    SE Boba Fett build

Hello, Ive been lurking around the forum for a while now, looking and learning as I went, so I think its time to actually contribute something back. Ive been toying with the idea of joining the 501st uk garrison for a while as looking at CTN inspired me to do a clone, but then I found this forum and had to do a fett. Now this isnt my first project so I knew what costs would be like but even so it still took me by suprise, along with the all the small details and extras. Looking at the different versions of boba, ive decided to go with the special edition fett, title kind of gives it away lol. Now im only 17 and in the UK where jobs are kind of hard to come by at the moment and im still in full time education, so money for this project is kinda thin and I will be picking up bits and bobs as I go along, so lets show you what ive got.

Now I will be using and upgrading to better parts later, but a sale for some cheap armour came up that I thought I could fix and improve. Many thanks here to Artek for the ecellent service he gave to me, cheers. The armour is made out of styrene I think, ive never used it before so dont really now, but i will be fiberglassing the backs as i like my armour to feel like.......well armour. There is a bit of damage but nothing a bit of filler and some elbow grease will slove.

Next is my gauntlets, I did something naughty here and bought of ebay and sort of got stung, but for the price I paid there pretty good and are a decent base to work off. These are what im working on at the moment so here are the pics,

This is how the gauntlets arrived, loads of flashing and excess waste that needed to be trimmed off. There fiberglass layered and are pretty strong, but there are alot of bubbles, the extra peices are also pretty good, although the wrist rocket is warped and unuable so thats the only problem I have at the moment.

I'll skip a few steps of me triming and dremelling away. I got the gauntlets all cut and trimmed and started to measure them for my arm.

Once I got them all cut and measured ready, i put them together to find..........warpage Thats what you get for goin cheap.

Out comes the filler. The top section is almost perfect, its the lower section that is warped. I put some tape of the good seam, and lined up the gauntlets, i then smeared a generous helping of body filler to level out the join. Also when sanding down the underside gauntlet, I found multiple low spots that also needed to be filled.

After a good hour of sanding, checking, more filler followed by more sanding. I got them to a decent enough state. I fixed all the pieces together to get an overall feel of the gauntlet, eventhough the rocket is on I will not be using it.

So those two pictures are about 2 days work, and theres still loads more to do on them. So thats were I am at the moment and should have some more progress to show tommorow. Any advice or comments would be much appreciated as im very new to boba.
    Cheers for looking,
    Lewis

Re: SE Boba Fett build 98% finished

Hey guys, i got some more work on the left gauntlet to day that im pretty happy with. Its still not finished as I have some small spots to fill in and it needs some more fine sanding to get them perfectly smooth. Now these pics the piece is only held together with masking tape so things arnt perfectly level.

I think ive done a pretty good job cleaning them up and I dont think there that bad, certanly for £40. What I had trouble with most was the laser unit (Think thats what it is, I am new to all this), I couldnt get the piece to line up correctly, and once i did there was the trouble of attatching it.
I deceided to simple screw the piece in, counter sinking the screw inside to allow the two barrels to attatch.

I had some of those very same gauntlets off ebay from a guy in the UK. Mine came just the same way but with alot of hard work theyturned out great. Yours will too. You already have a very good start, keep it up

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Thanks for the complimets guys, I havant had really much time to work on these. Any way not really much to show and to save this topic from dying I thought i'd post this. Not really much to show as im bogged down with all A level courswork but ive managed to get a little work done that Im pleased to show you.

So i gave the gauntlets a quick spray of primer and overall they looked good, not perfect but good. The next day though I found hundreds of tiny holes that were in the fiberglass, so i had to fill every single on by smothering the entire piece with filler.

So now after about an hour maybe two, I got it all sanded smooth, wet sanded it all and then went out and bought some automotive filler primer. And i gotta say money well spent now, the gauntlets are perfect ( minus one little thing) the paint has filled all the holes and left me with one smooth looking gauntlet, albeit just the top half but a finished top half.

And for size comparasion, here I am trying it on ( Am I the only one who cant wait to try their stuff on?)

The only problem I have with the gauntlet is the compad, ive fixed it up the best I could but resulted in me sanding the numbers and icons out, but I can easily cut it out and replace with a resin copy at a later date. So thats pretty much it, hopefully i can get the bottom half finished soon then gorra hinge them together. Any ways cheers for looking,

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

hey guys, havant had much time on this project this last week due to exams and deadlines, but ive managed to get some work done. As ive said the rocket on the gauntlet was an usable cast, and I was also having alot of trouble trying to mount the flame barrels into the unit. So i decided to buy some items off a member from my local garrison, and am really happy with what I got. (dont know if your on here or not but cheers Nathan)

The stuff i ordered was a rocket, vacform flame unit, the barrels and switches. Ive also order a new dental expander and key pad off the bay but it hasnt arrived yet.

I did some work on the lower part of the gauntlet, adding filler then sanding it all off. But after a coat of primer, much like the other peice, little holes started to show.

So after smothering the gauntlet in more filler, then painfully sanding it all off, wet sanding and then a coat of primer, there finished( minus a little hole here and there that needs sorting)

I then went back to the awsome stuff I got off nathan, and wet sanded all of the resin pieces (not that they needed to as they arrived pretty much ready for paint) And gave them a coat of primer and a test fit on my gauntlet.

