SE Boba Fett build

Cheers for that F4R, yeh ive still yet to weather the top yellow section, I held off doin it untill I had the blue done as the weathering will cross over both colours, so now I can get a more uniform weathering
Thanks for those links tho, i'll be using them (y)

Hey guys, ive still been lugging away at my fett build. Ive been kinda busy, I managed to sell my old gauntlets, and then went and purchased a set off of boba trooper (highly recommend). I also purchase one of Terminal fettlers RF, absoultly stunning piece, which also had the LED circuit board installed :D And I also ordered a helmet, sadly it hasnt arrived yet but hopefully soon :p

Out of the three things that I ordered, two of them have arrived, sadly not my helmet. Firstly I sold off my old gauntlets, nothing wrong with them just I wanted something a little bit more accurate and to have some sharper edges and details. I managed to get a beautiful set with full switch and led kit for a good price, thanks for the awesome business Bobatrooper (y)
These are straight out of the box they were sent in, they do require a sand and a little bit of filler here and there but overall there really good. There cast in polyurethane plastic so are strong yet light, they come pretty much finished, just need to get the gauntlet darts and wire up the LED. My only problem is that the left gauntlet wont close, seems my forearm is two big. So im going to have to add about 5cm to the edge to get it to fit properly, nothing much compared to my other gaunts, the right gauntlet fits like a glove strangely enough :confused

And secondaly, I love this more than the gauntlets actually, my range finder topper. This thing is a work of art, hand crafted out of aluminium and painted a flat black by Terminalfettler himself :D Thank you so much mate, so stoked about it lol. The topper has then been paired with an LED circuit, that fits snuggly in the topper and activates when lowered, the lights blink in intervals just like it should. It breaks down very easy as well, with two powerful magnets holding the clear section in place. The only work I had to do was glue the little black window on. I'll be mounting a servo in the helmet linked to my gauntlet to opperate the rage finder as well :D

So thats what ive got so far, fingers crossed I can update again tomorrow if my helmet turns up, I can then spend the week documenting me trimming and prepping the piece ready for paint. Im planning on completing these gaunts come January//February as I want to get my armour and paint every thing at the same time. Should be ordering my flack vest and girth belt as well just after Christmas so the fett is coming together nicely.

If anyone knows a good way of making a gauntlet bigger (I know that different makers vary in size so im thinking it must be common) Can anyone give me the best method of doing so?
Cheers for looking,

Welsh

Cheers guys,
Well I was sorting my fett bits out yesterday ready to put my gauntlets away and decided to set up what I got to see where all my money has gone :confused

DSCF0630.jpg

Actually suprised that I dont have much left to buy, Like I said I do have the helmet, just not on me lol, the vest and girth belt will be purchased before december is out, and the armour will be purchased all in one go as soon as I can afford it  Thought I would share the pic with you, as my thread mainly consists of gauntlets lol, I do have other parts.

Merry Christmas guys,

Welsh

Excellent work so far this is definetly a great thread...you make me very eager to start my scratch-build hopefully over this Christmas break. Have a great holiday mate, and keep up the good work

That suit is coming together nicely WW! Just a heads up, the circuit you have in the RF top was lovingly created by mrgr8ness, perfectly formed to fit in a tight space... highly recommended... (y)

Thank you zeafour, glad you like me thread:lol:

Thanks G for reminding me, totally forgot to mention mrgr8ness :facepalm Yeh its an awesome little thing, such great quality and it looks the mutts nuts. It fits so nicely into the topper, no glue or anything needed, really nice. Im not sure but im going to have to have a look, but I think its mrgr8ness that I intend to by a RC servo if he does another run, not sure if it is him tho lol.
I suppose the topper it fits into aint bad either :p Thanks for the excellent service G (y)

Cheers guys,
Welsh

Double post :facepalm
Thought I mite mention, my lid will be arriving after Xmas now, with all the snow we've had over hear and the person I bought it off being ill (Hope you're feeling better mate (y)) Its going to be better and safer to post it after the Xmas rush. Even though its my first lid paint up, ive also been asked by one of the boba's in my garrison, to paint his helmet as well. So there will be allot of painting happening after Christmas lol.

I'll also be ordering a BM flak vest to match my lovely flight suit and a nice girth belt off a certain female member
Depending on how much cash I have left after all that I may pick up a stormrider ee-3 kit if he's still doing them.
So pretty much the last update until stuff starts arriving,
Merry Christmas guys,
Welsh

I can see where you coming from Rob, the piece is really sharp and it has that indent above where the darts go (add a few darts and grappling hook and I can start a jango lol). I plan on softening up the details a bit, as well as smoothing out the underside square details. I removed the little greeblie that goes above the darts as well, so when that goes back on it should bring it back to more of a boba look............ I may have a go at doing that now lol
My biggest problem is with the left gauntlet, It just wont go over my arm, im not a big bloke like but it is quite a small gap, so most of the work will be making it larger.
Thanks for the Crit mate, I still gotta finish painting your JP, im dying to try it on lol.

Thought I would just edit this post rather than triple post lol. With Robs comments and the fact that they do indeed look more like jango gauntlets I decided to fix them. Basically I filled in the square detail section, rounded off most of the sharp edges (I kept some as I like the definition) and filled in some pin-holing. This is what being stuck in because of 2 foot so snow outside your door does to you lol.

