Working on approval

Well Ive begun the pre approval process with the 501st, here's what Ive submitted so far. Now Im already updating the girth, its in the mail now (this is my left over one from an older costume), and I have to admit that the ammo belt isnt exactly what I had hoped for when I ordered it. The other thing mentioned by the GML are the wookie braids for SE Fett, I have one brown, one gold/blonde and one whit-ish, from what Ive seen in the gallery this is correct, can anyone elaborate on this?. So Im looking for any other suggestions from my fellow members here to improve my fett, thanks!

It also looks like you have an ESB flightsuit instead of the tan/sandy ROTJ/SE one. 99ctaco is doing an ammo belt run right now if you can swing it.

Im happy with the flight suit being the faded grey, and not quite as blue-ish as the ESB, I used this round of shots for reference, and the GML didnt mention anything about the color, but I might hit up 99 about a belt, thanks for the info.

1. You armor looks like its sintra ( we know its plastic the public shouoldnt...they should wonder how heavy it is not how light it is)
2. Your spats are white looking should be tan same with the hip pouches some pics show two colors for the hip pouches
3 Your beacon is silver it shouoldnt be just silver
4 Honestly all of your colors on the jetpack appear VERY bright like technicolor bright on the jetpack its VERY BLUE ( it looks like you used the MOM pack as refernce?)
5 the back panel of the helmet the concrete color looks to be a mint color not the greyish color it should be
6 the black stripe on the fuel tanks of the jetpack should continue around the circumfrance
7 there should be some trace of red in the thrusters circular section on the side and middle of the ball...
8 the strapping you have is super clean ur thong and knee strapping that is...maybe tone it down a little.
9 The flight suit is dirty in spots but looks like boba was brushing up against things not really out on tattoine dirty its very clean in spots not USED looking
10 the skull on the should looks freshly applied sticker? Its way to clean looking compared to the rest of the shoulder
11 You Flak Vest also VERY clean, bobas a dirty boy that vest is WHITE man
12 the hoses were clean once upon a time when they were new but bobas stuff aint new
13 You know your ammo belt is not right
14 the blaster is pre mod, id like to see a new pic with it in hand
15 You gloves look to dark in color, and thrown together...I know you like to put together your own stuff from what Ive seen, what you want are parade gloves (the white ones with a button) dye them grey add the white bits to them dirty em up a little for the ROTJ look. These look like grey gloves you found that are swede or cotton maybe I cant tell but they dont look right to me at all. they appear very loose on the hand as well. They should be more form fitted.

Is your rangefinder missing the polaroid lens? Sort of looks like that. Since you're making SE with the ESB helmet you should have that one.

What about a divers belt buckle does SE Fett not have that?

Now thats the kinda of input Im looking for!! Now right now Im just looking for approval, ubber-super accuracy will have to wait a little longer after Ive returned from over seas. Frankly Im tired of searching the Italian hardware store trying to find close enough colors and the sort with the language barrier and such.

Know future up grades/current place holders:
1.Blaster- either further mod or whole new kit.
2.Girth belt-already have one on the way
3.Range Finder- upgrade to aluminum
4.Gloves- currently Army PT gloves as place holder (although a little more than just thrown together lol, and they are actually quite snug)

Some of my gear info:
1. Chest, collar, back and shoulder armor are fiber glass, cod piece is FP, and knees are plastic (knees are first pieces of armor to get upgraded later.)
2. All decals are stenciled and painted on, not stickers (I take the shoulder decal sticker comment as a compliment! Ill dirty it up)
3. I do believe it was the MOM jet pack I used as the main reference pics- I am happy with the red missing from the thrusters for now (and I will be adding more weathering to the pack as well, this is a 90-95% paint job) Beacon will be painted as well, I did miss that one.
4. Jetpack,gauntlets and soft parts (flight suit, pouches, spats, vest and boots are all MOW)
5. I am purposely waiting for my ID number before putting lights in the chest
6. Mint on back panel will be repainted with concrete (again things like colors are hard to match up with my current situation and will have to wait a littler longer)

Now what I can fix right now:
First disclaimer- I dont know why, but a combination of the light blue background sheet and the excellent flash on my wife's DSLR have brightened all colors on the costume a shade or two, I assure you all, it is darker/dingier looking up close, expecially the JP colors, and flight suit.

Second disclaimer: Not to brag, but I am a paratrooper in the Army, so I am much more muscled than Jeremy was (perhaps thats why the armor looks so light on me) and wider through out my chest arms and shoulders (the chest armor is forced to curve off of my actual chest and wont sit flat, perhaps a more flexible armor would be better a little later down the road lol). As much as I want to wear the suit (and how cool I feel with it on) I am starting to think this will be much better looking on a mannequin after the fact. I just dont have the right build, none the less I will finish it lol.

