Underarmor

New Hunter
Sorry if this isn't in the right forum section, but I have a quick question (possibly for my future set of armor); do any of you happen to know if underarmor brand clothing dyes? I am looking for a specific color that they don't have, and my only chance to get it is if I dye it myself, but I have a sneaking suspision that it won't work on that type of material. Anyone know? Thanks.

What color are you looking for? I think it is possible to dye it, but it might dye uneven and it could bleed onto your skin.

I'm looking for kind of a murky grey-ish purple. I'm a girl, by the way, which means less of a selection of underarmor choices, unfortunatly, ha. I'm not in the market yet, I still have to wait a year or two for the metal-working part of the project to become available for me to make, but I'm just planning ahead. Thanks for replying so quickly, by the way.

Well, Eastbay makes compression fit clothing in a variety of colors. So you can go with an off-brand for a lot cheaper price. Plus, there's no reason you have to wear women's underarmor.

Galactic Bounty Hunter : Either that was random, or I'm dumb and must be missing some joke here, ha.

Foxbatkllr: Eastbay, eh? I'll look into it, thanks; no reason to pay more for brand name, ha. I kinda do need a women's line though; I'm 16, and mighty short, pretty slight too, so I need small sizes.

Mandomemory, first off WELCOME to TDH! :cheers

This will explain Galactic's reference.

I agree that about any type of compression clothing, or snug fitting clothing would probably work. As a general rule, synthetics don't dye nearly as well as natural fabrics like cotton, wool and silk. I'm not sure if this would suit your needs, but you may want to consider cuddlduds or something similar.

Whether or not it is dyeable depends on the fabric. The Coolmax will not take a dye. The silkwear is 100% silk and can be dyed. There is also some 100% cotton that would dye easily. I'm pretty sure this stuff is less expensive than Under Armour.
It's good to see more women getting into this hobby (y) and if you are doing a custom Mandalorian, you have A LOT of creative license. The best guidelines would be your custom Mando should look like she just stepped out of a Star Wars film. Browse the custom sections for ideas. A lot of them are awesome! Just post a concept drawing or something and get some feedback on it.

Southern Hunter: Aw, thanks for such a warm welcome! I'm proud to be adding another female to this culture! I've considered myself Mando for quite a while now, and I'm a long time lurker at this forum :) I love the customs here; they're all so creative. I've been planning to make my own set of beskar'gam, but I've always wanted it to be out of real metal, so I've had to wait. Hopefully next year my close friend will be taking his metals class, and he'll be able to help me construct it finally :D Thanks for all the info; I'll look into it!

whistle8mp: Interesting. The material used in that tutorial, did it have any sort of plastics in it? And what that implies is that it may be able to dye nylons and spandex and such, like in compression clothing and underarmor, correct?

That girth was mohair but If I were you I would buy a t shirt and test it out. Its worth the money you will spend on it. I've never teied it on that kind of fabric but I'm pretty sure it will work. Let me know how it goes because I'm very curious. ~Mike

Alright, thanks. I might not get to it for a while, but I'll let you know when I do.
