Hey another Aussie (Sydney?) Nice work there by the way impressive work on the armor ,
Just a thought but what colurs and brands of paint are you doing the helmet in ,Id steer clear from squirts ,
If you need a list of avalible colours and brands ill be happy to help, Ive done extensive resurch on spray paints,
being over here we dont have most of the popular paints people use

Also which helmet stlye are you going for , the SE version or classic Jedi helmet seeing you have the Boba maker lid , im
thinking mabey your going SE version

Thanks Jinto. I just got the internet back on at home, so haven't been able to answer you until now.

I'd love a list of available paints if you can spare the time. What I've ended up using wasn't the squirts (except the mandarin). I used Galmet colorbond paints, Cottage green is the darker one and pale eucalypt is the lighter green (which I misted over the top of the final layer of cottage green to get the colour I wanted).

As for the helmet, I haven't really thought about SE, I was just going ROTJ but I'll look more into it before I start painting it up.

Are you coming to 'Geddon this week? I'll bring my armour so you can have a look.

I didn't want to make a mess of my BobaMaker Helmet, so I took to a Hasbro to practice my painting method:

and here's a comparison with an unpainted Hasbro:

I've only done the back of the helmet at this stage but I think it is an improvement. The colours won't perfectly match but I'm ok with it so far.

I have mostly finished spraying my son's Hasbro helmet. I didn't do the beige on the back but will do that on my next effort.

Here is the almost finished product:

And here are the comparison shots, next to an unpainted Hasbro Boba helmet:

Dont use pale euko thats to light use the on=e up from it all , they are colour bond colours so waht ever brand ytou are useing just look at the colour chart and pic the next in line it may not look right to what you think but its alot beter than the pale euko , the colour on the Hasbra is to light so dont use that as the guide ,
What brand paint are you useing ?

I think you're right mate. I had a look before and it doesn't match my armour at all. Still, I'll get the results in the end.

Nice eye on the pale eucalypt, too. Well spotted.

The colours I used and where I bought them are as follows:

Silver base colour: Dulux Quickdry 'Bright Chrome' (Bunnings)
The lighter green: Galmet fence, gutter and facia touch up - Colorbond 'pale eucalypt' (Stratco Hardware)
The darker green: Galmet fence, gutter and facia touch up - Colorbond 'cottage green' (Stratco Hardware)
Grey: the cheapest grey primer I could get my hands on.
Black: Odd Jobs 'Satin Black' (Stratco Hardware)
The darker red: Odd Jobs 'Indian Red' (Stratco Hardware)
The lighter red: (after a mist of white) Squirts 'Cherry Red' (Bunnings)
    Kill stripes: Squirts 'Mandarin' (Bunnings)

    Thanks gents.

I have decided it is time to have a go at my real bucket.

In this pic, I've masked the parts that will remain silver and sprayed the primer grey:

Next, I've masked the parts that will remain grey (I mixed some black paint with the latex so it shows better)

And here, I've sprayed the beige looking colour that is only on the back of the helmet:

    More to follow.

    Thanks.

Here's the light green on the back:

    Some red on the front:

and last bit for tonight is the black upper cheeks:

I've also done the lower cheeks but the whole bucket is pretty much done now exept for the right ear and stencils (including kill stripes). I so much want to pull all the latex off now but it will be better if I wait and do the kill stripes/ ear and stencils first.

Not entirely sure if I'm happy with the colour difference between the green at the back and the green on top. I think the top should be a bit lighter perhaps but I'm Ok with it for now.

    Thanks guys.
@ dynamic: the helmet above isn't the Hasbro. That was a one-off to test my method. The bucket I've just done is a BobaMaker.

I'm not really happy with the green on top and am re-spraying it this morning. I'll post when I'm done.

the dome green is much to dark and the back green is to green it should be more of a blue-green then just green

    Thanks Trav.

F4R is right, the dome green was awfully dark. I've re-done it but Photobucket is down at the moment, so I'll post pics later.

I don't think I'm going to change the back green though. It looks much better against the new lighter dome. In any case, I'm not going 100% SA.

Thanks F4R, too. I saw your comments on BHG as well and am glad others agreed with my assessment so far.

If it screams wrong to you guys after I've done it, please still let me know. I still want it to have the right feel, even if it isn't 100% accurate.

Photobucket still isn't working for me but I've managed to link to my facebook image.

I'm much happier now that I've resprayed the dome and cheeks:

Killstripes and the white bit on the left ear also added.

The damage around the dent has been reduced as well. I think it was a bit over the top before.

Here's the right side of the bucket:

Still got to paint the RF, stalk and ear attachment but the bucket itself is pretty much done now.

Question: Should I now respray my chest armour to match the dome?

This is for the Australians out there. I've had a few people ask me for a list of paints I used so here it is (with pictures):

I've tried to list them approximately in order of application.

(1 Silver base colour: Dulux Quickdry 'Bright Chrome' (Bunnings)
(2 Grey: the cheapest grey primer I could get my hands on.
(3 The darker red: Odd Jobs 'Indian Red' (Stratco Hardware)
(4 The lighter red: (after a mist of white) Squirts 'Cherry Red' (Bunnings)
(5 Black: Odd Jobs 'Satin Black' (Stratco Hardware)
(6 The beige (on the back): Galmet fence, gutter and facia touch up - Colorbond 'Paperbark'
*I used the beige on the right ear as well then sprayed lightly over the top with some cheap gold spray. It is only a mist so shouldn't matter what brand gold you get.
(7 The lighter green: Galmet fence, gutter and facia touch up - Colorbond 'Wilderness' (Stratco Hardware)
(8 The darker green: Galmet fence, gutter and facia touch up - Colorbond 'cottage green' (Stratco Hardware)

(Not in picture) Kill stripes: Squirts 'Mandarin' (Bunnings)

These paints won't necessarily get you the level of screen accuracy that some guys expect but they are what I used.

Here's the new left ear colour. It is Galmet 'Pale Eucalypt'. The closest thing I could get to an olive drab. It's raining today, so the pic is in different light and the colours will not appear the same as before but the rest of the helmet remains unchanged.

Did some more painting yesterday. Here's a stack of my armour together, not including the knees which I also have now.

You may or may not be able to notice that I've also done some weathering on the helmet. Bit of a scorch around the dent.

    Getting there.