So the gauntlet is now almost finished, the flame unit just need assembling and is ready for paint and I need to attatch the buttons, screws and hinges and then onto the next one A long process but im getting closer to my first finished fett part.

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

    Hello guys,
Got some small work to show you ll that im pretty pleased with. After all the sanding and filling that I did n the gauntlet, I decided to try hand at a bit of painting. I had ordered a new data board and dental expander for the gauntlet so decided to have a go at that, just to see if I could paint

The data pad was a decent cast, so after a coat of primer and a spray of silver, I started to add weathering with inks and water colours. I wanted to go with a grimey weathered version, the pictures make it look alot darker than what it is but im happy with it for a first effort. Also the dental expander is an upgraded piece and is not stuck down yet.

After I painted the pad I got the painting bug and had to find something else to paint, and the flamer barrels came to hand. I sprayed them grey then dry brushed them with silver acrylic, i then used browns and yellows to create weathering and a rusting effect on them.

I have also started to work on the shoulders, having them primered up and also started on the second gauntlet

I got everything now pretty much assembled and fixed with the left gauntlet, i just need to drill the holes for the switches and the red light, then assemble them.

Ive also just got myself a really good bargan off ebay, winning some cod and butt armour along with some shin tools, unfortunatley though from a member off here who had to sell up, so if you see this on here thank you. Thats it untill I get my parts this week, what do you think of my first paint job
    Cheers,

Wow, spideyfett and bfuk, thanks for the compliments and gracing my thread lol
    Cheers for the compliments guys.
Not really an update on any work but the stuff that I have ordered has arrived.
I got a great deal on the cod and butt armour, looks amazing in person and is fierglass and feels great. The paint job is superb, but sadly is not accurate to the SE so im thinking I will have to change it. The guy I bought these off said he got them off here, any one recognise them or the paintjob, same with the shin tools??

Also got the shin tools, again these are much better than expected. The seller said they were resin but they seem like wood. Whatever they are they look the part. I really dont know if theres a difference between the esb and rotj shin tools, can the more experianced fetts here help out??

So thats pretty much it, if you could help me out with the paint problem and shin tools it would be much appreciated. Off to get some more cutting disks for my dremmel so I can start trimming up the secound gauntlet, yay fun :|

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Got a bit of an update here, I decided the otherday to go out and buy myself an airbrush. Only a very basic starter one, nothing special as I just wanted to see if I could actually use one, along with a selection of paints and thinners. Now I decided to paint up the flame unit, something small and easy to fix if it all went pare shaped. And sadly it did, look at it, the paint just would not stick and its all peeled off, lucky enough though in the same spots as the original

I am so happy with myself, i thought that for a first time using an airbrush it came out really well. There are a few spots that are not the best, but i can fix it with weathering. Ive still got to add inks and some pastels then a clear coat but I just really wanted to show you guys lol. What do you think for a novice??

Looking great love the progress on this. One thing that I have learned is that the silver layer can be a bit of a pain and other colors especially acrylics have a hard time sticking to it. So best rule is it put down a clear coat or a dullcote between the silver and the next color to give the paint something to grab onto.

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

hey guys, got some piccies to show you all, alot of piccies, and I kinda need some advice aswell
Orite so the other day I began to assemble the gauntlet, so this is what it looked like last night, along with how it looks currently, really happy with how it turned out.

Now that It was all dried I put down a layer of silver, Jango anyone :

Then I began the masking and painting the red, which I feel turned out pretty good. Bare in mind the paint is gloss so needs a matt finish before it will look the same as the flame unit. It still has little bits of masking fluid that I need to wipe off, so forgive the little bumps you can see.

Now for the questions, Do you thing the red is to light, I know it needs a clear coat but im worried it wont help to much. Also do you think ive overdone the silver on the inner part of the gauntlet. I used referance images to get similar damages as the oringinal but I couldnt find a good shot of the inner side so just improvised. Comments and crit really welcome, what do you guys think?

I think the red looks pretty darn good. Once you get some weathering and the clear coat in there it will darken it up a little (at least that's what happened to mine). Don't forget to get out a good sharp knife and give it some scratches, it really adds to it, but don't over do it. Keep it up, its looking great!

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

So ive been doin some work on the gauntlet as usual. So I decided to cut a part of the flamer unit up, although they were already fantastic, the barrells didint seem long enough. So with a little cutting and trimming hey presto....

Anyways, I added a clear coat the other day and i almost ruined the gauntlet with it as the clear coat left all white spots and blemeshis on the piece. So I masked up all the silver damage again, and resprayed the piece again, this time though I feel the colour looks alot better. I also added the scortch marks and some dirt and grime to almost finish the gauntlet. What do you think

As you can probably see the rocket is in the background with a black coat of paint on it, so that will be the next thing to do. Now do you guys think of the paintjob, bare in mind its my first attempt with an airbrush.
    Cheers,

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Got some more work to show today, what better to do on study leave :P
I was going to try and screw on the actual flame unit, but seeing how strong this glue is I have, i decided to use that. So out came the clamps, this is currently curing as the glue takes about 16 hours to dry so I dont know if its strong enough till tommorow.

