicate someone else's replica.
Also, on the closeup pic it looks like the visor is just painted on. Blech! Here's a screen grab I did from the video for easy reference . . .
I just keep looking at this and groaning. I hate to be a nay-sayer, but this time I think it's justified. There was a lot of potential here, but they didn't take advantage of it. I was really expecting more, considering the excellent Gammorean Guard SS is putting out. I'm looking for a hunk of jetpack, and maybe that's coming since this is just a proto type.
I look at the 1/2 scale legends in 3D and, while that has its own inaccuracies, it just has a better (and more dynamic) look to it. Imagine the following made more accurate and at lifesize . . .
Ha. Depending on the price you could make a bust out of the items found here that are made by our fine community, Then and display with pride.
So I agree totally with TehEl1te
Ever since I've joined and learned "Screen Accurateness" I look harshly on any toy or replica.
yep my avatar looks much better , I cant believe they didnt fix the pinch , are they that out of touch ?
the pinch was the first thing I noticed, and was told thats accurate to the real prop.:( Of course on another site. I kept quite and let them be. Then all the other little bits started popping out as Slave1 mentioned. Overall Not bad but not good enough.
Reminds me quite a bit of the cookie jar as far as the amount of armor and wookiee scalps showing.
Well its basiclly the same thing with these two IMO. The pose isn't what it should be and both are lacking in details.
Its no big issue regarding the price for these two ($19,99 i think)
My point is just that the criticism around here seems to be largely fueled with an arrogance that I think is bad for the community as a whole. If you can do it better, than do it.
...and please understand that my reply is not a personal attack at anyone and I am sorry if I am coming off with negativity. I have simply noticed a pattern here for being critically aggressive towards licensed products. It may send a message, but I feel that overall if is more damaging to the focus of these boards which should be positive development. Constructive criticism is of course a big part of development, but there is a difference in constructive criticism and contempt.
If Side Show Collectibles is going to ask / charge $500 + for this, than it darn better be worth the money and I don't care what kind of perspective stance you want to take on it, this quite simply put... ISN'T WORTH THE MONEY! I don't know, maybe it has something to do with the economy, but I more and more have a problem with all these half hearted iterations of FETT, that are nothing more than quick cash grabs from the popularity of character! Colors are Wrong! Angles are Wrong! Details are Wrong! I just don't get it, they are more than likely granted access to all the reference materials and continue to mess it up! As it was stated earlier, look at the work they did on the Gammorean Guard, Darth Maul, Bossk for Pete's Sake and this is just lands up being another hack job attempt at Fett, Sorry!
And to say to fellow board members, if you don't like it, do it better... WE HAVE!!!
I am feeling no personal attacks at all like you said "a curse". I still own LOTS of Boba Fett items most if not all has design flaws, but I still enjoy it. Of course your right I have a choice to buy or not to buy. One of my favorite items just happens to be my first Star Wars toy. The first the 3 3/4 Fett ever released .:D
My favorite Star Wars items of all time are my old action figures from when I was a kid. They weren't exactly accurate, but it didn't matter, they were enough to fuel my imagination.
Don't want to pay $500? Fine, then don't. The business side of it will take care of itself one way or another. Last time I checked, that wasn't really the point of thedentedhelmet. I love accuracy too....just not to the point that it makes me bitter.
Well Ladies & Gentlemen, looks like SSC has the first sale! LOL!
I did not say that I was buying it. Even if I loved it I don't have money sitting around for these types of things right now. My issue is more with the culture of the boards. My aim is to be positive and constructive. You obviously don't have to agree with me and as I said it's not personal.
been real edgy lately
Why does it have to have that quizzacle "puppy dog doesn't understand" head tilt? I thought Fett was meant to be more meanacing?
Shockwave... in my opinion its not the fact that it isn't the best quality or exactly the most menacing. I was just saying for the price they are going to ask for it, I'd rather build a more accurate, wearable bust for a few extra bucks. You're right, there will be people out there that will pay a decent penny for this. I was just stating I've seen better. I don't think its a matter of arrogance... more or less a passion for the hobby. These people DO shoot for perfection. You aren't going to find a better, more talented group of people who know every scratch, every imperfection of Boba's armor like these people. It's only natural to critique something you are passionate about. It happens with everything... If that bust comes out and its a decent price for its quality, then awesome.
I think the sideshow bust sucks and it would not have been hard for the designers at sideshow to do a little research as we all have done and come up with something a little more accurate. Maybe this is their interpretation of Fett but for us here at the DH it is Blasphemy.
