Advice for first time Dragon Con Attendee?

Hey Guys.

So by a stroke of good luck and some super awesome friends it turns out that I will be heading down to Atlanta for Dragon Con this year. (y)

So I guess I just want to know a little bit of what to expect. Also any advice or warnings would be greatly appreciated as well.

I'm super stoked!

I have no advice, we don't get DC in tye UK :-(
But I am incredibly jealous, have a good time!

I have been going to Dragon Con for the better part of a decade. The best advice I can give you is pace your self, brace your self and don't waste your time with panels. The real con happens on the floors of the hotels. If you want to see the Saturday night Masquerade don't bother standing in line, go watch it on your TV in your room, you will see more and not have stood in line for 3+ hours. If you are physically able take the stairs when ever possible as the wait for any elevator will be a nightmare. Hydrate in the daytime so you can drink more at night (if you are into drinking). Most importantly have fun.

This year will be my 13th Dragon Con in a row, and it continues to grow larger every year.

If you are a drinker, don’t get blasted the first night there. I’ve seen it happen where people whup it up the first night and then are in the hotel room for the next day and a half feeling like ****. Pace yourself. Hydrate with water all the time (and Gatorade right after you get out of costume) – eat healthy foods if possible – start taking Airborne probably on Monday and take one each day you are there to keep the immune system up. Bring your multi-vitamins from home, etc. Lack of sleep and that many people in enclosed spaces sometimes leads to upper respiratory infections, aka “con crud”. Some years I get it, some years I don’t. Just try and follow the list above.

D*C is known for its panels. Go see whatever you feel like seeing, but play almost all your days by ear. Just get up and go downstairs and start wandering aimlessly. There's no way you'll ever see the whole con (it's on multiple floors of 5 different hotels at the same time), so just go exploring. There's fun happening everywhere, regardless if you are costuming or taking pictures of other amazing costumes, or whatever else you like to do!
