Actually that looks more like an older set of MB Gauntlets. That rocket is dead on to his resin rocket and the dimples on the back of the right gauntlet are in the exact same spots as the set that I used to have. His gauntlets were a little on the small size.

That's how I just recently put mine together. Liberal amounts of Crafters Goop .. then apply clamps until it cures. It seems pretty solid that way.

Then I used Velcro on the opposing side. I strip on the inside of the gauntlets, one on the outside so that they overlap. BUT, since you said they're trimmed down so that they won't overlap that would be a problem. Unless you do extend them with a strip of styrene or sintra of course..
