Thanks for the link Asok. Unfortunately I already have that reference photo. I'm starting to assume there isn't a lot of info on this topic... considering most of the blade is covered by a pocket anyway.
However I thought it might be better to do a quick drawing and ask a few questions.
1. For the blade's edge does the bevel go all the way around (e.g. option A) or does it stop just past the tip on the right hand side (e.g. option B)?
2. How should the top profile of the knife look? Should it be squared off in option A or rounded as it's seen in option B?
And finally...
3. Am I just being anal-retentive about this?

I think that what asok's point is if I read the material right, is that the 'knife' blade is not necessarily a blade.
The reference of a blade, is actually another interpretation of the blade, dont by don post studios. The actual part, is not long enough to have a blade, and theres no proof/reference that they 'created' the blade for it.
Some costumers create a blade out of it, to 'idealize' its use, but theres no data that shows that the blade is any mor ethan the top of the stirrer cut off. Therefore negating the though of 'how the blades bevelled'.
So technically, to be cannon, in most of the experts eyes, just the 'handle with 4 holes' with the 'rim flashing' ground down to be more like a knife butt is all that is necessary. As long as you cut it the right height so that the appropriate amount sticks out of your shin tool pocket.

I figured there were a few option... considering there are different versions to the rest of the shin tools. I personally prefer the look of the knife blade over the stir stick. Heh heh, not to "whiz in anyone's cornflakes" or anything, but personally. I'm going with the cut off stirring stick! I'm not wasting time trying to re-create "functional" shin tools, because as stated, the "real" ones probably were not. I also feel the SWVD tools are all in all kind of dumb looking! I don't think there would be much "survival" with that dopey, dullest ever looking butterknife!! OK rant done! Seriously though, maybe long after I'm done, and I'm bored (read: never) I'll go back and make "complete" shin tools, but its low on the list for me. Guess that didn;t add anything constructive to this thread... :O So let me finish by saying, since none of them are "right" make them how YOU like them best!

Well, than id take into account that a 'flat back edge' would cause a wound that blead a lot more. A blade that is sharp on both sides, creates a would that shuts. A square side, makes a wound that stretches and tears open. so if you really want a nasty weapon, square on one side

Exactly the way I feel. I have never, never been asked to 'show off' my shin tools in person. As a matter of fact, I use a few pieces of inside-out duct tape wrapped around the tools to secure them in the pockets. (I lost a couple tools years ago while doing some Fett-freestyle-boogie-down dancing at a Halloween party.)
Kudos for those replicating the Visual Dictionary versions, though. Those versions are just not what was worn in the films.

I removed my shin pockets, stiched some velcro on the inside of the pocket, reattached tot he jump suit... than put sticky back velcro on the back of the shin tool... works like a charm and I can still remove them without any hassel.
