ROTJ EE3 original electronics

Does anyone know the story behind the EE3 electronics that are evident in some of the gallery photos in at least one version of the ROTJ blaster? What the heck was this all about?

Here is one photo from that gallery showing some of the electronics, two switches and a panel evidently from some sort of electrical appliance (note the "ON" and arrow stamped into the panel):

Something to do with Luke chopping the barrel with his sabre - pyro smoke etc. Just watched the scene and there is a big shower of sparks as the barrel flys off.

Ha! I just was looking at the gallery photos again and did a search to see if anyone had asked this question! I guess I missed the response, but thank you from way back when Sidewinder! That makes sense.
