ROTJ Jet Pack step by step

(y)

Lookin good bro, thats how I did mine also as far as the weathering, airbrushed an ash grey into the deeper crevaces, then a wider layer of brownish ontop of that, I then went back and touched up spots I thought needed more, then I black washed it to taste.

Superb job, comming along nicely

thanks...the weathering looks so much different in person. The flash really washes it out in these pics.

I am going to black wash it tomorrow!!

sorry it has taken so long for a update!!

Everything is topically done. I first traced the battle damaged on with pencil and then painted it with model master silver chrome.

That looks fantastic, I cant wait to see this in person!!!

I think some folks try to shy away from topical, although I belive that was how the jet pack weathering was done. It looks authentic and real in my eyes. I hope you come to the SciFi expo in july bud! Keep up the great work!

The thing you need to remember about topical is that it doesn't look real close up. In pictures it looks great but up close it looks topical. The real one may have been done that but onscreen you can't tell. I've seen stuff painted topically in person and it made me realize how much better masking is. It's more work but definitely looks better.

I'm not knocking this paint job at all. It looks great. Nice job DM. Just voicing an opinion.

I agree with you 100%...however masking is a pain in the ass. I personally hate doing it. topical is easier in my opinion and if done right it can look very good to 99% of the people who will see it. Only 1% of the FETT nuts like myself can tell the difference

lots of water very little paint mixed together and then you basically get a brush or rag and wash the entire jet pack. it gives it a very dirty beat up look.
