What glue do you use???

Hi everyone, I'm sure these topics have been discussed a few times over, but I can't seem to find the right info.

I bought a sheet of 3 mm white Sintra at a surplus shop (PVC sign board as they labeled it). The guy behind the counter called it "Plexiglas" :confused(I don't know where that came from, I know what Sintra looks like).

Anyway the Sintra has a slight pitted texture in it - - I tried and this texture can be lightly sanded out (or should I leave it?). I plan to use this material for the chest, shoulders, back, rear and cod plates using the WOF templates.

I've been using styrene for my jet pack, so I tested some plastic cement on the Sintra. It didn't hold.

My question is what kind of glue does everyone use to secure the pieces of plastic that will hold the "snaps" to the back of the Sintra armor? I was thinking PVC plumping glue.

Also can Sintra be used to make sturdy WOF knee armor - - What glue (if any) will securely hold the three major "knee cap" pieces together.

I hope someone out there can give me a little advice.

Use CA (superglue). or JB plastic weld. It actually melts the plastic to form the bond. Just be careful, remember it melts the plastic to form the bond.... too much and it can warp. too little and it can break free.

If you use CA, get a medium viscosity. Fast is well... too fast. Medium is just about perfect.

I concur. Superglue is the way to go. Sintra is actually not PVC, therefore PVC plumbing adhesive will not work. It only creates a light bond and holds no weight at all.
I suffered with this problem for a long time.
JB weld is your second option, but believe it or not, superglue holds on tighter.

Sintra is an expanded foam, the textured surface can be easily sanded off. Start with a medium grit 100 and work your way up to 200 grit. I use Plastic Weld to glue it together.

"Plexiglas" is a german brand. It´s PMMA or acrylic glass and it´s difficult to glue it.

As suspect86 said, Sintra isn´t PVC - it´s polystyrene and you can use superglue or plastic weld.

I'm sure I have some superglue kicking around. I'll give it a try this weekend.

I use extra thick CA (super glue) and spray catalyst. You can find it at hobby shops etc. But know this up front, when you use super glue, and any kind of accelerator (spray thats thin) it creates a LOT of heat. And if you have glue on your hand and spray it, it is going to get REALLY REALLY hot REALLY REALLY fast.

But ca glue and accelerator is one of those amazing joys in life. Until you have used it, you cant even appreciate it.

make sure you have a bottle, not the little stick that have push in dispenser... The little bottles from the hobby shop with the kicker is the best stuff.

The stick with the push in dispenser never gives the right flow of glue to make a good strong bond. Sure it's great for little stuff, but when you have a large seam, it's just not going to work.

Always have a bottle of loctite glue remover handy, incase glue sticks your fingers together.

I love Gorilla Glue for a lot of different purposes.

It also foams up slightly and expands, and dries rock hard and sticks to anything. Good stuff.
