Voice Amp Question

Okay TDH, so I got this voice amplifier based on TK409's recomendation around Christmas time of last year when I was first getting started on my Fett.

Since that time I've finally finished my scratchbuilt flightsuit and I was always intending to slip the mic speaker into the front thigh pouch. Anyway, I got it to fit and it functions just fine but the speaker shape isn't exactly formed to the rectangular styled pocket. What do you guys think? Is it so apparent that I need to make changes or would it be ok to leave it?

I thought about trimming it down maybe or just making my own housing but I have no experience with electronics and I'd probably just break it. I took it apart for a look-see and there's really not much unused plastic to shed anyway. The design takes up most all of the housing:facepalm.

Anyway, I've spent about forty bucks on this thing and I'm not really considering getting another and the flighsuit is done and sewn on very securely so I don't want to alter my pocket :p. It also has a waist strap for it's intended method of wear and I've seen harneses for TK's under the chest plate that worked out nice but there's not really any room on the Fett to hide such a bulky speaker. Sigh, what to do?

A Fett could keep anything in his/her pockets, tools or otherwise, so I don't think it should be a problem keeping it in the pocket. Personally I think it looks fine shape-wise. The only thing I've been wondering about is how do people react when someone talks and their voice comes from their thigh..or can you really not tell where its coming from?

I Keep mine in my side pouch. I run the wire down my neck seal, under my vest and under the pouch loop and goes in the back. Can't really see it since it's on the same side as the wookiee braids. I found my amp through tk409 too, although I went the hisonic route.

Glad to hear you guys think it looks good. That's my favorite route to fix things, do nothing! :D Now to worry about everything else... :)

There is a 501stmember that sells AKER amps...much smaller,( 3.75” x 2.81” x 1.08” ) and a lot louder. The best amp you can get for trooping in my opinion...when talking in terms of a basic amp with no effects. Although you can run many different effects boards through it as well. if your a member check out the main 501st boards.if not,i believe he sells them on e-bay. Just type " Loud Portable Voice Amplifier 10watt Aker MR1506 Black"

Thank you for the referral Lou. There is an aker sales thread here on the TDH
http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/show...-Powerful-Voice-Amplifier-Speaker-(10w-or12w)
Here is a link to the PTT http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php/35890-FS-Push-To-Talk-(PTT)-Cables-for-Aker-Voice-Amps

I have sold an aker amp to TK409 and he is supposed to be updating his website to recommend the aker amps. He uses an aker now in C-3PO. When i first got started i bought a newton amp based on his website. I hacked it up to fit it into my armor. It lasted one troop before it died. That is what started my search for a better voice amplifier solution. The rest is history. I also sell on Amazon.com. The legion gets the low prices though. I need to keep up the sales volume to keep the volume discount which in turns allows me to keep prices low to the legion. :)

As my customers know, there is no comparison between the aker amps and other amps. They are that good. I also keep them in stock all of the time and can usually have them on your doorstep within three days of payment.

Best Regards,

I can vouch for Jim and the Aker amps. Best thing for trooping I have ever used. It's clear, loud, incredible sounding and definitely helps in adding to the whole role of whatever character, Fett, trooper, whatever you're playing.
Hope this helps, and good luck!!

J