Ive still got to do bits and bobs on it like going through the different grits of paper to give a glass like finish so didnt go to much with the primer, just enough so you can see what ive done. Basically its not as defined now, i'll probably take a little more off the detail square but that will be it, I think it looks more boba now. Now thats it lol, no more updates till after Xmas.
Cheers guys,

Welsh

Well, I've been bunged up with the dreaded man flu for the last few days and do you think I can sleep  Well anyways, I took advantage of this insomnia of mine, fact that everyone in the house is actually sleeping, and with the cold weather outside and the nice warm kitchen of mine, I decided to do some painting inside lol.
Back onto the JP, I was determined to get the main body finished, I only thought to grab the camerea after I had finished  But other than the yellow, this was the most frustrating thing to do, to try and get a nice even finish on the white was unbelivaable. And when I finally did get it right, applying the black detailing the paint seaped under the tape. So after sanding it all down, painting the white, double masking the black, then hand painting the top tank detail and weathering the main tank detail, I finally have finished the main body of the JP (Still have to hand paint the details and weather it but you get the point?

Where you see the white coming onto the blue on the tanks, its ok as theres masking fluid underneath, I found that instead of trying to mask the edges I would just use the fluid. Just waiting for the paint to fully dry as I dont want the flecks of white paint flicking onto the wet red paint. I also found time yesterday to attact my jetpack harness hooks, so this thing is now wearable :D

So now the next updated now will be of the finished thing, all assembled, painted and weathered. Now just gotta bloody try and get to sleep :confused
Would much rather doing more fett stuff,
Cheers guys,

Welsh

Thank you for the compliment mate,

Well I know I said the next update would be of the finished piece, but I had a little problem with one of the thrusters so im holding off on them for a while. But I did manage to do a heap of work on this thing. First to spray black paint over a thing that youve spent over a month working on was very nerve racking, and then to try and tackle the complexity of the rocket paint job was non the less worrying that the weathering. But I managed to get a result that I am so so happy with :D
I opted for using pastels to whether the blue, but decided to man up and use the airbrush, and thankfully it turned out great. The missile was painted silver, a gradient black applied followed by a heavey misting of red on top. I still have to apply the red on the bottom but that is it. I then Hand painted on the details on the white tanks, and im contiplating buying a decal or hand painting the long one on the yellow tank. Anyways enough talk.......piccies

I am really happy with this piece now though, although I recieved complimets off of you guys I wasnt really happy with it, but now I dont think I could have done any better, really didnt think I could do something of that size :confused I have the beacons and bits but their resin casts and I want to have an LED set up so im looking to ordering an aluminium one. Now Im pleased with the results, but I know the high standards you guys suits are, so would you say this is an acceptable piece  Any advice or criticism would be much appreciated as you guys are the experts :D
Thanks for looking,

Welsh

As have said before mate this looks the nuts, can't wait to see the lids. re doing a few bits on mine again due to you and the art you are creating.

(Blows dust off of topic :D , cough* cough*

Hey guys, thought I would bring back the dead with a good ol' necro post hehehe.
Well ive been busy these last few weeks, with college finals and of course painting up my first ESB lid for our good old friend radar, ive sort of been neglecting my own Boba. After news that my lid has actually shipped yesterday ( thanks Gav) and also a few extras with it due to the time I had to wait for it, I decided to brush the dust of my fett and start it back up again.

So I took my JP, and decided enough was enough, it needed to be finished. I glued on the small greeblie piece, hand painted the decals and sanded the thruster down. After a good wet sand, I painted them up and weathered them like the tank tops. I ran out of air propellant so there not as weathered as I would like but they look good enough. The piece that I want to get now is an ALI stabilizer and LED set up to complete the pack. I dont know if I posted the pick before but I also painted the creators watermark on the back of the pack, kinda nifty I think :D

Ive also been busy with my helmet, even though I dont even have it. As ive posted before, Ive got my ali RF topper aswell as the LED circuit board for it. I know also have an Ali RF stalk, BM visor and a beautiful Stormrider helmet interior. I did have photos on my phone of me prepping them but I lost my phone the other week....and by lost I mean it went through the was

DSCF0961.jpg

And I also started work on some of the interior pieces, also took some good snaps which show off the awesome details of these pieces.

So thats it for now, fingers crossed now my helmet gets here asap as im now itching to start it. So the next picture update I will have will be of the lid, that will then be a full wip as I document how to prep, cut, install the pieces and finally paint the piece, so prepare for a picture onslaught lmao.
Cheers,

Welsh

Cheers TF, means a lot coming from you.

Well I got home today to find a lovely big box, after ripping it open and serching through all the packing peanuts I managed to find this beauty...with a couple of other pieces.

DSCF0970.jpg

I got to first thank Gavin, for the excellent service he provided my and the quality bucket that I received off of him, just like all of his metal work, this thing is a beaut...and this time its mine :wacko

I also received one of his beautiful stainless steel Borden connector, its going to pain me to drill out the cast Borden in the helmet but I really like shiny things. Also in the kit was all the ear pieces and the MQ1 circuit board.

DSCF0971.jpg

I actually did manage to get a start on the lid, only to the point of removing the excess flashing on the underside of the lid. This is a pretty much easy and straight forward job, simply using the cutting wheel on my dremel, I carefully cut the piece out.

DSCF0972.jpg

If you want to save your cutting disk and not have them shatter, the best way to cut out the piece is to really take your time. Dont try and go through on your first pass as the stress on the wheel will cause it to crack, gently keep going over the lines to achieve a nice smooth cut.

DSCF0973.jpg

DSCF0974.jpg

DSCF0975.jpg

Next up will be cutting out those infuriating key slots, then to screw the ears on and cut the visor out, job done ready for paint :p
Just another thank you Gav, cant believe I finally got my own boba lid, if any of you guys need any Ali stuff, Gav's the man to go to. His communication and service is second to none.

Updates soon,

Welsh