The tissue paper is there to protect the paintwork from the clamp, although I dont see why as there all ready scratched and chipped

All of the referance pics im using im getting off the TDH and the gallery is down, so I kinda guessed how low down to put it, but I remember that its lower at the back than the front.

I also started up on the rocket, using the masking method and rattle can instead of airbrush, again I kinda guessed the damage but I think it looks about right. Just got to paint the front part copper/gold then weather it then glue it on.

Other than the little red LED that ive got to add plus the magnets to close the piece, I think im finished with this one. Any constriv crit would be much appreciated as im new to all this. Kinda excited aswell as I should be purchasing another item for my fett on monday 8)

    Cheers retro
Well good news, the glue finally set and has held the flame unit pretty well. So almost close to a finished piece, just need to pop down to maplins for a red LED. I was thinking of using the rocket switch as a way of activating the range finder, as I know you can get a remote set up with servos and think that would be a good idea. Any way glued on flame unit

Ive also started on the locking method on them. I found some old magnetic cuboard locks, that when dissasembleb gives you two small usable magnets. Glued then into the gauntlet and they take up no room what so ever and are pretty strong so im happy

And ive just gotten the next gauntlet out of the shed and boy o boy, my heart sank a little. After seeing this compared to my finished one you can clearly see the amount of work ive put in and am really not looking forward to doin it again. Plus I now need more blades for my dremel, and was even more shocked at the price of them, stupid B&Q

So now with this gauntlet im not goin to post as much on as I gather your all getting fed up of seeing the things So im goin to do what I can on them and post when there near enough done. But I will have an update soon as ive got a little item coming this week for my fett, supper excited lol.
    Cheers for looking,

Hey guys, I got another update here and amazingly is not on a gauntlet
First of all Ive got to thank Shiv ( james007bond) for an excellent services and great comunication, cheers mate really happy with them
So ive got myself a set of boba boots, and I think there amazing, there super comfy and shiv also included a set of toe spikes, top bloke.
Ive only recieved them today and am dying to work on them, so im off to hobbycraft tommorow to get some paints to ruin these boots

But having them here I really wanted to do something, as they look to clean and shiny. So i ruined the toe spikes. Very simply, add on black accryilc, wait till it dries, rub off with paper towel. I did this with some brown aswell but when it was still wet I dabbed it off, creates a good rusting affect. But as usuall the camera has taken most of it out. And yes there russ's toe spikes, very well made I must say so

Again thanks so much Shiv, great service buddy. So what do you think of my new ruined toe spikes eh? Hopefully I can have the boots correctly weathered and coloured tommorow.
    Cheers for looking,

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Hey guys and gals. Ive been pretty busy today with the fett. With no college and courswork deadlines Im able to spend more time working on it. So I went out today and bought some cheapo accrylic paints from the range. It was a charcoal colour, white and light brown.

After spending ages trying to get the right mix of charcoal and white, came the most nervous thing ive done so far. I watered down the mixture and slapped it on the boot. At first it looked meh, but after a quick go over with a hairdryer, it dried out quite nicely.

Then came another big part of the boot, the weathering. I first tried using a wet on wet technique with the charcoal paint, but I coudnt get the effect I wanted. So I used a black pastel crayon. Working in the boots in circles, rubbing it with a paper towel, then weting a towel to blend the edges in.

I then used this method over the entire piece. Getting into all the seams and joins of the boot. Like most of the time, the camera is not picking up all of the weathering.

Theres also little patches of brown thats been applied to the boot and sole, but the camera just dosent pick it up. The sole also is alot more grubbier in person. So what do you guys think of the boot, colour, weathering I know that there is also a few creases in the boot, but I have quite wide feet that fill them out nicely lol.
    Cheers,
    Lewis

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Hey guys ive got an update, Thanks to shiv for advising to use sandpaper, i scuffed up the boot a little. I also added the cut and coloured it brown. Ive also darkend all the blacks an browns, while also adding purple into certain areas although the camera dosent really show it.

Also did I mention, ive done the other boot aswell 8)

Ive still got to add grey to the black parts of the boot, and perminatly attatch the toe spike, The weathering looks alot different in person, the purple doesnt really show and nor does some of the black.
What do you think of them then, are they tatty enough

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Ive got a pretty big update today but not that many pictures. Ive just ordered myself the ankle spats, utility pouches and the flight suit, so im pretty excited lol. But i have done some work that I can show, firstly I went ahead and finished the boots, adding the weathering to the soles and bottom ( I think it would look odd to have perfecty white soles to such tatty boots)

Next up is my shoulder armour. Bought as part of a set of armour that I got and decided to only keep the shoulders. They look accurate with the one smooth and the other dented with all the correct dents, only problem was that they are very thin.

So I mixed some resin and fiberglassed the entire piece. Egnore the black bits as there off the old brush I used.

Now fully cured, the piece is much more sturdier. Ive just got to give it a sand then paint it up.