I also thought It still seemed a little too clean in areas, I wanted a second opinion before I rolled around out side in it- so yes my fellow Fetters, I will dirty it up more.
There were also a few malfunctions with velcro Ill have to repair, but nothing too noticeable in these pics, and an easy fix at that. As for the divers belt, it is either not seen or barely noticeable in the SE Fett, so for now I am consciously choosing to omit it, for now at least.

I have read all comments so far, and see where they are coming from- I will do my best to better my suit- but please dont take it as me blowing you off if I dont change something you have pointed out, some things I do like as is (and Im sure we all do somewhere) and I think we all know that a Fett suit is never truly done. I will continue to improve up too and beyond approval. I thank you all for your inputs!! (and even though its not done yet its still pretty bad a$$! lol)

Please continue to comment of point things out if you will, although I am in the process of packing up and getting ready to return to the states, so up date photos of full costume may take a while, Ill do what I can for individual pieces. Thanks again guys!

Colors of the MOM pack are different frrom the AOSW pack which you should be using for reference for the SE Fett, if you take a look at the two they vary in color ALOT actually. Which makes sense why your colors on the pack look the way they do...not wrong for the MOM pack but not right for the SE Fett your going for...Art of Star Wars 2000 - The Dented Helmet Gallery

Maybe take some pics outside in natural light...the flash screws up colors in pics for sure.

I think sunlit pictures will change the way it apears though so try that out...dont want to go to far with the dirt

Sucks you cant get all the american paint colors in the exchange BUT HEY...A REALLY good color for the concrete is actually khaki ultra flat which Im pretty sure they sell in the exhange camo paint section like spraypaint. From Rustoleum....check it out.

Thanks 4 Real, unfortunately outside pics will have to wait, I live in an appt a few stories up, and not much of a yard downstairs lol, and Id order some RIT, but I really hope Ill be stateside before it would arrive, Im on my way to the local craft store today to try and find (sigh...) an alternative dye, Ill look for an off white tan-ish. And our exchange here really sucks, nothing for model paints at all, I think the only color I actually got from the PX was the dark main armor color green. Everything else was eyeballed at the local hardware store. The jet pack, again still a little fresh/clean/bright, I know, still in the works in terms of paint job- but again Im in the middle of getting ready to come home so major projects are on hold for now- I can paint a beacon and dye some pouches though

Well that sucks its worth a shot Ive seen it at all the Air Force bases Ive been to in the canned spraypaints

I just went through my "Army" spray paints and I just happened to have a can of khaki ultra flat laying around!!! looks like Ill be adding "fixing the back panels of the helmet" to the to-do list!!! Thanks for the suggestion 4 real!!

Fixed the mint green on the back (dont even know what I was thinking with that color in the first place!) Needless to say I am much more satisfied with it now!!, Also stained the spats and side pouches, I say stained and not dyed because I couldnt find a dye color close enough, so I stained them in coffee water!! Im actually quite proud of myself for thinking of it. I might go a little datker? what do you guys think?

Got my new girth belt! And some better gloves, had to get a little imaginative to dye them but it worked out pretty good, thanks 4 real for the parade glove idea, unfortunately uncle sam has gone nylon with no button at the clothing and sales, but they look much better than the darker ones I was using before. And the girth belt, man I wish I would have read up on how to color it before I blew 8 euro on red dye that wouldnt work lol, but the giant tub of blood looking stuff on my balcony looked cool lol, so I went with the spray paint method instead and viola, red-ish girth belt. Ive got a cleaver idea to attach it in the back, it just depends on if I can find the right pieces, Ill keep you up to date. Enjoy.

BRAVO, now add white to the wrist of the glove! That is GREAT man, glad clothing sales had something for you....I think I may go check em out this weekend, maybe something for trooping with? Pretty sturdy? Keep up the improvements.

I have to admit that I had scouted them earlier in my build, when I put them on they just seemed too thin, almost see through, I was looking for something more sturdy I guess you'd say, more durable, so I ended up getting the leather palmed PT gloves instead, but after you mentioned them again I gave them another look and picked up a pair for around 6 bucks. I dyed them in some water mixed with a grey humbrol acrylic model paint I had, work real well. After all its not like Im really gunna be bounty hunting with them lol, they are sturdy enough for trooping around in and maybe shaking some hands. The white band around the wrist will have to wait until later though, these will do for now.

The first set of Galactic Bounty Hunters gloves I got made me do the same thing wow these are thin. Yeh keep the white strip in mind...wont be to hard to add.

So as I stand right now, the only other things that the GML mentioned for approval that I need to get done are:
1.New ammo belt (I guess BBF is out of the loop for now) still working on alternative. Ill be checking with Taco next, any other suggestions would be appreciated.
2. Dirty up my flack vest and straps for the knee pads and cod piece.

