ALMOST FINISHED!! (6/6/2011)
I started about a year ago on gathering parts, and with another tax season and refunds it looks like I might be finishing up in the coming months.
I'm in Japan now, and some of my parts are in the US. My friend is gathering up my packages and shipping things to me soon.
Here's the parts list so far:
Helmet: Boba Maker (painted by him)
Flight suit: Lady Sews 4 Us
Boots: MOW
Toe Spikes: Mojo
Armor is all Fett Pride including what not pictured.
Gauntlets, I'm not sure on the maker. Guy I bought them from said bobadiewix painted them.
Ammo Belt: 99centtaco
Sidearm: dankenman
Gloves: GBH
Braids and Cape: Woodman
Not Pictured
Vest: Boba Maker
Girth belt: From Dover Saddlery will be colored by me. (I paid some guy who was doing a run last summer, but he just disappeared. So doing my own.)
EE3: Resin Kit (budget fett) and additional parts from Fett Dad
Shin Tools: Bobby Fett UK
The Rest of the FP armor
Last week I did the knees. My friend had an extra set lying around, so he gave them to me (Thanks Nathan!)
I didn't know where to start with trimming them, so after using Advanced Search I found two YouTube videos that GCNgamer128 made.
YouTube - ABS Armour Trimming I
YouTube - ABS Armour Trimming II
Using electrical tape as a guide worked well, and I probably wouldn't have thought of that and would've had uneven trimming.
For painting I used some silver I had lying around (after priming). I then used toothpaste to mask off the damage. I then sprayed a layer of Tamiya Yellow. I put a little more masking after that dried around some places I had weathered before. I then spayed a few layers of Tamiya Camel Yellow while misting Tamiya Orange in between.
Once that was done I put a matte clear coat on it to cut the gloss down.
To weather I ground up some artist charcoal and applied over almost all of the knees. I made it darker in some spots by applying more. I used the very complicated and advanced application method known as the naked finger. I stuck my finger in the black powder and rubbed it on the armor. I then used my hand and other fingers to smooth things out. A final clear coat and I have these:
I used the same method of weathering on my flight suit. Except I used a giant stone mortar and pestle and ground up a ton of the charcoal then dumped it on my flight suit and smeared it in. I left it out in the rain and threw it around the yard at my parents house last summer. If you saw Hobo Fett at Dragon Con last year, then you saw my weathered suit. I might do some more later too.
The boots I maked off the piping and used a primer gray to paint the boots. I messed up and soaked the boots in the paint and they looked way to dark. In a state of panic I grabbed a mineral spirits or paint thinner of some sort soaked rag and frantically wiped at the boots. I then used artist charcoals to weather and black shoe polish to color the center section. Ta-dah!
I got a ways to go on buying parts. It's mostly just small stuff (jet pack stabilizer, Studs for the shoulders, knee darts, pouches) and a giant jet pack that I still need to get.
Until the money comes in, I'll get off my lazy butt and build the EE3 next, and try to get the rest of my armor to Japan to trim and paint.
