General Running a half marathon dressed in ROTJ Fett...

Hi all,

I'm currently building a scratch, using WOF's amazing templates, ROTJ Fett to be ready to run a half marathon in October.

Any tips:
Anyone else ran in full Fett/Mandalorian kit?
Can you run wearing the cod piece / knee armor?
Anyone made trainers/sneakers into Boba Boots?
Should I carry a blaster?

Thanks and hello (first post).

runFettBoyRun,
I actually do a lot of running. Last year, I ran a Halloween 5k wearing a Stormtrooper helmet. I ton of bounce, lens fog and hard breathing. It sounded fun, but was really happy it was a short 3 miles. 13.1 miles is a different story, especially with gear. I would suggest extra padding & chin strap inside the helmet and practice running in an elevation mask to get use to the lack of oxygen you will get from wearing the helmet if you insist. With the helmet, suit and gear you will be burning up I believe with just a light jog once that morning sun rises. Honestly, try running with the helmet on a treadmill or local track for 3 miles carrying a blaster and I think you might change your mind. I plan on doing the 5k again this year, but in full Boba Fett gear, but this time I am walking with all the folks in the back. Good luck which your decision and training

You can expect at least some wear and tear on the armor as well, make sure it's attached ssecurely or you'll leave a trail of pieces behind you. Very hot and uncomfortable, the boots could tear your feet up too. Make sure like stated above you do trial runs first.

Applaud the idea, but I think it would destroy the costume. . You would probably shred the knee and cod armor, and the jet pack/backplate would be at big risk of damage unless there's no removable parts on the pack and it's not bouncing on the plate. Sounds like too much work unless you're going On the cheap for the costume. Making it yourself may save money on some items, but the hours and hours to do it, I'm too selfish to watch it get beat up. Good luck either way man.

I've ran a lot of Half's in my time and unless you are training I wouldn't do it. Then again I live in South Texas and run in a kilt. Props if you do it, but just be ready for a lot of walking and I would suggest taking someone with you.

I agree with syllander. Your suit is going to get beat up and you'll most likely be at risk for heat exhaustion. I get hot just standing in a flightsuit with gloves on so I can't even imagine running 13 miles in it with armor and a jetpack on. You might be able to get away with running with just the helmet, cape and gauntlets but having on the full on flight suit, armor, jetpack is a set up for dehydration and it's just asking to get your suit trashed.

Thanks guys for all the sound advice.

- When I get the helmet finished I'll try it out on a friend's treadmill.
- Vaseline is always the runner's friend.
- I will probably just wear my old trainers and make them look Boba-ish.
- The Jet pack will need to be extra secured, I may put holes in the back plate and run a set of rucksack straps through to hold it on.
- Yes Mike I am a little nuts!

Last year I did it dressed as Chewbacca and didn't drink nearly enough fluids as I couldn't get out of the suit! Felt a bit rough for a few days after but I did raise £700/$1100 for charity so all worth it :)

I used to walk 5K's in Boba but that was in the winter time in Texas and I was still soaking wet. As much as I want to do a 13.1 in my Scout to raise some money I know South Texas is a not a wise choice... If you do a half in Boba just be safe, please, the heat will kill you dressed or not if you are not prepared. If you do run, I stress again take a handler who can carry your gear, adjust your gear, hold some water, and train yourself wearing that gear. It's one thing to train in shorts and shirt. Its another to run it in Boba. Vaseline is ok, I prefer Body Glide since it holds up better for me.

Definitely a chin strap. Get some rubber knees if you can find them. Try to install a fan kit inside the helmet. This will keep the fog down (if possible). For a blaster... either get a foam core EE3 so it's super light, or perhaps get a Hasbro. That way if you drop it youre only out $50. Definitely do a test run.

Also you'll probably find yourself with sweat streaming into your eyes, so make sure you have something against your forehead to soak it up.