    Cheers for looking guys,
    Lewis

    Hey guys, ive been shopping
First of all thanks to boba fett UK for his amazing service, great bloke cheers. And secondly to Woodman, for the items that I bought off of BFU was his and the quality is amazing.
First up is the cape which is perfect along with the weathering,

And then the set of SE wookie braids which are also amazing

Im currently waiting for stuff to arrive, so have been mainly working on the other gauntlet.

Cut and trimed to my liking, followed by a coat of primer to see the mess their in,

Then all covered in lovely green filler

After a couple of hours sanding by hand, followed by a dremel to sharpen all the edges and details, then some primer to see where I am,

I Then began to attatch the section where one of the hoses attatch. Instead of glueing or using screws, I used filler to attatch.

Once attatched and sanded, I then began to fill in some problem areas, wetsand the piece, primered and repeat to a stage where im happy with it.

Anyways thats all ive done for now, I plan on starting the lower section soon but theres some warpage in it that needs to be sorted first. Thanks again to Rob and Woodman.
Thanks for looking, any crit or comments welcome,
    Lewis

Looking great, bruv. The idea with weathering the toe spikes was "spot on". Looks like I'll have to step it up a bit.

    Cheers for the compliments guys,

For something so little Ive had so many problems it wasnt funny, I decided to finish up the left gauntlet today by painting the missile. But by the end of the day I had more paint on my hands than on the missile . So I airbrushed the copper on after masking the rest of the missile off, then finished it off by misting black weathering on.

I then used a generous portion of araldalite to glue it onto the gauntlet to finish it off.

So thats it, finally finished with the gauntlet. I still have the other one in progress and also have the softparts on order which is not fun waiting for them. But at the moment im considering purchasing an ee3 kit, but looking back over the last month I think my wallet needs a break (Im sure i'll still get it though :
Cheers for looking, comments and crit welcomed,
    Lewis

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Thanks FettObsessed, I look forward to seeing you start, its a fun project to do.

Alot of pictures coming at you, hope you dont mind
So I began working on the other gauntlet, although almost preped, I was hampered by some warpage. A few hours with the hairdryer and some constant pressure, I managed to shape it back to normal, a before and after shot,

Then the same way as the other detail piece, I attacthed the hose/pipes to the side of the gauntlet using filler as an adhesive.

Once dry, sanded smooth and wet sanded, finished with some primer.

The piece was then assembled and the piano hinge measured, cut and attatched. Aradalite glue was used and clamps insured it set in the desired position.

Next the fun part. Once the glue had dried, I then sanded it down again followed by wetsanding the piece. Then adding the coat of silver.

Once dry, I applied masking fluid to areas, looking closely at reference images to ensure accuracey. The piece was then coated with red/maroon enamal.

I then used a rubber to remover all of the fluid off. Running the piece under the tap and wiping it over to remove excess bits of fluid. once removed it left me with this.

I then went and airbrushed scorch marks and general dirt to parts of the gauntlet. I also used a compass to create small scratches along with water colours to create dirt and grime.

Ive now gotta paint some minor details and the pipes. Along with add the switchs, darts and hoses. Im really happy with how it came out, and with the practise of the first gauntlet ive done it so much quicker without any problems. The piece still needs its clear coat but it will be added when I finish painting. So what do you guys think, comments and crit welcome as usual

    Cheers for the compliments guys.
First of all im happy to say that my boots are finally finished wahoo. I glued on the toe spike with expo resing and wow there not coming off. Im stil goin to add the screw but there only cosmetic.

As per usual with any fett builder, ive been spending more money, luckily for my wallet not to much lol.
So firstly I went out and bought myself some sub minature flick switches,

I then simply measure out where they needed to be, a quick go with the drill and simply screw them in.

I also went ahead and bought two metres of clear braded pvc pipe. I then cut into three sections.

I then fashioned myself 3 wooden dowels, painted them silver then glued then in place.

I then thickend them up, another coat of silver paint and then glues the pipes in place.

Forgive the candy red colour in the last pick as its yet to have the matt clear coat put on. Ive now gotta hand paint some detail areas then work on the fastening method. Comments and criq highly welcomed lol,
    Thanks,
    Lewis

Cheers web chief, means alot coming from someone who can paint like you

So a very small update here and probably the last for a bit untill my other fett parts decide to show up. So I did the little finishing touches to the gauntlets today, in that I painted up the little detail bits and and pipes.

Ans the pips, egnore the little bubble as its actually water from me wiping them over

And a photographer im not lol. And finally added the matt clearcoat, dosent really show on camera but it looks the same shade of red as the other gauntlet,

So thats the gauntlets officially painted, just got to add the darts and some velcro on the pipes to attatch to my shoulder and bada bing bada boom finished

    Thanks guys,
    Lewis

I plan on getting some off of my friend eBay The fenix props were the ones I will most likely get, at the moment moneys tight for me as ive just passed my bike test so im looking at getting a bike, real life first im affraid. But i'll get them soon enough.
Also found out that Im goin to have to add the red LED on the left gauntlet otherwise they will hinder clearance, does anyone know what type of LED to use? Would be much appreciated.

Just off the top of my head I would recommend Maplins. Maybe something like this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=45937
I used similar Blue LED's for my MC, were spot on.

Oh and PS: what bike you after?

