Scratch built boots

As much as I would have loved to have purchased a pair of the highend Boba boots, they were a bit out of my price range. Therefore, basically using scotch tape and popsicle sticks I have begun making my own pair. I have on fully done (save for the aluminum strip/spikes). The other I have to start this weekend. Keep in mind these are not just boots painted like Boba boots, I couldn't find any boots around here similar enough to do that with. Let me know what you think. By the way, they cost under $30 in total.

Now that's ingenuity for ya!! They look excellent. You have to love the way that folk around here solve problems and here's another example :)

Looking pretty darn good for popsicle sticks. We do seem to do a lot of McGuyver-ing here.

I'm in the process of making my own scratchbuilt boots. I don't have time to make and do all the picture taking for a tutoral but I can explain what I did.

I bought these $13 clearance Rt. 66 chelsea boots at k-mart last week. They are brown suede with a thick sole and a heel. I took some foam (from an old sandal) and cut/ shaped it to fit in the triangular gap between the heel and bottom of the sole.

I rubber cemented that in. I am filling in the shape with silicone caulk that will dry firm but stretch. I have worn the shoes once so far for a few minutes and they seen to be OK.

After I give them a final shape up I will spray the entire sole with that spray on rubber. (a few times for extra support) I may also paint on a a layer of it on the bottom.

When that is done the shoes should be flat on the bottom and have the shape of the Boba shoe.

I will then prime and paint the soles with latex paint so it remains flexible and won't crack/ peel.

I will then spray paint the rest of the shoe to the appropriate colors. I will also add piping as well.

I think the suede will give the general impression of cloth once it has been primed and painted.

I've been toying with the idea of filling in the gaps on the sole, too. I'm not concerned about wearing them since my goal is to make a Boba mannequin so I may just use epoxy putty then sand and paint over it. Though I like the look of the soles. I know they aren't accurate but I think they give the boot an overall tough look.

Good luck with your boots. It sounds like a good idea. I wasn't able to find good enough looking boots that I could paint them, hence my long and drawn out method. Post some pics when you start, I'd like to see how yours turn out.
