Storage question

I don't have any crafting skills or a huge lump sum of funds so it will take me a long while to collect everything needed for a full Fett.

I was wondering what you think the best storage options are for the pieces as I collect them? I'd like to keep everything in the best condition possible. I'm not sure how careful I truly need to be with some parts. For example, could I keep soft parts in a durable waterproof container and not worry about it or would there possibly be problems with, idk, wrinkles or worse? I really have no clue what the best storage options would be.

Thanks!

I've seen some people just use totes (waterproof and great for moving). That's what I'm going to do as I'm building. Just take them out, paint, dry and then display. In my case I won't be using a mannequin, so I will have to find a place for them even when they are done.

I won't be able to have a mannequin either. I just want to have the best protection for the pieces I can while collecting everything.

I am more concerned about storage of the costume while travelling - in particular on a plane. In a car, it's not so bad because I have lots of space.

I saw a thread about people using Stanley Mobile Chests to travel with their gear, but am unsure if this chest will still protect the gear when travelling on a plane. I've known people that were 'baggage chuckers' and they don't read the word 'fragile' all too well.

I assume with enough foam everything would be safe? (sorry to hi-jack, but I assume you would be interested as well).

There really isnt anything breakable in the suit...I mean some parts of the ESB gaunts are semi fragile but really its all very flexible and safe...the JP and helmet would be MY main concerns....Helmet hand carry simple...get a helmet bag...Im trying to find the REALLY padded one a buddy of mine used for his Helmet (military helo helmet) my bag has very little padding he has a newer version. They look legit! Gonna ask him for a Part number somedaty when I remember to ask him about it.

The JP is tough for the most part you just pad it like anything and itll be fine though...being FGRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) its fragile to a point...Ive dropped a JP from 3 foot and had a tiny crack in it afterwards and the missile shattered because of a defect in casting....but had that defect not been there it would have mearly broken at a seam like the thruster which was a supeglue fix (5 min) as long as you wrap you stuff in foam or bubble wrap its all safe...a pelican or similar case would be best to travel with. We (military) ship all sorts of electronics weapons etc in them and they protect the items very well...they pricey but you do get what you pay for. Older ones made by another company are the way to go i think...little easier to find at surplus stores too...made by HARDIG

Thanks F4R,

I have no idea how fragile these items are...and didn't really feel like testing my theories :)

Good to know that with enough foam, everything should be fine. It would be good to know where you get your helmet bag from when you get it!

This is the helmet bag you seek. NSN: 8415-01-395-0005 ($253.85, helmet bag woodland ) - ArmyProperty.com Got one sitting right here that I transport my TK or X-wing helmet in. Nice and thick, the empty bag alone weighs about 3 pounds.

You see a lot of places selling "mil-spec helicopter helmet bags" in ACU, OD green or the old desert pattern for about $30-50. Those are junk. I've only ever seen the nice thick heavy ones in a woodland pattern. They might make them in other patterns, I've just never seen them.

You got me, I don't really know what I was thinking about wrinkles. That's pretty stupid. I guess I was thinking about permanent lines forming in the cape or something after sitting in storage too long. I have no idea. Stupid moment.

Glad to hear there's not much to worry about with storage overall.

I hope it's all not too fragile, otherwise my stuff won't even make it over to me in the UK!

Well I used to take my TK armour in a suitcase with the lid in a motorcycle helmet bag, which had a mock fur lining. Ok for travelling in a boot of a car but I wouldn't trust it in aaircraft baggage. My Fett will be again be moved in a suitcase with the soft parts inside to help protect the GRP bits. The JP is another story, depends on how much it breaks down I guess.

Yeh I was issued two of the other ones...just never seen the others at supply....which leads me to believe tax payers DONT pay for them because theyre to pricey...and the guy who I know that has one bought it himself....I'll take a look on ebay...would like to have it for my many helmets to transport. Might look at a hard case option really for planes...people like to stuff their luggage and you cant have things in your lap
