I've looked into those but they seem like they would be too big to fit in the pack. They also would need to run off some kind of battery as well. I will look into that alternative further. Thanks for the suggestion....anyone else have any ideas???

When they are turned upside down, it comes out looking like steam or fog.
Get one of those 'electronic cleaning' cans of compressed air, and squeeze it when it's upside down. It does the exact same thing. It would have been hooked up to some sort of solenoid valve, so they could be turned on using a switch. The only problem I've had so in trying this is finding a solenoid. Mind you, I haven't looked much recently, but I'm sure there is something out there.

This v1.0 set up is very preliminary. Basically I wanted to see if I could get everything to work, and get the "discharge" to look like thruster smoke. I guess you approve. :)

The first picture shows the setup. A Propel can connected with an air brush hose to the solenoid valve. Coming out the other end of the solenoid is just a barbed hose fitting. Additional piping, hoses and fittings will be needed to route the the two thrusters. (More on that later.)

Electrically, the solenoid is wired to a 6V rechargable RC battery and a momentary toggle switch. My plan is to install the battery in the JP and wire the switch into my right gauntlet.

CAUTION!!! This set up is unstable. The blue regulator on the top of the Propel can leaks butane fluid when held upside down. It is just not made to handle the liquid that is inside the can, and it is the liquid that is needed to create the smoke. I am working on some changes to my design, which should eliminate the leaking problem, but I have to wait about a month to get the parts I need.

That does sound like a good idea. I actually went home last night and gave it a try and you're right, it does produce a steam or fog. It wasn't a huge amount but I think we are on to something. Thanks for the tip, Jango_Fett_Jr. What else has anyone done to make their jet pack "come alive?"

I put this diagram together to show the piping and wiring for my v1.0 thruster. I had to resize my Visio drawing to fit the image restrictions, so I hope this works.

Its actually not that complicated, it even very similar to how the original was done, except the battery was freaking HUGE. This is about as close as you'll be able to get to the actual effect, and its much safer/lighter. Although as mentioned, there are a few issues with the leaking butane that will need to be fixed before it is implemented.

The Airbrush parts, various brass fittings, battery, wires & switch, should be available anywhere, and at minimal cost. As mandalore697 pointed out, the solenoid valve is kinda costly. Depending on the type of valve you get, they can range from $50 to $200. I have been able to "borrow" some parts from work to put my v1.0 set up together, so my out of pocket costs have been low.

As I said before, there are some issues with this version that are not safe, and need to be corrected. Once I have the new parts, I will set up a v2.0 and test the operation. After I get an operational & safe system, I will work on getting it installed in my JP. When I get all of that finished I will put together a parts list for anyone that is interested. I may even have a few kits available. ;)

It's more than a puff of smoke. Actually, it’s more of a continuous blast of smoke. During my testing, I have probably discharged the system 15 to 20 times for 5 to 10 second intervals, and the can is still half full.
