Quick ESB Flightsuit Weathering

Hey denters, I was struggling to figure out what to use to properly weather my Arkady ESB flightsuit. Since the base color is correct I didn't want to do any dyeing, so I did some research and heard many different ways from re-dying areas with a spray bottle, to airbrushing it in a few different colors like black, brown, and grey. So I just went with my instincts and did this weathering with just one Flat black Quick Color Spray Enamel that I used on another project. So I thought I'd share this and maybe help someone out some people stuck in this area. It's a little dark in the garage but personally I think I went a little spray happy in some areas but it works for using a rattlecan in under 30 minutes. Any feedback would be appreciated! I'll try to get some better pictures in better lighting when my suit is more complete.

This was done with a spray can? I think it looks good, I'm ordering my fs soon and I think this is the way I'm going to weather mine. If you have any more tips let me know.

Great job. I think it looks good as is but if you ever feel you did too much you can throw it in the washer with some detergent and it should reduce the effect. I did mine the same way. Charcoal also works great for a less permanent effect. :thumbsup

I used black, and three different browns (tan/med/dark) and randomly alternated layers sprating from between 2&4 feet away.

Thanks guys for the comments and support I'm glad it worked out. Hopefully it can help some other people out too. Yes jc, it was all done with one flat black spray can in about 30 minutes. I don't have any tips except to do light mists at about a foot away so you can slowly build up to what you like.

charcoal gets on EVERYTHING though so you know it will be on anything thats not black

So would I want to do the same thing to the flak vest and neck seal?

I wouldn't, I can't find any pictures that show any definite weathering on the neckseal or vest. If i'm wrong I definitely want someone to point it out. Maybe Rafalfett has a word on this?

I'm thinking of doing a very light grey-brown overall dye job, just to tint the flak vest everywhere before applying any local weathering in particular areas, creases, folds, seam lines, etc. The stark white that the flak vests come in is definitely too bright, IMHO.

Good idea, I think I'll hit up Raf to get his opinion on this.

Looks great man.....Ive been doing my jumpsuit, and flak vest.....and alot of other weathering like this since '09 lol I use krylon black primer though. It has that greyish sooty look. Works l;ike a charm and only takes a few minutes.

I did my flak vest as well, but less than the heavy parts on the bottoms of the legs on the jumpsuit. I also did it a little without the armor on, and then did it with the armor on it as to weather the vest and armor at the same time. I think it worked out great. I get ALOT of positive comments on my Fett. I honestly think alot of it has to do with the weathering. A flak vest thats too light grey just doesnt look right. I tried to keep the tone even to the lighter parts on the jumpsuit. When i was a kid i didnt even realize he had a vest...actually until i really started researching as an adult, i never realized the vest was there or a different color. When i look at reference pics now..they look very close in "weathering tone" if you will. Especially on ESB. A little less on ROTJ, but still similar. Good weathering is very important on the Fett man IMO.

Thanks Lou, I appreciate it. I wish I heard about that earlier. I'm happy it turned out alright.

oh man I was about to start on one of Caroles master pieces and I have never been so nervous... Keep that advice coming
