    WIP: SE Boba Fett

So now that things are starting to come in, I figured I'd start a progress thread. Hopefully not jumping the gun, but it helps me keep track of my progress and gives me a place to say "Thank you" to those I've gotten pieces from and hopefully helps someone as "green" (no pun intended) as myself have an idea of who to go to for quality parts. My suit is essentially going to be a TDH build. By that, I mean I'm getting everything for my Fett that I can from TDH members for a couple of reasons:

    1. I'm not nearly as talented as some you guys and gals at prop building.
(even if I was, I wouldn't have the time lol)

    2. I trust TDH members for quality products and advice. (people have already passed up making a buck off of my lack of knowledge to keep me from making a mistake on a couple of occasions)

    3. Without TDH, I wouldn't even attempt this. I find myself caring more and more about being a "spot on" representation of the the TDH community with everything I do with my Fett once I'm done.

I'm listing things with who made them and will update them as they arrive. Also including who they were ordered from, if different from maker. Please look at my list and feel free to offer up any advice or critique on my progress on direction. Thanks again to the entire community.

    So far, I have acquired/ordered:

Accurate Chest Decal (MoM Exhibition) (Bobamaker) - Awesome addition to my metal armor. Thanks Bobamaker for the extra work you went through to make looking accurate much easier.

ROTJ cape (Woodman) - Excellent quality at a very low price. If you can get your hands on one, I'd jump on it.
*side note-He'll weather it for a little bit extra. Saves you headache and he does an impeccable job.

ROTJ ammo belt(Boo boo Fett) - It is easy to see that Terry has truly raised the bar with these belts. I can't get over the quality and how natural the weathering seems. This is a belt that actually feels like it looks, sturdy and usable. It definetely adds to the realism of my suit. This is an upgrade, anything else would be "settling" for less. Because there is NO better.

ESB sig. ed. helmet (Master Replicas) - I love it. Although, I would suggest [in retrospect] getting any one of the great helmets available from TDH members. Then you have a helmet that is exactly what you want/need down to the letter.

Patterson shin tools (BFUK/Mojo-Fett) - If you don't have a set of these, pray like hell they become available again. They are absolutely "spot-on" in every way. Upgraded with the Mojo-Fett "found part" stylus parts, they belong in a display case. I cant imagine settling for anything less. Thank you both very, very much!

Aluminum stylus upgrade (Mojo-Fett) - Got these in. Absolutely great quality! Gavin, you da man!

JP harness (Fettdad/TehEl1te) - Wow! The absolute ONLY way you could do better is full metal JP harness ($300+). Great work Fettdad, and again, thanks Branden.

Gloves (GalacticBountyHunter) - The gloves are leaps and bounds better than the evolution gloves in build quality and screen accuracy. Couple that with the fact that they are made to fit specifically your hand dimensions, and you cant find a better glove. Thanks, GBH!!!

SR Foam Helmet Padding Inserts (Stormrider) - There is nothing I can say about these that would do them justice. If you don't have a set, I can only ask.... WHY? Absolutely excellent!
*side note- Pay the extra for SR to weather them, you'll be glad you did. Soon to be upgraded to the version 2 style.

metal ROTJ Armor (Wickedbeard) - First off, the armor is much sturdier than anticipated, and very well done. The paintwork is absolutely awesome and unbelievably accurate. Thank you so much, bruv.

metal ROTJ gauntlets (Wickedbeard) - Easily one of my favorite parts of the suit. The metal is far from cumbersome, but in no way flimsy. Again, the paintwork is top-notch with extreme attention to detail. Jeff, your talent is mind-boggling!

Chest panel light (Fettronics/ V2.1.1) - I have to constantly restrain myself from "playing" with this thing. No way you could beat the price on this, especially once you factor in that you can personally program your own sequence with up to 20 sets per sequence, (and 3 colors for the mandos) prior to ordering. Another thing is the ample wire to make placement of battery pack easy. Thanks, Jon.

ROTJ jumpsuit (Arkady) - Carole did an excellent job on my flightsuit and the material is really, really nice. It's not often that someone (who already has a great rep) exceeds an already high expectation. The suit is so far from flimsy, it's ridiculous. Thank you, Carole, so very much.

ROTJ Vest/Neckseal/Spats/Pouches/Santa Hat (DarthCarcinus/LadySewforus) - Wow, what a great team Deb and Mark make. Excellent work on all my parts. Again, as with Arkady's FS, the materials and stitching are really top notch. Now, per Marks advice, I'm off to drag everything behind my SUV aka weather it. Thanks, you two are the bees knees.

Boots (Caboots) - Gotta love good luck once in awhile. My Caboots came in, and I love them with every ounce of my black heart. The quality and comfort are excellent. Very well constructed, I can see, now, why so many people wish they were still available. "Thank you" to Martinwilliamh for his CH thread about them running a full size larger than marked and for Priscilla at Caboots allowing me to test the theory (w/ a gaurantee that if they didnt fit, I could return them). I wear an 8.5 mens and they only had 1 pair of 7.5's left in stock. Martin was right, they fit, and I am happy as a lark. LOL

ROTJ Jetpack + alum add ons (Mark Bradley/Boo Boo Fett/paint by KidAkira) - I don't think I could possibly love this pack and it's paintjob any more than I do.Pictures truly do not do it justice. It actually hurts to think about cutting a stunt pack gash across the back of it, but I'll manage. Thanks a million, Terry!
*Upgraded with a BFUK lighted aluminum beacon that really adds alot to the "Ooooh and ahhhh" factor of the JP.

