:)Hello all

I wanted to start this post because i'm having trouble finding a good ROTJ jet pack paint-up thread to follow. I wanted to know if any of you painters out there had a rundown on any threads, stencils, etc that you used( or are planing to use) on your own paint-up.

thank you

Justin

Was planning on just winging mine using reference pics and spray paint as close as possible in color. Would be nice to see a paint up though...

I look for some type of templates as well & then just spent time digging through the gallery finding good photos from each angle. I haven't finished my pack yet but I would call it around 80% at this point. Used the reference photos & did a layering method with spray paints. I free handed all of the major scratches & damage using liquid masking. Lots of time masking. Painted the main pack in this order:
1)Silver
2)White
3)Yellow
4)Blue
5)Red
6)Black/Grey

Did some light misting of grays & browns with each color. It has been so cold that I put a hold on doing any painting.

There are a few threads that show the process but none that really show all the fine details. The reference photos are the best option that I found.

When it comes to it, I will need one as well. I think welshwarrior had one somewhere....

That works good for me bro! All spray paint was where I was headed. The thing looked like it had been thru the wringer so I figured if done right it would be sufficient.

thank you guys.. that is the direction i'm headed in right now TG301. Ive assembled a lot of good reference pictures. I'm going to use mostly humbrol because i have them on hand except the blue. i just picked up a can of royal blue , we'll see if that works

Please post pics of your progress. I'm surprised no one has done a full jetpack tutorial yet...

The hardest part is the missle into opinion as in I found zero reference for the order in which it was needed to be painted lol I did the silver base and masked off where the silver is and then applied te reddish color and black and then took the mask off and respraid the reddish color and the silver to blend it together

awesome .. this will defiantly help a lot .. thank you

thank you.. it looks like the missile might be a bit of a pain .. I saw your pack.. You did a most excellent paint up

The missile wasn't too bad to do. I thought it would be a pain as well. Just tried to find photos from all sides was a pain. Mine was all done with spray paints.

At one time I came across that thread but when I went to paint my pack I couldn't find it. That was a good start too bad it never got finished. But definitely some good reference. The problem with the jetpack is that it is rather large & making templates would be rather time consuming.

Well good luck with you pack I am sure you will put an awesome paint job on it base on what you did with your helmet.

I do it by eye every time. No stencils. I just look at reference pics and copy the damage with masking fluid. For the most part, its just damage that goes to the silver under a single color, its not multiple color layers, so stencils aren't really needed. there are great reference pics in the gallery, i use some of these for the damage reference. If i recall correctly, the pic in the visual dictionary is the hero ROTJ pack.

Thank you DVH, that is what i was thinking ("silver under a single color, its not multiple color layers") , but i couldn't quit tell. That will make it a lot easier. I'm just gonna burn it in my brain. I appreciate the help very much

I recently sold my commissioned Fett suit. But missed it so much, I put together a budget suit
one of the things I did was gather all the left over parts that you gather over the years of fett-age

After months of erm-ing and ah-ing; I just just bit the bullet and went for it. Yes there is the humbrol paint list - but I modded it a bit as I am a rattle can hound.

The blue was the Humbrol 109
Yellow - I used Halfords filling primer yellow which got "good enough shade" of yellow
Red was a mixture of Rustoleum Claret Red and Cherry Red
scratches done by eye ball and applied topically