It doesn't look too bad. It does appear that they used an MR helmet by the look of the pinch. But at least it's near the right shape :thumbsup
For the average consumer, it's a kick in the bottom I think. I can remember back about, oh, say 10 years ago - I would have been stoked to
get ahold of one of these for a price like that :lol
QUOTE=ShocKWavE;488443]However, I don't feel the constant need to complain about others work like a lot of people seem to. Yes, it is possible to make a more accurate and perhaps more menacing version by yourself if you have the time, skill, and eye for it. Other people would be more than happy with this on their desk.
My point is just that the criticism around here seems to be largely fueled with an arrogance that I think is bad for the community as a whole. If you can do it better, than do it.[/QUOTE]
I typically would agree. But only pieces I dont' care so much about.
Take the Sideshow Raiders idol. There is a lot of discussion at the RPF about the inaccuracies, how the boat was missed, yadda yadda yadda. And I look at it and I'm thinking it looks like the idol to me, and the plating and the base are bonuses that sweeten the deal over a resin kit. But you have Indy freaks talking about the nipples being wrong. Why is this? BECAUSE THEY CARE ABOUT THAT PROP BEING RIGHT. I don't care because it's close enough for me, ergo it's not as important for me to have it 100%. And my response would have been the same as yours here. Okay, don't like the Indy idol, don't buy it. No big whoop.
A lifesize Fett bust, however, is something I WOULD take seriously, because Fett related pieces matter to me. And what this looks like is a missed opportunity to do something totally awesome, and they did nothing with it. Understand that I'm not complaining about them bilking innocent customers out of their hard earned dollars. More power to them. I'm just saddened the project wasn't taken more seriously.
I guess it's a blessing in disguise though. How could I have justified dumping another $500 or more into yet ANOTHER lifesize replica when I have a full figure one. YES, I said. I'm glad it doesn't look good!!!
What it boils down to (if I didn't say before), this is a representation, NOT a REPLICA. That's okay, people just have to understand it's essentially a big figurine.
This is not contempt, it is a critique of the prototype. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible for critique not to carry negative implications. That's why you have some creative types who accept critique graciously and choose to use the information to improve on their work, and then you have others who ignore any and all suggestions because the are an "artiste," and they know best, hence their work never advances.
I like to be able to hang out in the same room with everyone who shares our passion, regardless of whether or not their passion centers around absolute accuracy. Also, I like it better that we are able to make the best stuff. But, we are all different and there is nothing wrong with that. Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion.
Also, I should say that I get a lot more satisfaction out of prop making than prop buying. So, it stands to reason that people who are really into official collectibles will be more affected by these types of things than I am.
That said, no hard feelings and I'll stop side-tracking this thread.
No problem. I think it's fine to have diverse opinions on here, and it makes for good discussion. And, yes, many people have different goals in mind as far as this hobby goes.
That said, I actually LIKE that $19.99 bank and will have to get one and modify. Does anyone know what scale they are? 1/4 maybe? The way he's holding his hand, it appears a blaster might have been planned but didn't get finished in time to show off with the prototype? If not, I will certainly be considering scratchbuilding one and casting up some ammo pouches to fill his belt. Yeah, I DO LIKE that bank.
Why do so many of the figurine type items insist on making the rangefinder green, though? Weird.
Not to belabor the point, and I know there is no way we could expect standards comparable to the original, but I was hoping for something more in the neighborhood of this (with the little piece of jetpack peeking up). Please excuse my VERY crude computer paint skills, and you'd have to imagine it with a generic assembly line paint job, but you get the idea of the presentation I was imagining . . .
It's completely ironic that this Fett bust suddenly was recently announced, because I was on Side Show's website the other day actually admiring some of their past SW bust work and thought "When are they going to do a Fett" and SLAVE I, this is how in my mind I had pictured it, only with maybe a more aggressive downward gaze!
OH WELL! :cry
Well, on my version, the helmet would swivel so you could do your downward glance. And, of course, the Sideshow Exclusive version would come with a burnt section of Sarlaac tentacle.
A swiveling neck is a good idea. Maybe ball jointed with actual fabric around the neck.
Shockwave, I also do agree that people also sometimes ONLY point out the negative side in things and sometimes forget how to appreciate it for what its worth. I saw that a lot with the Avatar movie so I definitely understand your point there.
...and the balljoint idea is an excellent one :D
AVATAR... LOVED IT! No complaints there! If only the prequels could have been as good!