I already have some of those LED, albeit white ones. But I thought the LED looked a little different from the normal ones, guess I'll just get one of them
Well I say ive past my test, ive past my cbt so at the moment im limited to a 125cc, so I plan on getting myself a Yamaha YZF R125, went out the other day to enquire about it and hopefully should have one by next month

They look just like the new R6's and they have the same chassis so its pretty big for a 125, dont know if I'll get that particular one as he was asking silly money, but if I can talk him down a bit Do you have bikes then Red?

Yeah the Yamaha R series are nice bikes. I previously owned a Cajiva Mito 125 (was rubbish) and then a Honda CBR600rr which was a beaut but had to sell due to cashflow problems
Was actually looking into getting a Yamaha R6 at some point. Really nice bikes. The 125 version sounds good for a 125 too.

Sorry to derail your thread :P

Well sort of. The gauntlets were pretty poor, but I felt I was able to get them to a standard that I would be happy with and think I have. The gauntlets will probably be the only item that will need this much work, most of the work now will be painting and weathering as Im mainly buying the other items off of BM. Thanks for the compliment though mate.

OOOO I love Gsxr's, but in my opinion the the new R6 in white are easily the best looking bike around. Ive literally just come back from buying a bike Ive gone completey the other way and have got a Honda XR, allows me to get a grip of the gears and I can have a blast around on the lovely Welsh mountains. Im picking it up tommorow so i'll get a pic up of it, saves the thread from dying while I wait for my stuff to arrive, and this should do me for a couple of months now until a better YZF R125 comes up.
    Thanks Guys,

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Well guys I have something to update, havant really been doing much on my fett for a few days, playing the waiting game on some items. Firstly my spats and pouches that I ordered are way over due, Im hoping customs has them rather than the bloke ripping me off : But I have just ordered myself a SE belt which should be here next week, fingers crossed.
So as usual with this hobby, ive been spending more money yet again. Basically I went out and bought every pot of paint that I need to paint my fett, excluding the helmet.

So having nothing to do, so I thought i'd give a bit of armour ago. This is my first real go at painting a piece, due to the amout of colours involved. So firstly the piece is sprayed with silver paint, then sections are masked out using masking fluid.

Once set, I then sprayed the piece with a yellow/baige colour. Im finding it hard to get even coats so I had to apply two layers :x Once the yellow had dried, I simply peeled the masking fluid off to show the silver underneath.

I then masked off the sliver again, followed by sections of yellow . The piece was then coated in the first shade of green.

Once dry, same as the yellow, I peel off the fluid to reveal the yellow and silver damage.

So basically that were im at at the moment. The colour looks a little light but it still needs another shade of green along with weathering at a clear coat. Im again having problems getting even coats, so this green is goin to have to have anothe layer. Ive also had some problem areas, a few little bubbles along with a bit of cracking paint. So im goin to sort that out tommorw with some wire wool and give it the second layer. Ive then got to add some darker green along with the weathering. So what do you think of my first layering paint job

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Okay so I wasnt happy with the way the butt armour came out, So its now been all stripped off and im probably goin to wait until I get all of the armour before I attempt to paint it again :
So finally, my spats and pouches came after a month of waiting. And to be fair their really really good, colour and quality wise.
So firstly the pouches, Nice and clean, really happy with them and all I need is the belt to attatch them to which should be here next week.

So i decided to weather them up, same method as the boots. I simply put some pastel on areas and rubbed with a wet cloth. I decided to go with some heavey weathering as I know the trouble people have with weathering not showing up in photos. But im happy with it and think it will suit the other grimey parts of the suit. I then also added some foam to give them the solid shape that they have. But these are also the perfect place for a rom fx and speaker as there functional pouches

Next up was the spats, nice and simple with a velcro closure.

Then same as the the pouches, a little pastel spread around to create weathering. The photos take most of the weathering out so they look better in person.

Ive also put a little velcro on the inside to stop the spat from moving around. So now yet again ive got to wait for my belt to arrive, which will hopefully be next week. So what to you guys think of my spats and pouches

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Hey guys, havant posted an update for a while. Did you miss me
The reasson I havant been posting much is that I came off my bike a while ago, pretty lucky to be honest. No broken bones but some nice road rash along with a lovely sprained ankle from the bike falling on me Luckily for me the bike is also in one piece with the only damage being my gear leaver coming off and it taking the paint off one of the fairings, so a quick paint will sort it out lovely lol
So ive decided to pack in my boba, with the crash and all the money envolv...... only joking
Lying in bed it was pretty much all I could think of, so today I got off my bruised backside and decided to give the cod peice another go. Basically this is all done with rattle cans which, with some pastles added here and there, my ****** camera takes all the subtle damages out, you can sort of see the streaks of black that imho look good, so excuse the quality of the pictures but I still want to airbrush some black over the top. This now also need a matt clear coat to dull the shine down. Ive now only taken picks after the green as put down, so here is essentially the finished item. What do you guys think?

    Thanks for the compliment Dutch
Well Ive been doing some more little touch ups to the groin armour. I went over the piece with some wire wool, then very lightly airbrushed a matt black in certain areas of the cod, while then using some black pastel to create some defineing lines and scrapes. I then finished it off with a matt clear coat.

