Transporting your costume

I plan on taking my Fett with me to Florida. I will need to fly. I was wondering if anyone ha any experience with security and some of the metal parts being in the costume (rocket, darts etc).

I do not want to ship it out prior and I plan to bring the helmet as a carry on in a helmet bag.

If you do a Stanley or Husky crate, typically it's going to be $50-75 to check it. No worries about the metal bits. Wrap the breakable parts like the gauntlets and missle in bubblewrap.

I'm not taking the Jetpack. I thought I would put the boots, flightsuit, cape, and belt in the regular luggage checked in.

Then put the flak and gauntlets in a carry on and keep those with me. I was worried when it goes thru the scanner and they see the rocket and electronics etc if they would freak out.

I've been as concerned about everything arriving in one piece as I am about security, but both are a concern.
I'd be interested to hear other people's experience with this. If the next Celebration is in Florida, driving isn't really an option and I'd like to bring my Fett.

I would bubble wrap and check-in the gauntlets. Get a hard-sided suitcase to help protect it better - saw some at Marshall's for like $50.

The electronics won't bother them, I take my camera gear and tons of lenses and cables and such on board with no issues. The sharp points on the darts and rocket will probably get you inspected.

Be a touch cautious about the hard shell suitcases. I know someone who works as a baggage handler and he said he's never get one. If they fail, they fail spectacularly as they can can only bend so far before they break.

The husky case is the way almost everyone in my garrison troops. I made a custom box with padding in to put my helmet into, it fits conveniently under the tray (which carries all the odds and ends). Everything else is very easy to pack...I use long sheets of bubble wrap layered for the jetpack, gauntlets, and rocket thruster. With a husky tote packed smartly you would have no issues transporting everything via plane down there. Another perk for the Husky tote is it has a convenient key which allows you to lock the crate when away...nice at events where you only have limited security.

Yup - I used thick beach towels instead of bubble wrap. But I'd def use bubble wrap on the parts with breakable resin bits.

I think my biggest fear is going to luggage and not seeing it come around the belt (I've had the airport lose my luggage before).

That's why I was considering finding a way to carry on the helmet and armor parts.

Well, you could check in a real gun (even a flare gun) or real ammo with your baggage and declare it. They won't lose that one, AND they'll allow you to lock your bag with a non-TSA lock after they inspect it. This is a strategy many photographers use when transporting equipment: pack a pistol along with your expensive camera gear. No more grabby hands.

In fact, looks like if you took your EE3, you'd have to do that...
