slave1pilot paints a set of ESB Armor

Since I have already done a Jet Pack paintjob thread,
Return of the Jedi Jet Pack Paintjob
and am Currently doing a Guantlet paintjob thread
Return of the Jedi Gauntlets Paintjob
I thought I'd go a head and do an Armor paintjob thread.
i will keep you updated as I progress with the painting.
I will list what paints I use & how I do what I do (just like the Jet Pack and gauntlet threads)
The armor I have for painting is MLC (newest version I believe)
This is a commission job for a member here (I'll let him say who he is)

Since this is not a review thread,I'll try not to give my opinion on the Armor itself
    But i will post a few facts about it;
    The armour is fiberglass
The chestlight slots have already been marked out
The shoulder studs are molded in, except the one on the far left.
The far left shoulder stud isn't molded in so you can attach the cape.
The backplate does not have slots cut for your harness
The backplate does come with the pieces that go over the slots (see pics)

I have already done the shoulders & knees for this member, so I'll only be doing the "green " parts
Ok, on to the pics (this is exactly how they come , straight out of the box)

    -Edit -Updated bad URLs

That's not Fettpride armor. His looks way different in all the parts shown.

Since this is my first attempt at ESB, any comments & suggestions would be very welcome.
Furthermore, Reference pics would be even more appreciated.

Sorry for the lack of updates.
My computer died & I had no reference pics to paint from
I have my computer back up (reformatted hard drive)
and will be back at this very soon.
thanx for the patience & support.

Re: slave1pilot paints a set of ESB Armor

    small update;
The armour has been painted silver (mostly, ran out of "Dull Aluminum")
I cut the slots out for the chest lights & the straps on the backplate
The covers for the straps have also been attached to the backplate.

Re: slave1pilot paints a set of ESB Armor

    I started with the backplate
Since reference pics are hard to come by (to say the least)
I have to "wing it" on most of the damage
In the following pics, I'll show the progress
the first few pics show the silver
and the application of the masking fluid to the major scratch areas
Be sure to make the edges of the mask look sharp, so it doesn't look blobbed on
Then the next pics show the airbrushing with "PollyScale" US MED GREEN
I don't know if that is the correct color (much debated) but I like it

    After the paint dries
I start removing the masking fluid
Using an X-acto Knife & a pair of tweezers,
    lift off the masking fluid
I also add small scrathes & nicks with the X-acto knife

Re: slave1pilot paints a set of ESB Armor

I outlined the silver with Testor's Zinc Chromate
be sure to add random spots of the Zinc Chromate to pull it together
I will add a mist of Black & maybe a wash

Re: slave1pilot paints a set of ESB Armor

    Back at it again today
    Same drill as before,
    paint it silver
mask off the spots you want to stay silver with masking fluid
Paint the whole thing with US MED GREEN
(I also did a few areas with a darker mix of "Pullman Green & Brunswick Green" to try & replicate the color variations)

    & You should get something like this;

Finished the rest of the Zinc Chromate around the scratches.
Unfortunately, my camera is no longer working.
No pics until I get a replacement

    Great paint up fella,
I too agree with the US MED GREEN for the armor.
Great work, another thread to subscribe to,

Wow, that is an excellent job.

Couple of questions, what are you using for masking fluid and does the decal need battle damage?

    Once again, great job.