This one is taken directly outside, here you can see the different tones aswell as how different light affects the colour.

Im really happy with how it has turned out, I wanted to get a dark and grimey boba and I think this would suit it. Any critiscism and comments would be really welcome, as I intend to paint the rest of the armour this way
    Thanks,
    Welsh

    hey guys,
after looking through some posts and pictures on here, I decided that the green was to dark, and knowing it was a little off really really bugged me So using Terminalfettlers paint list, I decided to repaint it. The silver and yellow I thought looked good, so I masked that all off and repainted it with humbrol 117. I then mixed a little black with it and began adding tone and weathering. I think the end result is much better than my previous

So what do you guys think, Im much more satisfied with this colour over my first attempt. My camera dosent really show to much detail but it looks better in person.

Thanks Frosty. Yeh the gauntlets can look decent but I think it took around 3 months to get them to a painting standard, and there still not entirely finished, also the accessories that come with them, rocket, flame unit are just unusable. If I was in your boots just go straight for a top maker such as FP, BM etc. You wont get them for £40 but you will have the best available, also FP just released a budget set

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

    Hey guys
Well i kept saying my belt would be here next week, and then next week. But I woke up this morning to find a letter from the royal mail saying I wasnt at home grrrr  So a very quick drive to the local depot, and I came back with this work of art,

The belt is absolutley stunning, and its real leather so smells great lol. If anyone needs a boba belt, taco is the man to go to, thank you so much brother So then came the hardest part, ruining this belt with weathering. So I decided to paint the damage and wear on. It not perfect and I took some artistic licence in certain places were I couldnt find any referance of. Some of the white needs another coat as some brown is showing through, but i'll touch that up tommorow.

And finally I got out the pouches and threaded them on. The pouches are still not finished as im gonna hit them with an airbrush to get them a little more dirty.

Overall im really happy with how it turned out, up close you can see its painted on, and I mean if your about 3 inches away But from about a foot it looks really good. Ive also had confirmation that my flight suit is being built this month, and im also ordering my helmet along with all the armour next week. So I think im about half way through, and hopefully I can get it finished by the end of the year.

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Right guys I need some advise as I think I messed up. I wasnt goin to post any pics of this but means i may have ruined it I need some help. Ive been told be a few peeps that my pouches were way to clean, and now my belt has come I wanted to get them finished to finish the belt setup. So I got my airbrush out and sprayed away. Problem is I think i may have overdid it.

So what do you think, to much? I hope I havant over done it, I think it may be because I had them with so little weathering on I got used to them lol. If I have ive got a long wait before I can get a new set
    Thanks,

Well guys update time. Turned out I did over weather the pouches, so new ones have been ordered. And thanks to the excellent service yet again from Shiv (james007bond), I have a pair of boba gloves. Thanks shiv, posted yesterday an arrived today, an just like the boots im in awe at them
The gloves are perfect, and fit like a.........well glove lol.

Lovely and clean, untill I did my usual weathering process. I first applied browns and yellows to the grey areas and around all the seams, using my finger to the blend them in. I then applied blacks an grey to the white area's, followed by then playing with a black pastel with the gloves on, making the inside and finger tips dirty

I will try an get some better photos of the gloves tommorow, these were taken tonight so arnt the best and dont really show the weathering. I'll also get one with the gauntlets on

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Hey guys, been really busy the last few days. But am so stoked about what I have aquired

Firstly tho, with the incredably rubbish weather were having over here at the moment, theres not really much you can do. So ive basically been weathering the bits that I have. Firstly was my woodman cape, already weathered by the owner before me or possibly by woodman himself. I decided to add some darker areas so that they show up on photos and what not. Not to much, but enough to be noticable.

And then I decided to dirty up the shin tools, simply slapping paint on then rubbing off with a paper towel.

And now what I have been so excited about......

Ive gone and bought a BFUK JP, that the pic thats Rob has sent me I feel like a kid on christmas eve, so happy that I finally have one, its also the most expensive part of the suit sorted. Ive also bought the soft harness with the Full metal fett hooks etc and replica US diving buckle. Hopefully I will get this this week, I havant even recieved it and am already impressed with Rob, a very proffesional gent who quickly responds to my noobie questions, Thanks Mate
So next update will be when I get this beauty,

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Well, had a knock on my door today. Opened it to find a struggling parcel force man carrying a huge crate.......yes crate.

Wow boy, this thing was well packed, took me almost half hour to get the thing out of its box. And wow, I cannot describe how awesome the pack is, its also dawned on me the mammoth task it will take to paint this thing. All parts out of the box and laid out.

Upon further inspection, my heart dropped a little as I turned the pack over. A long crack ran down the back of the pack, actually two cracks, one on either side of the door. But ive been through this before with my gauntlets, so have enough experience with fiberglass to be able to fix this small problem.

Anywhoo, what I then really wanted to see is what the assemble pack looked like. Now simple dosent describe how easy this pack is to put together, a couple of screws and nuts and.............

