Thanks. It's taking a while (although at least I'm not on any waiting lists) but I'm nearly there.

The blaster is the last big thing that needs doing. My Hasbro arrived and it's as small as I expected, but the larger stock and grip I scratch built don't look oversized compared to the body of the gun.



Sucky pictures again. My camera battery won't hold a charge. Anyway, I cut the patterned groove into the grip but decided against using aluminum mesh for the texture as 1) the raised pattern would be opposite of what it should be and 2) any glue I use to attach the mesh would pool in the recesses. I cut off the stock and dremeled away until the grip was flat. I cut into the grip to slot the plastic grip in place; I thought this would be a weak point, but after hot gluing it, supporting it with epoxy resin and then some bondo, it feels pretty sturdy. Then I trimmed down the trigger to shape it more accurately and cut the trigger guard to show more of it. Still lots to do.

I have the two sides attached now. I ran into trouble trying to attach the barrel since keeping the electronics gave me very little space inside to support the extra length. I ended up thickening the caulk tube with PVC which gave me some added weight and provided more of a surface area to glue to the body of the gun. In addition, I carefully hammered pins into the plastic, through the PVC which brought more stability and then I doused the seam in hot glue. This will later be bondoed for as much strength in the join as I can muster, but with it pinned in place, it's sturdy enough and I'm not sacrificing the electronics. I also bondoed seams and screw holes and cut off the scope, keeping the mounts which were strengthened with bondo. Given the weight of the wooden stock, any leftover space inside the blaster was taken up with playdoh and bondo so now I feel the weight will be better balanced. It currently has a heft to it, but I wouldn't say it's too heavy. Finally, I completed the stock by attaching the Hasbro blaster stock greebllies.


Now onto the t-tracks.

The blaster is ready for paint! I used styrene rods for the T-tracks; they're a bit thin but they still look the part, I attached the stock, using an extra screw purely for peace of mind and epoxy/bondoed it in place for added protection.

Really happy with how it turned out. I'm also turning my attention back to the voice changer as I'm not happy with the delay with Robovox. The delay itself wouldn't be so bad, but the problem is even with the helmet on, you can still hear my voice inside the helmet, so having two voices speaking at the same time is really distracting and difficult to understand. A friend let me borrow his iPhone so I installed Voice Synth. Much better, although for some reason I get a deep reverberating noise whenever it's set to live mode plugged into the amp attached to my PC speakers or playing through the iPhone's speakers, it's fine. I'm not sure if it's a bad cable or the Aker itself but if it is the Aker, then once again, I'm back to square one... I'm going to reinstall the app tonight to see if that fixes it and if not, buy a new male to male cable (even though it works fine for Robovox).

I made the spats and pouches. They're nothing special, but really pleased with how the weathering turned out. Essentially I lightly dyed beige calico material with pearl grey to take out some of the colour (leaving the left pouch in longer to take it more blue for SE) and then simply airbrushing it with a brown and grey.

Thanks! Blaster's done.


As is the flight suit after all the modifications I made. You can't really see the weathering; it's subtle like the SE version should be.


I've also started on the boots. The press stud secures the spats. I used Angelus leather paint for the soles and used their Acrylic finisher as a sealer. I may go back to it and give it a coat of Plastidip too given how paranoid I am it'll chip. I also hotglued shoelaces for the piping which is being secured with a few stitches; I also hope that will hold.

Starting to look like something. One shoe done, I just need to buy another shoelace to finish off the other one and then I'll weather them down with greys to blend them in better to an SE standard.

I started making this little thing.


I considered buying a 3D printed beacon, but was still a bit iffy on paying £20 for it (very reasonable for an accurate piece but as a budget scratch-build project, I decided to make my own for the grand sum of £0).

Installed my beacon. Not accurate at all but it frees up some of my budget. The top is from a water bottle. I managed to use up the very last of my solder connecting the lights but that's fitting since this was the last of the electronics to be done. So now my jet pack is officially finished.


I also finished my boots with the weathering. I brought the black down with greys then brought the grey up with blacks to lessen the distinction. Happy with how it looks with the spats. As I said before, I may Plastidip the soles for peace of mind that the paint is less likely to crack and show the red rubber underneath.


So now I just need to wait for my braids and cape in the post since everything else is pretty much done. I've already made some minor adjustments such as replacing the nylon webbing on the girth belt with elastic; SO much more comfortable and it feels a lot more secure. I also bumped up my squirrel fans from 9V to 12V with the addition of two extra AA batteries per fan; the fans are supposed to run at 12V so now they're a lot quieter and a lot more powerful.

I'm continually impressed with everything you do. I have yet to start on my scratch build jet pack. I hope mine looks half as good as yours.

Thanks. The jet pack is a big project, especially the missile. It's hard to keep enthusiasm going for it.

I bought some canvas, folded over the seams and stitched them. I put it in a 90 degree (C) wash to bleach out some of the colour and electric sanded it for more wear. I cut some holes with scissors although the tutorial I used was pretty old so may not be that accurate. I think I my have overdid the holes. After that, I airbrushed in some burn marks around the holes.


Now, I only have braids to get!

I'M FINISHED!

I received my braids. An ebay purchase. I dipped the silver/grey and blond braids in stewed tea to dye them slightly, then sewed them together and pinned them to my vest. I made the hair plumes a bit more knatty by running them through a straightener a couple of times.


This leaves me with only some minor upgrades, like ice packs, conductive thread for my gloves (to access the iPhone), batteries (a total of six 9Vs and eight AAs), and possibly plastidipped boot soles.

Already need to do modifications half way through the first suit up. The cod cracked after bending down once too many. I haven't fiberglassed the inside of the armour pieces, but it looks like it's pretty necessary on the cod. I'll get that repaired and try again. I'm glad it did crack now though rather than in the middle of a troop. I guess that's the point of these dress rehearsals.

My housemate also took a few pictures, although they're in poor lighting and not very comprhensive. Nevertheless, we got one good shot out of it which he's photoshopping into a better background, so I'll have that to show soon.
