Rubies Supreme Edition Boba Fett Costume (Modifications?)

Haha! Thanks Rubio.

Your mods to the Rubies are quite tasteful and well-executed. Thanks for sharing the pics, it looks like you had a blast.

...and my goodness, you're a big cat. Fett is intimidating. YOU as Fett is downright terrifying! Like an NFL linebacker in armor with a gun! Watch out!

So im considering buying this costume for $599 with the intent on adding much TLC. Metal247, i love that you kept a positive attitude with your rebuild and i intend to keep the same attitude when rebuilding my own. I have read so much on here about this costume and have very low expectations on the quality when it arrives but as i said i intend to put much TLC in the re-build seeing as that is half of the fun as a cosplayer is making your costume your own. i dont really intend on making my Fett a "Movie Standard" just something that will stand out in my future conventions. I have the opportunity to meet Jeremy Bulloch and Daniel Logan in April at the Salt Lake City Fanx and hope to have everything ready by then. By the SLC Comic Con in September i hope to have it looking like a true Fett! any suggestions from anyone would really help!

To give you my honest opinion buying the costume at $599 is just too high. I fortunately got this on sale for $425 and when I go down the list of what Rubies parts I'm still using it gave me a little perspective of what money I "saved" had I bought the parts separately, depending on your viewpoint.

helmet (repainted & added darker visor via commission by Fett4Real), jumpsuit (added zipper to make it more "functional"), shoulder bells & knee armor (both repainted by Fett4Real), gauntlets, jetpack, Wookie braids (which I extended), shin armor, pouches (removed from the Rubies vest) and cape.

This thread will give you an idea of approximately what you might spend on replacing parts:

Do as much research as you can and I hope this thread helps you make the decision either way. But I have to warn you that no matter what expectations you have they still probably won't be low enough when you open the box. Had I found TDH before I bought it, I wouldn't have purchased it, so you're in a different situation with the opportunity to start from scratch. The 6th post on this thread from Carbonfreeze really hits home for me after my build has gotten to this point and I'm already in the early stages of replacing the gauntlets.

599 is WAY to much they should pay YOU to take it. If its for halloween MAYBE and resell it but really a waste if you want to go further then that...or just throw around money

Have to agree with F4R here. You could play your cards right, buy some good products used except the FS and probably come out with a decent costume for around $1500. I know it sounds like a lot, but if you stretch it out over 1-2 years you will look back and thank yourself for not getting the Rubies. Just my 2 cents.

What these guys said ^^
Don't do it brother, you'll regret it....It's WAY more trouble, time, money, hassle and headaches to go that route rather than just buy the good stuff right off the bat here from reputable vendors.

Thanks a bunch guys, i have decided against it and im going to go through this website to get a costume made, i have the funds for about $1500 and would like to keep it around there but like they say your fett is truly never done i may end up adding more and spending close to $2000 haha. Another question i have is would i be able to have this costume ready by April 17th?

Of 2015, probably so. This is just one of those things you typically can't rush. You'll see some parts you can get quick, but there's so much strategizing. Main thing on this is to have fun, get to know some about the costume, and have patience. You will undoubtedly meet several awesome people on your journey as well. That ones just a freebie!

I agree as well andafter much lurking lol years now I want to get back in as well

do you guys think that doing a custom mando first would be a good way to start?

A custom mando and boba fett are two different things all together. One is very specific while the other has unlimited possibilities. It really is your own choice.

If you were scratch building everything, and you are relatively new to costuming, a custom mando might be a good idea so you learn from your mistakes for boba fett. If you are just buying the pieces, you might as well go for fett :)

thank you, ya you are definitely correct. My thoughts were that I could learn the weathering techniques and I am very nervous about painting and other aspects.

If you take your time with this you'll look back and Thank the maker we stopped you from buying anything that came from rubies.

One of the main goals I had when starting this thread was to prevent people from buying the Rubies atrocity. If we’ve only helped one person along the way I call it a victory. Good luck on your build and have fun. It can be a stressful process but you’ve eliminated a large portion of it by choosing to start from scratch.

Well thank you my brothers! I am very excited about my build and cant wait to start getting my parts. i know everyone on here is great for questions so i figure any troubles i may have along the way i now have a sanctuary to come to! glad i found TDH!

No disrespect intended here. But not everyone can afford to drop over $2000 on a costume. These can be found new on Ebay for around $400. With a lil time & a few bucks towards sandpaper & spray paint. I think it can be made into the casual Star Wars fans dream costume. :)

What has been made pointedly clear is that the costume is not only highly inaccurate, but it also self-destructs after minimal use. Noone here is saying you have to spend 2k to make a quality fett costume. You can scratch build a fett outfit for about what it costs to buy a Rubies outfit. The difference is you need to know how to MAKE those parts and do the work. That takes a specific set of skills...the same set of skills you will need to ALSO redo large portions of the Rubies outfit. What many posters here have repeatedly said is that its far cheaper and better to make the items yourself versus reworking the Rubies outfit.
