    Hello, everyone.

I understand the variations available to a Fett costumer, and I'm learning more and more all the time about costume building, etc. However, perhaps you can answer one question that isn't so easy.

As a first time Fett costumer (not necessarily a first time costumer), which of the Fett variants would you recommend starting with in terms of availability, difficulty of build, etc? For example, is it easier to source, say, Special Edition parts than it is ESB parts, etc? I'm thinking ROTJ, but would value any and all input.

The screen versions are more easily aquired IMO then say a prepro as the parts are produced by members here. The Pre-pro has parts that arent made but could be made, or whatever urself. Its really about what you like.

I am just starting to get my parts together, some of the guys on here have been collecting for years and still don't have everything.

In my limited experience there is no easy Fett, they will all take a lot of searching and work to get all of the parts together.

I picked the one from the film which I liked best so went for ESB, from what people on here say it may have a slightly easier paint job, but seems harder to find the blasters and holster for.

I've been going for SE (Special Edition). Which is 'basically' an ESB helmet (which I prefer) with ROTJ armour which I've been finding a little easier to put together.

    Hi,
I'm building an ESB Fett. There is talented builders (fettpride, bobamaker, bbf, sidewinder...) who have build most of the parts of the costume whith great accuracy.
For paintings , RafalFett had made wonderful stencils and you can find painting tutorials like TerminalFettler or Jayvee's ones.
And by top everything one of the things which most struck me when I began to frequent this board, it is the spirit of good-companionship that reigns. There is a great deal of nice guys who are ready to help you and to encourage in your project. You are in good hands.
I agree with you for the helmet, IMHO the ESB'one is far most beautiful than the ROTJ's one. For the rest of the costume, it's above all a choice of colors.

Depends on time and money and how accurate do you want it, Ive been collecting parts for a PP2 fett for 3 years an still have a way to go, but I dont have 1000s to out lay straight away, an i want it to be as accurate as possible,
but the easyeist bet would be the common ones ROTJ or ESB , or ROTJ SE,

If you want to go screen accurate on a fett there is no cheap or easy way really. If I would have to pick easiest I would say ROTJ, reason being you dont have to pay for an extra side arm that you would with the ESB, and you dont need a difficult ESB helmet if you went with a ROTJ SE ( although the ROTJ helmet is also deceivingly difficult to paint). To be fair the time it takes to purchase each part and for it to arrive, money isnt really a big factor if you dont order it all at once and if you add it all up at the end and have a heart attack. Just go with the style you like best and think is the coolest (cough special edition cough cough)

Id have to disacgree with one part of that, welsh, the ROTJ helmet is much more chalenge than the ESB helmet, to do it properly there is so much layering and dusting , as aposed to layer over layer, of the ESB,

Oh and the PP2 is the best,

Tbh I've never painted a rotj lid so was just assuming, Ive got to do one sooner or later. But like I said I new they were deceivingly difficult just didn't no how difficult. But over all i would still say empire/pp2 are the hardest/expensive to do, with the rotj style suits being the cheapest option, but not by much. Your new helmet sculpt is looking fantastic by the way.

In the long run, it's based on personal preference.
My favorite is the Special Edition Fett.

Thank you all for your input. It seems like the Special Edition Fett would be the way I'd want to go, personally. I would be building to 501st standard and then, over time, upgrading from there.

At the moment, the frustration is not the cost, it's the actual locating of the many parts needed. Can't find capes, for example, nor girth belts, etc. Can find the armor, and in fact it seems the soft parts are the harder items to source, at least for me personally. It's also difficult to get a sense of time frame. As with many 501st/RL costumes, there seems to be a huge difference between one manufacturer and the next as regards how long it takes from order to delivery of the items in question. Two weeks, eight months, etc. Money isn't the issue, but justifying the investment for a costume I may not be able to begin work on for a year -is-. Hope that makes sense, thought it would be best to be honest!

Capes and Girth Belts are available through Woodman on this forum. Just use the advanced search function to find his for sale threads. You can search keywords as well as exact user names.

I know LadySewForUs makes flak vests, flightsuits, spats, neckseals, and capes too. So does Bobamaker. Man of War makes Flak vests and flighsuits that I know of. I think Batninja still makes vests and neckseals too. BooBoo Fett makes a killer ammo belt. Saint Nasty makes gloves.

    That help?

Dont forget to search the known items also, like the cape for instance was made from an old army shelter half you can find at almost any Army Navy surplus store or online (just made mine actually). As for suppliers, as Apolifka mentioned, there are more than a few choices for you needs for both armor items (i.e. jetpack and gauntlets or chest plates) and soft items as well. I think its the soft items that take the most time, especially if you have them tailored specifically to you, while other suppliers make them in general s,m,L, sizes and have them on hand ready to ship. Shop around a little, there's no one stop shop for everything. And enjoy the journey!!
