Steve
I have made a few belts.
My pouches are 4" tall finished.
The best reference I came up with was the pouches were 4" x 1-5/8". MP makes the best production Boba belt I've seen. That is one upgrade I hope to eventually make.
Mine are Jango style & I scaled them off of some good reference material.
I can vouch for BKBT.His stuff is dead on BKBT is the 8)daddy of jango "stuff". Sorry, I just had to use the pimp icon

Guess I know who I'm buying MY Jango stuff from in the near future. I was just wondering where I should get an ammo belt and holsters from.
GG
Vince!!!
Kathy looks great!!! Awesome job man, just awesome!!

I just re-measured my MP belt. The pouches are 4 1/2" tall, and 2" wide. The width seems right, but again the height is a little off. It's not enough to warrant unloading it,.....unless a "difinitive" measurement surfacesI do love it for its closeure in the rear matching the original, and the craftsmanship is superb.
Steve
I agree, a 1/2" difference would not be reason enough to sell it. It is a fine looking belt & well worth the $ from the pics I have seen.
Great thread! I'd like to know as well (for Boba).
I've got a fairly decent looking one that I put together for mine, but I think it could be better.
I'm still waiting for Brak's to get me the accurate Boba measurements. I think I'll soon have to take matters into my own hands.![]()
If SithCamero is makin ammo belts im gonna sign up he is tha master of leather.
Vince's stuff is outstanding... but I am in need of a Boba belt as well. I don't do leather. Any direction would be great.
I think I'm first on sith_camaros list (after himself of course) whenever Braks gives him proper measurements. C'mon BB! Snap to it!
I finally sat down and started doing "digital" measurements, from all of the reference photos. Hopefully, I'll be able to make a prototype soon.
When I make the "ultra anal, white vinyl painted brown and then glued shut" version, I'll just put Brak's at the bottom of the list!j/k
Here's how I passed the time today while I was stuck inside
from the big New England blizzard going on:
It's my first attempt at sewing leather. Not as easy as I thought!
I know the measurements aren't exact, but I figure when I finish
this set of pouches & belt I can use it while I start my new "movie
accurate" version. By then I will be more adept at my leather
sewing abilities...I hope!
Ah, gotta love the real belt! Vinyl yes. Leather no!!![]()

Hey Malc, get some Barge rubber cement, it'll never come undone with leather. What is that, hotglue??
Yeah, isn't vinyl just a yucky thought???![]()
I'm not sure if thats true, we'll have to ask him!