ROTJ wookie braids (Woodman) - What can I say... the man is talented. The ONLY way you could do better is to get them in horsehair from him.
    * Upgraded to Woody's horsehair version. They are absolutely sick, and there is no way you can beat the price. Definetely adds to the realism.

ROTJ girthbelt (HorseloverZ.com) - Got it in much faster than expected. After all the horror stories from other sites, I was nervous, but am very glad I ordered through them. Thanks to DP74 for the heads up, brother.

Fett toe spikes (Russrep) - Great set of ali toe spikes. Definetely a worthwhile upgrade.

EE3 blaster (Master Replicas/Astro Builder/re-paint by Slave1pilot) - Wow! Well packaged by MR. Beautiful blaster. It ways a ton, which I really like about it. As expected, Nathan's paint job is absolutely amazing and really adds that extra realism needed. I couldnt be happier, thanks Justin, you are truly a "stand-up" member of this community and helped me out in a tremendous way.

12 watt voice amp w/ wireless mic (Aker MR1505/Memorex/TK6294) - Jim really did everyone a service by sourcing these for everyone. I cant tell you how much I love this thing. Uber powerful and clear. Plus with the mp3 ability to run simultaneousely w/ the voice mic, you really cant go wrong. BTW- did I mention they're inexpensive? Thanx, Jim

Helmet skirt (Booboo Fett) - Really wasnt keen on these when I first saw Terry offer em, to be honest. Now, it seems like a bucket upgrade everyone should have, and looks really sharp. The construction is spot-on.

Sonik....Check out this YouTube tutorial on cape a weathering. it's easy to follow and will give your cape a more ragged and battle worn edge. It's really a matter of personal taste, but I like 'em dirty.

    Boba Fett Weathering Tutorial

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b046u98yX_c

I followed the tutorial on my Evo cape and this is how it looks now.

Thanks, Astro. Completely forgot to mention that Woodman weathered my cape for me as part of my order. Updated on my list. Thanks for listing that tutorial, irregardless, since one of the reasons I made this is to help other new people.

    Comin' along steady, eh sonik?
The first time fully test fitting the entire outfit and then seeing yourself is just wild. On my way out to the back deck for the initial test fitting pictures, I got a glimpse of myself in a reflection off the china cabinet glass doors in our dining room, and I dint stop grinnin' like a doof for hours. LOL

    Glad I could help!
And great update post, btw!! Grats on the boots!
But that MR gun...a bit of advice, I tried using it during Halloween and while the weight feels great and solid at first, I thought my wrist was going to snap off after one walk around the block! If you plan to troop, I would look to go for a lighter, better for trooping blaster eventually. There's a thread here I read awhile back where basically everyone that has the MR blaster said the exact same thing, but did I listen? Na. And now I'm waiting for my other ROTJ blaster. LOL

I think out of any of the poses Fett has, that is my favorite one to do. Until I actually took a moment to look at that pic, I never realised exactly how tall of a Fett I actually am. (to give you an idea, that's a cattle gate) amazing what boots and a helmet can do. lol

    Carves, you'll get there, bruv.

Well, finally bucked up the courage to start my weathering today on everything but the flak vest. I used coffee grounds (thanks, Terry) and like the rust/red clay effect it has. Next I'll start the black, which will be done either with flat rattlecan or kiwi boot polish and a brush. Haven't quite decided yet.

Sonik....coffee ground effect looks great. Maybe there is a marketing op for Starbuck's. You can have the Bantha skull on the left shoulder armor and the Starbuck's logo on the right. lol.

Seriously, I'll try that technique when I have the funds to replace my EVO flightsuit. Another thing that looks pretty good when weathering a suit is if you live in a place that has red clay in the soil. You really have to grind it in for it stick after a was, but looks good. Can't wait to see your whole suit complete. Thanks for sharing the incremental progress.

Forgot to mention, Mary decided to help out with the weathering process.... although, maybe a little misguided. lol

The cat, though cooperative, was wholly unimpressed.

Great job there, brother. I don't know if it will actually help to set the stains or not, but I threw my suit in the dryer after each round of weathering.

By the way, wipe your face. You've got something on your lip!

Sonik... I used stain to dye my girth belt an it came out looking just like your picture. Not if the multiple coats will get you there, but it may. Any after dying my belt, I was able to take the same rattlecan color that I used on the gaunts "claret" and give the belt a light dusting of spray. That light dusting gave it the deep rich red color I was looking for without making it rigid. Just a thought in case you get to that point. Also gave it a very, very slight floquil grimy black mist.

Just finished second application, and though subtle, it definetely made a difference, especially where the binding is since that is a blend material. It's drying now. Pics soon.

    Re: WIP: SE Boba Fett

First and foremost, a HUGE thank you to whistle8mp!!!

Okay. I did this as a two part process in order to achieve a darker color (especially on the bindings which tend to be a blend rather than straight up mohair).

First I dyed it, wrung it out and hung it up to dry. Start early, cause drying takes a long time.

Second, repeated the process, except I allowed the belt to lay in the dye and soak for approximately 10-15 minutes. Then, ring her out and hang her up again.

If you can have someone help you by holding up the belt whilst you ring it out, it makes the process easier and much faster.

The second tint step acts subtly, but definetely worth the added effort. Also, this particular stain darkness as it dries.

The color I used can be picked up at any Lowe's:

Minwax water-based stain, #13 Spice Red

They have to mix it for you, as it is a decoration tint formula. But that color is a standard Minwax tint color. Hope this has been helpful.

After first dye app (indirect sunlight):

After 2nd dye app (direct sunlight):

    Done!

According to Jeff, very soon. All he has to do is paint it, but the weather has not been on his side. Then I have to take a trip to N. Hollywood for an armor party, attach the armor, have a belt built, buy/modify my JP.....
