WIP: Completing what Evolution props Failed to do Last year

pb strangle

Jr Hunter
This is my QUICK FIX, PRE-UPGRADE, INEXPENSIVE, GOTA BE FETT this halloween solution...

Background: Purchased an Evo-Props Complete ROTJ Fett From Ebay Around March '09. I did not receive the entire costume/props and was told in not so many words: "Tough S_iT sucka". I decided on finishing the job myself this year.

The Bucket was a flimsy disaster. Resin stalk was broken, visor was broken and bucket was warped. I assume it was taken out of the mold too soon. It's fiberglass. I baked it in the oven for a few minutes to re-shape it. I Affixed an after-market T-Visor and epoxied some of the interrior to make the Bucket structually sound and presentable.

The Armor was cracked, flimsy and I'd be embarrassed to ship it out to a customer.
So I re-did my own with trash can wrapped in flashing to make a super cheap, and easy metal armor base.

After denting, sanding for cohesiveness, Masking Fluid and "Line Stripe Yellow" Rattlecan...Pics 10.05.10 046.jpg
...after this dries and I go to work, I'll have the green layer on these to put up tomrrow. With a couple pictures of my PVC/Pine/Skill Saw knee armor. That stuff was easy to shape and cut.

The Gauntlets are coming to me this week from an Ebay member from the UK. Fiberglass molds.

There's hope for those in a tight spot to be The Fett for Halloween! Thanks for looking.

By no means is this a "Screen Accurate" set-
Raw PVC shape for knees & cut out knees. Also stage one of weathering. And re-painting of bucket to match armor.

Your doing the same thing I am , trying to save what you have . But I have no hopes to have it done in time for Halloween . :( . I like your knees idea do you mind if I copy it for mine ? What size of pipe did you use ?

I found this tutorial on youtube, but modified how I heat the PVC which was 4" Diameter. I Put alumin foil on top of the rack (SO i didn't melt the PVC) I put the rack as low as it goes, Oven on Bake 350 for about 3 minutes and this stuff is super easy to shape. Cut a line down the center to open it up (Obviously). I mashed the front of the "knee" into the counter top to give it that sort of "flat'ish" look That Fett's knee-armor has. I eye-balled the actual shape when drawing on the pvc pre-cut, then used a skill-saw cuz my dremel couldn't cut deep enough. Very easy, very durable, very cheap. -Joe

Got the gauntlets- first thing I saw was this:

Yes. I was thinking the same thing: "If these are broken, someone is guna' geta' lashing. Luckily they were not broken:

It looked like a box of long haired animals. Got them on EBAY from UK. Very fast shipping. Def. not for those who are not handy with projects from scratch. My first concern was my forearms not fitting in them. Playing Drums for 13 years and jiu jitsu for 7 years produces what I like to call "Pop-Eye Forearms". I had this problem with my Stormtrooper gauntlets. Although the Easter BUnny and I get along great...

After trimming, sanding and hopefully wearing the proper lung protection to avoid pulminary adeema from fiberglass dust...

PS I've decided the most "Realistic" Char Marks are from Roman Candle Impact. Yes. the fireworks. I'll get back to you feinds with weathered armor... Exciting, I know!
Thanks for looking. -Joe

I know what you mean about the forearms. Most of the guants that are high priced on this board won't fit. So far only the cheap plastic ones and Cruzers fit. looking good. looks like a lot of progress

Thanks dude. I have a few days off coming up mid-week, I'm going to do some gauntlet re-shaping to square thigs away... going to do the in-the-oven technique like I did to my helmet. -joe

I suggest you refrain from the repeated negative tones in your postings as flaming, baiting and disrespecting other members of TDH are not welcome here. Comments such as calling other members "super screen accurate dorks who are going to adjust your glasses and interject and critisize in a condescending mannor" as well as calling people "bozos" and "troglodytes" are not exactly viewed as complying with our Code of Conduct.

The gauntlet molds I receiveved were insanely "Un-Flush"... I decided to make them flush by two-part epoxying the seems, with the intention of re-cutting my own seam. Here is the epoxy before I dremel. Also, MY EMBARASSINGLY terrible and NON-SCREEN ACCURATE weathering. I apologize for the lack of work cited for this next one... but I used a member's idea of art-chalk/charcoal to "Burn weather", and a brown pigment paint/water solution to "dirty".

Ok- So... Trinkets and doo-dads installed. I used the tips of bic pens as darts cuz I'm super fabulous-ghetto... I learned that trick from a guy on this forum- Thanks guy I am unable to give credit to :-( The terrible FG mold came with molded resin pieces... some I used, some I didn't. Installed actual brass plumbing nozzels and couplings, sprayed silver and masking fluid also... I used elastic bands as a hinge mixed with Neodynium magnets to have them closed securely. I wired the Flamethrower Awesome Light using Radioshack electronics. I know, I know... I'm a genius... what can I say! *crickets*
