SE Fett Question... Please help.

I was talking with another member and he had brought up a valid point...

On SE promo shots, Fett is wearin the obligatory red girth belt, but on screen and in screen shots, it appears he is wearing the brown girth in the SE suit.

So, my question is... Can I wear the brown girth belt and still be 501st and TDH approved as having an accurate SE Fett?

Really need some sage help on this one....:confused

Gallery stills of Fett with the ladies in Jabba's Palace look like he's wearing the red belt to me. Not sure which screen shots you refer to -- maybe ANH SE shots? I'd go with red, myself.

Here's the costume combo of when he is with the ladies. Granted, under certain lighting it may look different, but I haven't seen any pics taken under "normal lighting" where the belt looks crimson.

To get an idea of how much light plays into things take a look at the next two pics. I don't think anyone would have any doubt the shots were taken within seconds of each other, but one is either lightened or adjusted, or more light was used. Check out how the color of the girth belt changes. Or even more dramatically, look at the armor. Or look at the shoulder bells going from more orange to more yellow/orange. I think this is why people had such a hard time nailing the colors on the helmet. You can't go by what color it appears in screen caps. The only thing we know for sure is what we see in MOM pics and AOSW pics, which were taken under closer to normal conditions--though even then, the flash can change things a bit.

Yeah, see that first pic is the one I've really been looking at the hardest. There's really no getting around the idea that that is a brown girth. Mostly, I'm just worried about going brown and not getting 501st approval over something so trivial. Anybody have an solid on whether my worries are well-founded? I'm really trying to nail it here, which is one of te reasons I've decided to do the saber damaged stunt pack now that we know it really exsisted and have reference pics to make it accurate. To me the brown belt would be another way of takin the SE to another level.

Thanks, Shelby for postin those pics, btw. :)

No problem.

I don't believe the brown is just a straight brown, though, BTW. I really think the dye needs to be custom mixed to get the right brown to rusty orange proportion.

My first one came out really well. My fear is that I won't be able to duplicate it again, as I am getting ready to dye another one. Will let you know how that works out.

Another BTW . . . it is my belief the same color they used for the girth is the same color they used for dying the jawa robes. I need to do some pictorial comparisons, but if you look at the jawa robes, they are not a straight brown, but a rusty-red /orange brown.

Getting the colors right issue is not exclusive to Star Wars. The gorilla soldier tunics in Planet of the Apes are often thought to be straight black, when they are mixed color of dark gray and silvery purple airbrushed onto the black. I accomplished that color once before and again, doubt I'll be able to replicate it twice, but who knows.

And yet another BTW, Sonic, just came home a while ago. The belt came and once I took the wedge of cardboard out of the base of my mannequin's back (which I had been using to help with his backside contour), the belt fit perfectly, sitting just above the cod piece. Thanks a bunch for that. (y)

The SE belt is redder, not brown. See two photos below to see effects of duskier light on the color (from TDH gallery):

Pic 1 -- in a little shadow, looks a little darker:

Pic 2 -- different light, it's red!

Plus, it just looks better! (y)

Here's another color comparison between what is seen as it is in person vs. on film under special lighting conditions and / or lighting gels. Check out the color difference on the base green. Essentially the same helmet right?

the way i see it, until someone tells us what color the girth belt is, we will never know, since sometimes flash takes out color, shadows take out color...how you can you possibly tell from these pics what color it REALLY is...:D

well, just to prove your point, in the pics, the pouch looks pink...(y) and what is up with the scope on the blaster, are we not being screen accurate with our blasters? hmm...:rolleyes Chris, arent you 501st with your Fett? isnt your girth very Red? your Fett is amazing, brother, so there ya go...:) if you can get in with it being very Red, or burnt orange, what diff does it make? :D i think we are arguing the same points...

You can check out the MOM or AOSW pics and get a pretty good idea because under a bit more normal lighting conditions.

My argument is that even the reddish tinted pics, the girth still has more orange than red to it. At some point someone must have done a replica girth that was barn red and it kind of stuck. Your memory superimposes the red onto the ref pics because now you're used to seeing red replica belts.

I'm not saying there isn't some red in the dye mix. There is. I'm only saying that the barn red / blood red that so many people are using doesn't match with any pics I'm seeing.

The color difference is similar to the jawa robes. Ask a typical die hard fan what color a jawa's robe is and they'll say brown or even dark brown. They're used to seeing the action figures, paintings, and interpretations, and haven't really looked at the actual item, because there's a lot of orange in the mix . . .

I agree on the 501st issue. You pull off a good Boba and I can't see them turning you down because of small issues like them seeing the girth as a different color, or thinking your shin pockets are half an inch too high. I think it's an overall impression that they would be looking for. If your overall impression seems right to them, you should get in no problem. Heck, I know they let people in with green jetpacks when we know it should be multicolored. :D

Amen! :lol:lol::lol: I'm beginning to wonder if we've been running the wrong direction.... What if they actually started with a brown girth, and then dyed it red? It would explain why it reacts so dramatically due to light and angle.

Thats a very valid question. Not sure if thats JB, but it's common knowledge that the SE is the worst version. So much so, that I think everyone who already has an SE should switch to ESB, and send me any of their SE parts. I promise they'll be destroyed promptly... you know for posterity's sake. I'll then be the only SE, as an example of what not to do. I'd be willing to make that sacrifice cause I care about you all so much.;):rolleyes:D:D:D