Now the pack is primered up and ready for paint, but me being so anal, wants to fill and sand some imperfections. The pack is an excellent cast, yet does have some small airbubbles and rough parts that I would like to see to.
But just take a look at the detail that this pack has

So, I will probs start prepping the pack now ready for paint, also goin to fiberglass the inside where those cracks are. But hopefully should start painting by the end of the week
    Thanks,
    Lewis

    Hey Lewis

Ah man, am gutted to see that damage on the JP. That looks like transit damage, almost as if something heavy pressed against the top of the JP... I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped the crate whilst delivering it.. Have you spoken to Rob about it yet?

Anyway, i'm sure you'll have it in tip top condition soon... Looking forward to the paint up on this baby...

Thanks Webchief, glad your enjoying my build

No worries though Shiv, the gauntlets were ten times worse than the pack, hopefully goin out tommorow now to get some resin and matt. I sent Rob a messgae saying i got the pack and I mentioned the crack, but really there was nothing he could do about it anyway, stupid parcel force
So once that is all reinforced, I can then sand the pack down, fill in any holes, primer then ready for paint, im usin terminalfettlers and a bit of BFUK's colour list to paint it up. Really looking forward to painting this now though, so look out for updates
    Thanks,

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

    Update time
Firstly, really really happy as my new belt pouches arrived since I ruined my last set, so thats all sorted now.
Now the betters stuff Right as I said I felt the jetpack needed some TLC, also it had 2 cracks, which later turned into about 8 after a good look. I didnt take no photos of me fiberglassing and filling all the cracks and holes, also it wasnt very nice to see the jetpack all sanded and scratched. I did get a picture of my cleaned up rocket. This is with all the holes and inperfections filled, just needs a wetsand, primer then ready for paint.

So i fixed all the cracks and holes in the pack, then hit it with some plastic primer. Then with some tape and plastic bags, masked around the area I wanted to paint.

Once painted, I waited an hour before carefully removing the tape and plastic bags. I had a little bit of paint bleed on both sections but nothing that a little paint and a brush cant fix.

I also applied masking fluid to parts, as looking at referance images, there seems to be some grey damage area on the white sections. I removed these with a rubber brush so as not to affect the finish of the white.

So theres my first steps into my jetpack paint up, im goin to mask it all off again though tommorow, hit it with some 1500 wet and dry paper then give it another spray of white as it dosent look as good as it does in the pictures. Hopefully then I can start on the red sections

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Well, I go back to college now on wednesday so ive been trying to get as much done as possible as I can already see me getting swamped with work

So, like I said I wasnt entirely happy with the finish of the white, I got some of the finest grade sandpaper I could, 1500, and give it a very light rub followed by another spray of white. I am now really happy with the finish of it now, no cracks or imperfections so sorted
I then went on to the next layer the Red, I masked off the area I wanted, Sprayed grey, masked it off, sprayed silver, masked it off then I sprayed the red to get me this,

Then with a rubber brush, I gently removed the masking fluid to reveal the damage and scratches.

I then went onto the yellow sections, now this is the part when I started thinking to myself.....Why did I chose fett, I shoulda gone TK. Masking this took over an hour.
Once masked, I then sprayed grey and then masked the damage, followed by silver. I did spray a bit of the recommended yellow, but really couldnt get the finish right, so im out tomorrow to purchase a rattle can of the same yellow.

So hopefully I can get the yellow put down tomorrow and remove the tape to see if its all okay, the maybe hit it with the 1500 sand paper to dull it down a bit.
So should have an update tomorrow, Think im finally getting the hand of this airbrushing malarky

Well brother, you have done an amazing job here and very impressed with your skills. I am really looking forward to getting this project started for myself. It is going to take me a long time to get the money saved up for what I need but it will be good. Just bought my boots from MOW and should receive them withing the next couple weeks. I will start weathering that and see where it goes. Hoping that my project will look as good as yours when I am done.

I know it seems kinda silly to do it all individually, the silver im using is a rattle can and is very temperamental, it bubbles and cracks very very easily so I find it better to spray it on smaller areas. I had alot of problems with it on my gauntlets but when its put on correctly it really does look like bare metal

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Got a little more work done on the pack, the last for a couple of days : Went out and got the yellow paint and it matches up pretty well to the humbrol colour, and with the weathering and misting it will tone it down alot. So masked off and the damage masked as-well, then the yellow applied.

Now I had some problems on the left side of the pack so there is only one coat of paint on it, so thats got to be sorted when I have time. The other side is perfect, and has had a couple of coats so I removed the tape to avoid it seeping through.

So the pack is getting there, ive still got to remove the masking fluid, as well as mask the other side back up when its dry, thankfully a plastic bag will do rather than all that tape
So what do you think so far?
    Cheers,

It does look really yellow in that picture dosent it
I did a test spray next to the humbrol yellow that people use and its only a shade lighter. The paint tho is gloss and the pack is directly underneath a light, so maybe a clear coat or a rub down with some wet and dry will tone it down. As you said ive still got to weather it and I may also mist some of the humbrol ontop.
Thanks for the imput F4R, sadly the only krylon paints over here is the camouflage ones

Yeh I saw your build thread and your newest one with the completed suit, I gorra say my favourite part your suit is the jump suit, I think the weathering on it is awesome and the other soft parts, the rest of the suit aint to shabby either
I'll try an get another pic of the yellow tomorrow as it looks darker in person.

