Right ESB gaunt sidepiece clarification...

Hey folks,

Maybe some of you sharp eyed types (or ones with better photos than me) can clear something up for me. the ESB right gauntlet (the one with the darts) curved side piece thats black and white, is it the exact same shape as the ROTJ one? the ROTJ one is also open, but has a tube set inside it. Is this also consistent in the ESB? The ROTJ one has the extra tube part below it, and in general looks deeper than the ESB one. Here's the clearest comparison picture I have. Any thoughts?

From what I have it seems altho the ROTJ sticks out further than then the ESB, the ESB does in fact have the tube as seen on fan made gauntlets such as FP versions.. (I'm digging around to find a decent pic of the right gaunt from original ref for ya) ;)

Thanks folks! I'm thinking that it probably does have it, but combing through screen caps and publicity stills doesn't really show anything conclusive. At least from what I've seen. Without a doubt the depth is different, but since the inside is black it makes it really tough to tell.

There is definitely a tube inside the ESB version. I am 90% sure that the tube is white while it's surroundings are black.

But there is a (small in my opinion) possibility that the tube is black while the inside of the casing is white. :wacko

But there's defo some white in there! :D

Anyway, judge the screenshots for yourselves - pics 16 & 18 are the best methinks:

Could have sworn I've seen a decent reference pic somewhere that shows the white pipe inside. Or was that on my old pc? :( Time to break out that old Behind The Magic CD.

I've come to the same "conclusion" as you. It's just so hard to be difinitive with this one item as I too poured over what to do. In the end I just left it all black until any real concrete source comes through. I thought the tube black and the surroundings white and vice versa 'til my mind melted....just isn't worth it.

Again, I do think that it is in there but with the following colour scheme...

Internal side faces = Black
Base = White
Tube = Black

Spot on. (I changed my mind) :p

Found a pic on my pc similar to yours (couldn't get my BTM cd working) I've just tried to upload, but I don't think it worked. :( There's also white at the front of that piece. Am I right in thinking it's a sort of hole/slot?

Shazam! I have my answer.... sort of...

I'm now convinced the tube is there. Take a look at the prepro2 gauntlet. Its color scheme is different, and missing the hose attachment. but its the lower profile with the white squares. I also had noticed the white detail on the end.

BUT.... interestingly enough, I stumbled upon another little detail. On the end, above the long white rectangle, the area with the two tall LED bulbs is recessed lower than the rest. Look at the top left corner and you can see it.

Look at the shadow just above and left of the LED bulbs, you can see the edge is curled over slightly. This is a pre-pro mind you, but this one might have been re-painted for ESB. or at least molded and cast.

Here is the gaunt again on the PP3 suit. I feel fairly confident this gaunt was repainted for ESB. Either way, along with the pics Shinobi_Fett posted of the PP1 (which at its core is the PP3/ESB suit), this shows that the thinner style of the grappling whip housing can/does have a tube in it.

Shinobi, I agree from those photos, it does appear to be recessed, but I believe that is a very unfortunate effect of the paint, scratches, and lighting. I don't think the piece is recessed as it initially appears. Take a look at this photo from a different angle and I think you will see there is no recess.

That's a great shot Art! Thanks. Still, if you look at the edge that the arrow points to, its noticeably darker and looks like its casting an edge shadow. It's probably just a visual trick, but it nags at me even still! :D I don't think I'll recess it either way.
