May 11, 2008, 4:12 AM - 501?
just an observation......as we all know star wars has a heavy ww2 theme including the weaponry and the stormtroopers, even down to the imperial uniforms reminiscent of hugo boss' nazi aparrel........but did anyone know and pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease tell me if this is old news or well known........but 501 as in the 501st was the initial membership of the nazi party. it started at 501 to give the impression of a greater membership. Mr Hitlers was membership 544 just for the record........just thought it was an interesting little fact.

That's a cool bit of knowledge there, bro. Thanks for sharing!
May 11, 2008, 8:53 AM - Re: 501?
I didn't know Hugo Boss designed Himmler's uniform, quite bizarre.
The number 501 was the starting number for membership in NSDAPs predecessor DAP, that is true. But did you also know that 88 is a modern code for Heil mr. Hitler..?
May 11, 2008, 8:56 AM - Re: 501?
coincidence i tell ya coincidence...........what code do you refer too mein flettch?????
May 11, 2008, 9:00 AM - Re: 501?

Don't worry, there's always alot of coincidences with numbers and numerals
May 11, 2008, 9:05 AM - Re: 501?
oh my god........i thought you were jokin dude. man that is weird. i was just lookin it up and Hitlers membership was actually 555.....man this is weird. well i guess if you believe me my forum name is because i dont like to conform.......renegade.....plus my favourite number 8........so i added another 8 as in ig-88........mmmmmmmm
can someone hold this shovel?
thanks for the info dude......thats an amazing bit of knowledge.
May 11, 2008, 9:21 AM - Re: 501?
No worries! If you really want to go insane on numbers, try the kabbalah or deciphering 666, the number of the beast
88 can be "double eternity" as well or.. anything else. Historically, what the word "renegade" means is actually a christian who has defected to islam.
May 11, 2008, 9:23 AM - Re: 501?
The whole idea of the Imperial army was based off of Nazis...

Indeed true. I once saw a documentary on the History Channel that compaired the Nazis to the Star Wars Empire. Their was a significant amount of similarities.
They even said Darth Vaders helmet was most likely based off of the Nazi army helmet.
May 11, 2008, 1:47 PM - Re: 501?
Actually I believe it was the storm troopers helmets that were based off the Nazi's. Darth Vader's was based off of the Japanese kabuki warriors again as with the other comment i made about Fetts armor I"m not 100% positive but pretty darn sure...lol
May 11, 2008, 1:53 PM - Re: 501?
I can see the Nazi - Vader helmet connection. German infantry helmets at the time were a rounded kinda thing, with a sort of 'skirt' around the back of it... looks a lot like the top section of Vader's helm.

The thing about starwars and the nazi thing I dont beleave one bit.
May 11, 2008, 2:28 PM - Re: 501?
are you serious? you don't believe it? you definitely need to watch the history channel and A&E specials on star wars. if I can find the torrent for it I will post it.

May 11, 2008, 2:56 PM - Re: 501?
here is a Japanese Imperial Samurai helmet it dates before WWII and was the original "Empire" so its a pretty good chance the Nazi's got the look from them. what do you think?
who thought we in for an online history class?

Yeah; nazis, zen, Kurosawa, westerns, Flash Gordon, King Arthur and Siegfried Dragonslayer.. lots of inspiration from so many things.
Star Wars: The Magic of Myth (MOM) is an excellent book by Mary Henderson. Beautiful, too!
May 11, 2008, 6:11 PM - Re: 501?
speaking of history channel, they had something today about numbers in history being used differently than today and that when the book of revelations was assumed to be written... numbers were used to represent letters a lot. And using the language the original text was written in... the number 666 would come out to represent Nero Caeser. Who persecuted the early christians. and the belief of the time was he was going to come back from the dead to do more damage...
so it matches with other texts that at the time they believed the beast that would come would be 666 or Nero Caeser in another form/resurrected as anti-christ.
as for 501st, Albin's official word was he just picked a 'military sounding number'
and there is a military 501st parachute infantry regiment , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/501st_P...ited_States%29
May 11, 2008, 6:20 PM - Re: 501?
No, the 501st wasn't Lucasfilm created. It was fan created. The U.S. Military has a 501st in it, and I've heard that's where the reference to the costuming group 501st came from, not the Nazi party.
May 11, 2008, 6:27 PM - Re: 501?
yeah the reference to ww2 germany in SW is really neat. The helmets and weapons are most evident, especially the AT-ST drivers and General Veers costumes. They are my two most favorite fascinations in life.
May 11, 2008, 6:38 PM - Re: 501?
wooooooooooooooooooooooooow what an amazing response......great stuff guys i gotta say its fascinating. i can see that the 501st almost 100% woulda chosen due to the army connection, i just found it interesting regarding the DAP and the war connections. It is amazing to see the influences and ive seen documentaries about Lucas' inspiration from ww2 dogfights, samurai battles and even the wizard of oz.......
thanks for making this such an interesting thread i love peoples input on this topic...........
one question though............................
does anyone know where the inspitation for our Boba came from? ive heard the spiel about the lamps outside ILM giving ideas for the lid but i heard that was cack......id love to know if he was sheer imagination or if any historic imagery was used to create the fettster.