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Hey guys, got some big updates on my fett to share with you all. Firstly, after a long long wait, my tailored flight suit arrived. The suit is a perfect, in looks and fit, really accurate and has working pockets on the thighs. I also added a request to the maker to have the collar removed.

Also my harness, along with a replica US diving buckl and hooks arrived the same day. This thing is awesome, ive tried it on and its supper comfy and fits really well. Just gotta wait to paint the jetpack then I can hook it all together.

And speaking of jetpacks ive been doing some more work on mine. Thanks to fett4real. I realised that the yellow was a little to bright, So out came the sandpaper I stripped it back down to the primer, then started again, this time after painting the silver, I primered it again to give the yellow a better base to stick to. This Time I used the correct humbrol yellow and im very happy with the outcome. O and ignore the black on the white sections, its from when I sanded it and comes off easy enough Its still not entirely dry yet so I Havant removed the masking fluid, I'll get a picture up tomorrow when I have done. Also you can see how bright the other yellow was as the top tube section is still the original yellow, a couple of shades brighter than the humbrol one ive repainted it with

Jetpack is really getting there an its really good fun painting it, im also working on the rocket aswell but forgot to take some photos Pretty much all I have done, ive also tried the suit on with the other bits an bobs I have  Really cant wait to finish now that it sort wearable

    Didnt see the above posts
Red- Yeh the jetpack is a work of art mate, you really wont be dissapointed. I would also reccomend one of his softharness as they are also top notch, unless your getting the metal one? Im planning on getting all FP armour, but just starting back college my Fett funds are dwindling .
And yeh im still into biking, just a little road rash, bike wasnt to bad either. Looking at getting a new one now after Xmas.

F4R- im using terminal fettlers paint list. All of these are humbrol colours,

    Silver no. 11
    Blue no. 109
    Yellow no.154
    White no. 34
    Red no. 73
    Black no. 33
    Grey no. 79
    Brown no. 72, 94 and 62

    Thanks for the compliments guys

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Hey guys, havant really had any time to even think about my fett, yet alone work on it, but I managed to get a free couple of hours to at least do something with it

I know that most people leave the weathering to last, but I felt it would be easier to whether the yellow without the worry of damaging the blue. So im going for the art of star wars style JP, which is pretty dirty, so out came the airbrush. I masked off the white sections as I will be weathering them by hand with accrylics. So I hit the yellow with black, Now I know what your thinking......Ive ruined it.

But I knew what I was doing.....sort of. After the black was dry, I got some of the finest grade sandpaper I could find, 1500, and very carefully sanded away the black, being carefull so as not to damage the yellow, using referance images, I roughly tried to copy it, also using some artistc licence

The pictures dont really do it justice imho, as I am very happy with the way it turned, its a little heavey than what you see in the film, but I am goin for the dirty style fett. Ive still yet to do the top part of the tube which ive been meaning to, hopefully thats next on the agenda.
Some comments or criticism would be really welcomed, as you guys are the experts
    Thanks,
    Lewis

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Well finally I started working back on my fett and I have some piccies for you guys Sadly this is goin to be a sorta teasa pic, as I actually ran out of airbrush propellant, so only managed to do the centre blue bit and a little bit of the tank, will be goin out to get some tommorow so this should be finished by then
First off came the infuruating masking tape, its such a pain to get inline but this was the last colour I needed to mask for (I plan on hand painting the tops of the tanks) then I covered it in primer.

I then went ahead and used the grey of the primer, to act as the grey damage on the pack, so out came the masking fluid 8)

I then hit the pack with the silver rattle can spray,

Then began to mask all of the damage and scratches,

I then started to airbrush the blue, humbrol 109, before my bloody propellant ran out and I had to call it a day :

Since this was a pretty easy section to mask up, I thought I would see how the scratches came out, so with a rubber I gently began to remove the masking fluid.

So that was all I managed to do today, finish college early tommorow so can pop down to hobbycraft and get some spray to finish the thing. So more updates on hopefully the finished JP body tommorow
    Thanks,
    Welsh

    Re: SE Boba Fett build

Okay guys, been busy at work today on the boba. Went out and bought 3 cans of airbrush propellent as I wanted the blue finished today. So carrying off where I left off, I masked up the area I did yesterday and coated the JP in the blue.

I waited an hour then till the paint was still slightly wet, and began to remove the tape

Then I just had to wait for it to dry, suprisingly it didnt take that long for the paint to completley dry. So as usual I gently began to remove the masking fluid with a rubber, which left me with this,

So really really happy with the way it turned out, just got to paint the tank tops, rocket, door panel and sort the thrusters and its ready for mounting the harness.
So any comments and criqs would be really welcomed as this has tormented me for weeks, If any thing is wrong or out of place I would rather know now so I could hopefully fix with weathering, probably going to start on the tank tops tommorow and maybe the decals, so updates soon.
    Thanks,
    Welsh

Brother its looking GREAT...one thing I notice is the yellow on the top area around where it meets the blue should be weathered like the rest of the yellow lower areas, like in these pics