I did a couple of other additional upgrades as well to include repainting the back panels on my helmet and gloves.
As for the blaster, Ive seen a blaster kit on evil bay for a ROTJ, the guy also offers an ESB kit, has any one seen them? And comments, It looks okay to me and I think Im gunna pick one up.

Just sitting on the couch watching some Olympics, making some ammo pouches, no big deal. Pretty much using the batninja method, minus the wooden blocks, instead I cut out some cardboard and stacked them together- much easier than having to combine woodshop skills into the mix (especially since I do almost all my work in the living room lol) Still light weight and sturdy, hopefully Ill have a finished product before the weekend is up.

12 pouch SE Fett belt done, for now, a few details still to add (mostly the grommets, have to wait till Mon to pick them up), but other than that, major building done. Im actually quite impressed with how straight I was able to sew the pouch straps lol, I am no tailor thats for sure lol, but they turned out well. Next time I may try to get the seams closer to the edge a bit. But Im happy for now.

Another round of full dress pics with the latest improvements. Im happy, I can actually see me becoming a better Fett in the process. (I still have work to do on the jet pack but that will have to wait until after I get back to the states and can set up shop.)

OK so how do you feel about dying the flightsuit next? Like take a color stripper and then dying it? You are on the right path though...did stormrider get back to you?

Small suggestion though, for your photography.

Is the cloth you're using for your background long enough for you to flatten it out and stand on it?

Also, tell your wife to turn off the flash on her camera, and try to light the room a little better using any other lights you have. Built-in flash ruins most pictures, by making funny light and harsh shadows.

You suit is looking great! Please keep up the good work!

4 Real, no he didnt get back to me yet, still working on getting a blaster, and I swear the suit looks good, its the camera making it look so light lol and Rubio: 1. no the sheet is not long enough lol, its just a bed sheet, and I know the camera flash is throwing everything off, but the lights here in Italy are very weird (some power saving bulbs that take forever to turn on), and do not give off enough light to properly take decent pics, so Im stuck with the flash for now, at least until I get back to the states (which I should know when very soon now! I only hope its in time to make CVI, the clock is ticking) Ill do my best for cleaner pics next full dress rehearsal, after I get back home. I also sent these to the GML, with the corrections he said had to be made for approval which were: Ammo belt, girth belt, general dirtying, spat and side pouch color and raising the belts just a bit. So with those things, plus a few other improvements, I sit here with fingers crossed waiting for a reply. Any other minor improvements I can make before I move will be posted with a quickness.
Thanks for the encouragement, I feel my Fett gets better every time I put it on. (just wish I had a mannequin so I could see it all with out having to put it all on lol)

Gotcha. If you want to take any more pics of the suit while you're in Italy, then try this:

With the flash deployed, hold/tape something very thin over the flash (a few layers of tissue paper/kleenex/even toilet paper). This will diffuse the harshness of the flash and give off light that is just as bright, but much more evenly spread i.e. no harsh shadows.

Im on assignment for recruiting, Im trying to get Florida, where Im from and near family (CVI is a bonus) but Ive been held up on paper work, should have been stateside last month. Every time I get one thing fixed another thing goes wrong. But I should have ironed out all the wrinkles as of earlier today, and hopefully will know where and when Im going by the end of the week, and hopefully that gets me out of here in the next 2-3 weeks. Where are you headed from Korea?

thanks for the tip rubio, I might try that, but if all goes smoothly from here ill be packing up the Fett very soon for the trip home, but I will keep that in mind.

Hey bud! Great progress so far! Some things to consider (though I'm not taking out of screen accuracy so take with it what you will :P)

1.) The jumpsuit looks dirtier, that's great! I wish you would weather the tan pouches too!

2.) I think you should considering weathering the back calves and thighs of the flightsuit. There is no armor or much of anything else to see from the back. It makes a world of difference visually to see even a bit of dirt to liven up the rear of the "composition" that is Fett.

3.) whatever weather method you use on the flightsuit, use on the armor as well (subtle like). Screen accuracy aside, it makes no sense for the flight suit to be slung around in dirt (brown) and for the armor not to be (no brown). I'm not suggesting smearing it on there but some flicked specs even of dirt color here and there would help bleed everything together.

Other than that though I love the work. Keep it up!

Thanks for the input archaster, Ive actually left the back of my legs clean in case I have to sit on furniture or someones car lol, I just bought a new car last year and Im a stickler for keeping it clean so I actually though ahead on that one, Ill work on the pouches a bit more, but the whole of the suit and armor is weathered and dirty, It shows up best in the pics on the knees and shoulder bells, the flash on my camera is just drowning too much stuff out right now.
