SE Boba scratch build

New Hunter
Hello everyone, and welcome to my ROTJ SE scratch build thread!
Before I get started I just wanted to say thank you to the entire community here, for allowing me to join, and for your collective knowledge and talent. The sheer amount of information gathered here is unparalleled, thank you all.
Like the title suggests I'm going to build as much as I can, at least as far as the helm and amour is concerned. For the soft parts I might have a go if time allows, but looking around here there a lot of real talented artists here who I hope to turn to. Building this costume will introduce me to some new processes like moulding/casting, and airbrushing so it's all very exciting!

The helmet and gauntlets are from Skips pepakura(hope that's correct), the helm I have a love-hate thing going on, may or may not have the right shape but it fits over my glasses. The gauntlets I'm not sure how to finish them, at the moment I can't fibreglass the inside because of the layered detail top pieces(not shown are the bottoms). The amour is going to be made from 3mm sintra.
Again a big thanks to all of you for all the great work you do, I welcome any advice, inputs, thoughts, and questions(I have many). :)

So just a small update, i've decided on using RafalFett's awesome templates. Within the next few days I'll get them cut and assembled to test the fit/size before moving onto sintra, and I might make a new helmet. Any thoughts on the one I have? Also I apologize for my sideways pics in the first post, not sure why it happened lol, try harder next time to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Cheers, Beard

So it's been awhile since my last post, work has been keeping me busy, but I can finally get back to building my Fett! So I cut my templates and did a rough test fit, it's not the best but I hope it shows the size accurately enough, what do you guys think, to big/small? It all felt pretty good, looked nice up close. Thanks in advance for your input :)

Cheers, Beard

It's a bit late of a reply, but thanks dude! I will definitely post as much as I can in the near future

So a small update, finally got a hold of some 3mm sintra, enough to make all my armor. The funny thing, I'm 3days away from a 8 day fishing trip! It will be a couple weeks, but there will be a whirlwind of progress (hopefully) on my Fett. See you all soon :)

Cheers, TheBeard

Got most of my templates traced onto 3mm sintra, now for some cutting. For the knees and maybe the shoulders im going to try something different, i'll post that this evening

Cheers, TheBeard:)

So a bunch of stuff to show, put in the triangles and the dent, and finished up the ears, still have to tackle the range finder. Going to fiberglass the helm within the week. Cut my armor from 3mm sintra, had the not so great idea of cutting it bigger then sand to shape. In practice theres a lot sanding so i'm going to trim with a knife then sand. The knees and shoulders, I saw this trick on the mando mercs facebook page, to use pvc elbows to make them so going to give it a try. I will post the results later today. On a side note, sorry for the rotated pics, not sure why they did that. I messed around trying to fix it for 30 min and still couldn't fix it.
More to come soon:)

Cheers, TheBeard

So cutting the PVC elbows wasn't that hard, with some sanding I think this will work. Still not sure why the pics are sideways, I've tried to fix it but nothing so far has worked.

Sideways pics happened to me too. No idea on how to fix that. I saw the post on the Mando Mercs page too and was wondering about it. Really looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

I'll keep you posted! Just picked up a few more, this time tomorrow I will have details, and more sideways pics :p

Possibly it's orientating them to landscape?

Not sure, i'm messing around with some options now but still can't fix it. My knowledge of computers is basic at best, this is about as technical as I get lol. Not sure how much more time I feel like wasting trying to fix this, I have a Fett to build and pics to show! :)
I'll try a few more things and if I still can't fix it by tomorrow, i'll show my progress pics even if there sideways and upside down!

I finally might have fixed my sideways pic problem, but it might be temporary with the difference of using my work computer. Still have to make the changes stick on my home pc, oh well for the moment there the right orientation so back to Boba Fett! Like I metioned earlier I used pvc elbows found in the plumbing section of Canadian Tire, a Canadian hardware/home store, but i'm sure there in Lowes or Home Depot. I took a pic of the label on the elbow, they have a 4" diameter. I used a oscillating multi tool with saw blade attachment to cut them, it's not a hard material to cut. The fisrt 3 pics are my shoulders, the other set of 3 are my knee caps, i'm going to use 3mm sintra for the rest of the knees. Last 2 pics are the last few things holding up the resining of my helmet, ears and the dent and triangle details. So far so good, feel free to comment, question, etc. :)

Annnd i'm back. So i've prepped my helmet and gauntlets for resin/fiberglass, filled the holes in the corrugated section of my helmet with hot glue, and hollowed out the gauntlets for glass cloth. I'll have better pics once everything is resined. The pics are in the wrong order, the first one is what i'm using for resin, it's from Smooth-On, Epoxamite 100 with the 101 fast hardener. 10 min pot life with an 8 hour cure time. I'll do 1 coat outside, then cloth and 1 coat inside. I mix by weight in plastic cups, 4 parts epoxamite to 1 part hardener. So for my helmet I will put my cup on the scale then tare it to zero. Measure 80grams, then add 20grams (Canadian measurements) of hardener, mix and brush on, simple:p (big thanks to Stealth on the rpf for the info on this stuff, saw this and other vids a few yrs back and it's been a big help ever since)

Like I said, i'll have more pics tomorrow when its all hardened up, comments/questions/criticisms, all welcome :)

Cheers, TheBeard

P.S. When using this or other stuff, be safe. Respirator and gloves are a must, well ventilated room or outside to work in

It worked! I win :p I'm talking about my rotating pic problem that has been plaguing me for the last couple weeks lol. For those with a similar problem and are swearing profusely at your computor, go into the device that your pics are on, ie...phone, click through the folders/pics untill you find the rotated pics, click edit, rotate to the correct orientation, then click save, Not save as. Choose a save destination, boom! bobs your uncle. I know this is not Fett related but this has been a huge problem for me and i'm super excited about finally fixing it:lol:. Anyway back to building, My helmet is resined, and the gauntlets, and ear caps. I think everything turned out pretty good, what do you guys think? Next is to glass everything, then I can sand down the glue on the helmet, then fill everything with bondo.

I've also picked up some material and i'm going to have a go at making the flak vest, it was in the twill section but the label said unknown doctor twill. Compared with everything else they had this is the closest thing they had, any thoughts on the material/color? Let me know what you think about everything, what you like/dislike, all comments welcome:)

Got some work done on the left gauntlet missile, still some work left on it but it's coming along. The body is made from hobby rocket tubes, you can find those in packs at any hobby store, and single sided corrugated cardboard to mimic the ribbing. The head is also from a hobby rocket, I found one with a size I liked and cut it apart. The end cap is a rubber stopper from any plumbing supply section of any hardware store, and the metal screw I had lying around. I'm going to resin/fill the body to make it nice and smooth, and the head I have a few ideas, I might fill the inside with something to make it rigid, then drill some holes in it. I'll post more as I complete it. Till next time :)

If I may make a suggestion for the rocket, I used a wooden dowel rod and strips of square wooden pieces for the rocket body and ribs found at any hardware/ home depot type store.
