What about the jumpsuit? Is it the same in every movie?

Yep Brian, it looked like pleather to me, too, especially in the Chronicles pictures, but Braksbuddy has some pictures that make me think it was definately a synthetic fabric. I currently have a synthetic fabric that is stapled to my back deck (I'm trying to sun-fade it, so if anyone has any better way of fading synthetics, let me know) but right now my stuff is a tad too dark for the vest.

Regarding the rest of the suit, Bulloch confirmed that is was a cotton-based denim-type material, but there are many versions of the jumpsuit out there.

I think the fabric might be a chintz fabric, I have made this before from that fabric and it looks quite good. If you don't know, chintz is a cotton-like fabric with a "shiny" finish, you see pillows made from this material, and it is available at most fabric shops

Send it on... I am totally convinced that I will not use the fabric I bought. It is nice and it is close, but it wrinkles too much for me, and I can't get it faded light enough for my tastes. I will try a few more techniques to lighten it up, and then I will offer it to sell to anyone who wants it.

the chintz fabric is synthetic, if memory serves, so it won't bleach or take dye very well, but the upside is that it is available in MANY colors. Just a heads up...

Hello, I don't know If this will help but I am from Chicago and all police must wear a bullet proof vest. The vest they wear is blue to match their shirt, but the most notable thing is that it has the same "shiny" look and color as the Fett vest. Now I know these vest are mucho denaro but perhaps it could lead you to the type of fabric it is made of.

Actually, the Chicago cop vests have just big pieces of elastic on the sides, joining the front and the back...so that wouldn't work, unless you got the fabric used to make them.

I bought a fabric called Dutchess Satin - Platinum, from Joann Fabrics. It's very close to Fett's vest, and it has a little sheen or shine to it too. If you get a chance, go find it and see it for yourself. I like to here what you all think.

I also got a good vest fabric from Joann Fabrics. I will post pics when I finish the vest. It is not as tan and has a little hint of grey, and it's shiny.

I'm pretty sure Chintz is 100% cotton. It is polished, that's why it looks shiny.

You can use regular light gray satin, but use it wrong side out.

Are you people talking about using Chintz for the jumpsuit or the vest?? Also, does anyone know if there is a coloration difference between ESB and ROTJ? (I know it was already asked, I just don't want everyone to overlook the question) I've had an incredably hard time finding decent pics of the jumpsuit in ESB. From what I've seen, it is a lot more gray than the ROTJ which is closer to a teal color.
BTW, thanks for the help thus far....

They are talking about using Chintz for the vest I believe. The answer to your second question is yes. The jumpsuits are different colors in ESB and ROTJ. ESB is a blueish-gray color, whereas the ROTJ is more of a Khaki color. Hope this helps a little.

Give satin a try. The back side is typically a duller finish than the front, so you can turn it inside out to give the vest a light matte metallic look. I am considering using a platinum colored satin and padding it with batting.

I am sure there are other options too, I hope we hear some of them in this forum.

Unfortunately, at this time Max is right. We really haven't nailed the material. It is QUITE ellusive. However, the inside of satin looks fairly nice. I am working on this (among about a million other things) and hope to have something solide withoin the next few months.
