ROTJ Fett Build (First Timer)

Tzhan

Hunter
Hey all.

As a few of you may no i've started down the long road off a full costume. I recently finished my first helmet which you can see HERE and after getting a few goodies in the mail over the last few weeks and months i'm ready to get started on the armour.

Vest and Neckseal from Batninja

Chest, knees, cod piece + butt, neck, back and shoulders from BobaMaker

Girth belt, cape and real horsehair braids from Woodsman

I'm making an ROTJ hero costume. I chose to start with an ESB helmet because it is easier to paint. I'm going to do a second helmet in ROTJ hero once the rest of the costume is done. I'll be adding new items to this post and the work i do further down the thread.

Just finished cardboard copies of the armour (neck not shown) to help with placing eyelets.

Okay more picture coming as I get a move on...

Quick updates. (i've combined some photos to save space (it's a bit of hack-job but I think it's okay)

Lightboard is ready

Have attached the backplate to the collar. Decided to not go with an accurate metal bar and just sink the bolts flush directly into the back plate. It worked fine till i lost control of the drill slightly and blew a junk of the armour off but it was nothing a bit of epoxy putty couldn't fix. I grinded down the bolts accordingly except the cape bolt which i'll deal with when i decide whether to use a gromet or not on the cape.

Thanks for looking.

Hey everybody, about to start painting the chest/back and shoulder bells and I am doing colour research. I'm using Raf's stencils and from this mindmap i've got the following Humbrol colours

Chest Armour
Silver - 11
Hunt Club Green (Light) - 78
Hunt Club Green (Dark) - 117
Stripling Yellow - 81
Shoulder Bells
Silver - 11
Mustard Yellow (light) - 103
Stripling Yellow (Dark) - 154

I'm probably going to be using stickers for the decals so i don't need to worry about paint colours for them.

Any advice for colours to use for weathering is also much appreciated.

EDIT: Gonna go with TF's AOSW list.

Armour attachment is all but done, i just need to cut down the bolts so i don't get jabbed every time i put the vest on. I lined the vest up by placing carboard templates and marking holes in the vest and lining the same holes up with the inside of each armour piece. From their is used super glue for the initial fit because i could easily snap the bolt off and replace it. Finally i filled around each bolt with epoxy when i was happy with the placement.

NB: from the last picture set it looks like i am way too small for that vest but i'm just wearing my pants really low :wacko.

I used the bolt/grommet method (from BBF) for my armor too, but I used acorn cap nuts on the back to keep it from poking. Another solution for you might just be a dab of hot glue on the bolt threads.

After having to sand back three coats of paint due to my masking liquid deciding to stick permanently after a serious heatwave i've finally managed to get the chest sections to a place that i'm happy with. Just a note: The green is much less splotchy in real life and i figure the satin i'm going to use is going to darken the green up perfectly. I also think the splatter came out quite well.

The shoulders are also coming along well, and i'm going to apply the decals when the shoulders are done too.

Thanks for looking, any comments are, as always, more than welcome.

It looks pretty well! Just keep the great updates coming! Is there any big difference between my new armor stencils and the bobamaker armor (shape-wize)?

The chest and shoulders are done, just waiting on some BM weathered decals. Pretty happy how they turned out.

Raf, the new stencils are closer but not perfect, i was doing most of these by eye from your stencils anyway just to lower my stress levels. I'll take some photographic comparisons for you some time in the next few days.

Just a quick semi-update. I have finished the backplate but am yet to take any pics. I've started on the knees after getting some awesome Dark-Side darts. I also just started on my new 2013 MOW boots. Base colour is down, time for some weathering. (sorry for ****** phone quality pics)
