slave1pilot paints a set of ROTJ gauntlets

Since I have already done a Jet Pack paintjob thread,
http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/showthread.php?t=20013
I thought I'd do a Gauntlet paintjob thread.
i will keep you updated as I progress with the painting.
I will list what paints I use & how I do what I do (just like the Jet Pack thread)
The gauntlets I have for painting are Man Of War (new version)
This is a commission job for a member here (I'll let him say who he is)

Since this is not a review thread,I'll try not to give my opinion on the gauntlets themselves
but I will post a few facts about them;

They come already assembled with hinges & velcro
They have the Dental Expander (not a cast of a real one) and the buttons on the flamethrower molded in.
The flamethrower is enclosed , so adding real buttons might not be possible
The flamethrower also has the tips molded in & attached
The switch on the right side of the left gauntlet is also molded in
The right gauntlet has indentations for where the darts and small switches should go
The hose connections are not metal , but are attached to the right gauntlet
The Missile feels hollow & is somewhat oblong and is removable
The Missile is secured using a plastic bolt & nut
The calculator pad comes with the set & appears to be a cast of the real deal

Ok, on to the pics (this is exactly how they come , straight out of the box)

All right!!! This is the moment I've been waiting for! These are mine. And I knew I'd chosen the right guy to do the paintjob, but how about that great "forensic analysis". I'm no expert on the details, but I'm hoping all of this adds up to being some pretty realistic casting. I'm new to TDH, but it looks like MoW does great work. Thanks to S1P for accepting this job and doing this thread so I can "watch" the Master at work.

Cool! I love progress threads. . . especially ones that aren't mine!
Those gauntlets look great, and seeing some of S1P's previous work, these should be phenomenal when they're done! (y)
I've been considering "upgrading" my gauntlets (sometime) and these look pretty amazing.

Hey..How do I get in on this :D

You could send me a pair of gauntlets in exchange for a paintjob.

I sprayed the Krylon "Dull Aluminum" 2 days ago
and added a coat of Krylon "Crystal Clear" Gloss today ( to seal the silver)
I'll let it dry today & start using Liquid Mask on the scratches tomorrow.

After letting everything dry thoroughly, I sprayed "Wisconsin Central maroon" on the left gauntlet & added scratches. I'll start the right gauntlet soon

Sorry for the lack of updates.
My computer died & I had no reference pics to paint from
I have my computer back up (reformatted hard drive)
and will be back at this very soon.
thanx for the patience & support.

somehow i missed this long ago...

on mine, i cut a small square out of the inside of the flamethrower to get access to put real push buttons in. maybe a 1.5" x 1" hole at most. it was awkward screwing them in properly, but it worked.

I'm absolutely amazed. And, very proud to call these my own. I can't imagine having a more accurate set of gauntlets. Thanks to S1P for his talent and dedication to this board and for the detailed progress thread. It's been fun to watch.

Yeah, but guys....remember...it's never "just another one" when that JP is YOURS. And this one is mine. And it's going to be an original "Slave1Pilot" work of art. No one can downplay that. It's a thing of beauty (so much so that my 11 and 6 yr old think S1P's JPs really work!!! -- I've had to talk them down from that expectation by explaining that they just LOOK that good!)