Sigh... I guess I have tried to skirt this issue long enough...
Actually some new info has surfaced recently that may help us better estimate the pouch sizes. And just so everyone knows, I do NOT have some secret measurements although I may have a few resources available that will help us out.
Sorry to take forever sith_camero... Just so many things to do and so little time. BTW, I don't think I have ever seen any of Sith Camero's work but I did help MP refine his belt. unfortunately, as with so many, he became tired of reworking things long before I became tired of giving him new things to change...![]()
I was looking at my MP belt last night and to me the pouches look too tall and wide the flaps seem ok(maybe a tad wide) but the pouch bulges out too much thus ruining the proper width.
Ah, there's the man now!If you've got a little more info, then I'll hold off a little longer on my size estimates.
Lee,I too feel as though the MP belt is a little too big.I think he started out with the back pattern being 4",and didn't compensate for when the top flap, and bottom would bring the height to 4 1/2".The width seems about 1/2" too wide also.I'll probably upgrade AGAIN when somebody "nails" the beltFor now it looks good on me since I'm 6'1" the larger belt doesn't really look that big on me.
Steve
I was messing with this a year ago and haven't really pursued it much further. Assuming his belt is 2.5" wide/tall, a 4" high pouch is too tall.
Check this comparison I did using a shot from the MoM next to a rough 4" high cardboard pouch on a 2.5" belt I was goofing with last year:
Remember...I said "rough"
Notice the excess on both top and bottom? Either his belt is closer to 3" wide/tall or the pouches need to be made 3.25"-3.5" high. Which, by the way, is totally bizarre because I was almost positive his ammo pouches were at least 4" tall :p
After going over some pics today with Brak's, I'm pretty sure the vinyl belt is 3". According to Brak's, the Trooper belts are also 3". And my measurements/calculations came out to being 3". And all the measurements I got off the pouches were in the 4" ball park heighth-wise.
After a few tries I am gcoming up with 4.5" being very close to correct on height. As Tyler mentioned, it is the MP belt that is throwing everyone off cause it is 1/2" too small!!!
BTW, Tyler and I are coming up with something in the neighborhood of 1.85" for width.
Cool, I'm relieved to hear that...after messing with those pouches briefly last year and getting frustrated, I just let it sit. It's nice to come back at it with fresh eyes and fresh info from you guys.![]()
Not that I'm trying to make a case for smaller pouch heights...but Jeremy must have big hands.Check these grabs from the buckethead movie. For me to grip my 4" high pouch like that is just about maxing out my range, and I've got 4.5" from my first knuckle on my pointer finger to the "v" where my thumb meets my hand.
Each strand of the girth belt is 5/16" tall. The total height of the girth belt (14 strands) is 4-3/4". There's your scale reference, look at Brak's pic and do the math.
OK,with my MP belt right next to me,and a measuring tape, here's all the pertinent specs.
belt width = 2 3/4"
pouch height = 4 1/2"
pouch width = flap is 2" while total overall is 2 1/4" taking into accordance the wraparound design of the flaps.
If it were even 4" with 1.85" it would be way too skinny I think.Figuring out these measurements are going to drive us all nuts
Steve
Whaddaya mean, "going to".![]()
Si
Finally got into "dabbling" with these tonight. This is just the vertical flap, using BB's 4.5x1.85 figures. The stitching is simulated, since this is only a test run. Although, if I made leather ones, I could do the same thing.....but then the stitch count would probably be off!
Just wait until I make the non-functioning vinyl pouches!
One of the most accurate we've seen yet!!!
Hey now...that seems to match up pretty nicely. Keep us posted![]()
The width on that,at least on my PC screen comparison has the width at 2".When I took the belt width with my dividers, and held that measurement to the ruler you have in the pic.,it comes out to 2".Is that just the pic messing with me,or is it indeed correct?
If that's the case,I'm right on with my pouches,I'll just need a new belt.I'm thinking more, and more that it is a 3" belt from all comparison pics, and now that we're onto something concrete with the pouches to scale from.
Steve
Looks very, very good to me. The stitching looks especially nice.
I'm making my own...5 bucks for a wide brown belt from a second hand clothing shop and about $3.50 for vinyl. Almost finished and I've gotta say it looks a million bucks.
I used some blue packing foam to keep the pouches in shape, that I scrounged from my work....(I think it was used to pack computer monitors)
I'll try and post some pic when it's finished
Sooo... whatever became of this?
Who's making THE "definitive" ROTJ ammo belt/pouches these days?
I'm going to need a new set soon, and would like some input!![]()
My girlfriend made mine... I think it's made out of pvc

Interesting. G3's, huh? They're not accurate enough for my liking, but that's one way to cut down on labor!
Anyone else know who's making the best LEATHER ROTJ belts and pouches out there?
I've already got 1 leather belt w/ Vinyl pouches, and 1 Vinyl belt with Vinyl pouches. Neither are accurate (or durable enough) for my liking (and considering I wear my costume about 20 times a year, for up to 12 hours at a time. I know the original was Vinyl, but it didn't *have* to be durable. Mine does. Gotta be leather!
Shoot me a PM if you'd rather keep it off the board.
Is Toby still making leather ones?

$9.00 is cheap for 10. Somehow I think they would cost more shipped to the U.S.
Anyway, glad you like them!
My quest continues...![]()
an incredibly talented little propmaker named "ME" is making mine.
Probably cost me about 8 bucks, all up
http://photos.yahoo.com/darthbish
I made mine from soft leather I found in the scrap leather pile at a tack supply shop, plenty of them in kentucky lol. I cut them out per TK-409's templetes and cut them just a quarter inch bigger so I could sew them together. I'm not done but my fingers are. and i only made 6. Its not like the rest of my costume is dead on accurate anyway.
I've got one of Toby's leather ROTJ belts and I love it. Its durable and accurate enough for my liking.
Bob, can you post a few pics, either of the belt or of your suit with the belt on?

Well, I don't have a close up picture of the belt but you can get a pretty decent view of it if you go to the following link. I don't want to put it directly into this thread because its a huge picture.

Hope this helps until I can take a better picture.