If the helmet were a seperate piece, a balljoint would be unnecessary, you could just reposition the helmet as you wanted it, as with my mannequin. Basically the head is rounded on mine and I've got the front face cut off so the chin doesn't prevent pivotting the helmet from side to side if I decide to change it.
It looks as though the SS version very well may have a turnable head, which would be a plus.
Unfortunately, on the helmet, the T visor is cast in, hence the pinch is permanent, unlike the MR which can be fix to a large degree.
New pics are up.
For $800 could they at least have painted on the right skull?
In today's economy, at that price point, the pinch alone kills the sale for me. No go. I will tell you guys this, if my dad stumbles on that, he would buy and dig that thing. It would be like on the mantle. So, to each his own.
Yeah, I received the Pre-Order email this morning, so I had to of course go and check out all the final portfolio pics to see if anything had changed from the sneak preview photo, of course, nothing had! Well, before I even started looking at the photos I see that special $800 price tag! :suprise I'm like are you kidding me? I will say that it's cool that the head swivels and range finder is movable, but the rest is complete ****! Pinched Visor! No portion of a Jet Pack detail! They didn't get the "Cat Scratch" even close and it is one the most memorable weathering details of the ESB / SE helmet and they couldn't even manage to get the cape coming off the correct shoulder stud! IT"S FRIGGIN' HILARIOUS! :lol
complete bust, kinda sad actually, if it was correctly proportioned and there was no friggin pinch I would have considered buying it after market cheaper and repainting it but with all these major problems it would be too much work to fix.
The tapering of the visor makes it look almost like theyve recast an MR helmet - at least for the proto.
I'm no Boba expert but IMO the MR paint job looked more accurate.
Wow - $800 is a lot of cash in these times.
Yeah... I was afraid it was going to be that much :( It's not terrible... definitely something worth getting, maybe at half the cost... The real deal could be made at that price. Still... I could consider it one of the higher end collectibles and even if it is not THAT accurate, it still resembles him pretty well... aside all the imperfections haha... to the common person who may not know any better (or care any better) and has a bottomless wallet, this is for them!
Added a few photo's and a "preview" on my site
New Page Here...
Star Wars Helmets Sideshow Boba Fett Bust
I have to say, after seeing the bigger pics it looks a little better. Emphasis on the little.
I can't tell if the bucket is too small or the chestplates are too big. Still think they shoulda had a hunk of the jetpack peaking up in the back like the GG classsics bust or the Legends in 3- D bust. Would have made the elevated pricetag more bearable, and I do hope plastic is inserted into the visor area, even if you can't see through it.
Do the chest lights at least light up?
Wow - Guys and gals, no joke, I could do this thing and have it movie accurate for like, 450.00 tops and that would include domestic shipping... 800 bucks is ridiculous.... Real visor, hell I'd even make it wearable and lit if need be... SS is really going nutts with their pricing.
Id even throw in real fabric...
Where do I begin... first off, UGH!!:thumbsd
If this is going to be presented as an "ESB Bust", the colors need to be correct.
We all know that the ESB shoulder armor are two different color yellows...don't even get me started about the Armor color. in addtion, Why are they using the ROTJ bantha Logo??? :(
This piece would be descent if they didn't use the MR production helmet #1, and was painted correctly. Otherwise as a base piece it's probably going to make some of us pretty happy to repaint.
What Sideshow should do is seriously get someone who knows what they are doing to repaint this thing... I have thrown my name out there. It's now up to them. ;)
One 1:1 Side Show Collectibles Boba Fett Bust with butchered paint job... $800 Dollars
One Accurate ESB paint job by Spideyfett to make the 1:1 Side Show Collectibles Boba Fett Bust tolerable... PRICELESS!!! :lol
Ok you win. LOL.
Some one Pleeeease photoshop this thing with the correct colors!!:cry
I just noticed they connected the cape on the wrong shoulder stud! dang ... so much errors ...
Not the exact colors, but a better pose with some adjustments.
And here is the color corrected version: (Hope I got it with photoshop)
Corrected the colors of
- dome and mandibles (+ powder burn on dent)
- shoulders (different yellows on them + burn marks)
I just have seen I forgot to darken the middle part of the armor ... :cry
Hope you like it spidey! :lol:lol:lol
I'd buy this version...
Guys, SSC is unfortunately clueless on this one and this horse is... DEAD! :b
Okay time to rip this thing apart!!!
they should've had me repaint it.... but nooooooooooo... UGH.
Here's the rest..... BARRRF!! :thumbsd
