Quick and dirty Functional Belt Pouch

Howdy, I'd been looking at Boba Fetts costume for most of the work day (slow day), and decided to knock this out after I got home.

It's a real quick and dirty prototype for functional belt pouches. I was in a hurry so I carved the forming block out of styrofoam, which made for softer folds in the leather. I need to make some wood blocks to make 'real' ones.

I used rare earth magnets I had stuck on my fridge for the closure. Works great, but I'll probably use one magnet on the inside and some steel tape on the flap. These ones I just super glued on to see how well it would work.

What do you think?

Thanks! Man those are great reference shots. The 'larger images' are huge. I was talking more about the hard folds in the box part. The flap folds were made using a leather groover on the backside.

I see now what people were talking about with the double thickness of material folded over for the flaps--that makes the stitching make sense, and the less than sharp flap folds. I may have to run by tandy's for some thin leather ;)

I'll post process/pattern pics once I make a wood form, sometime in the next few days. It may be useful since I wet formed the box part, which is really simple and effective for stuff like this.

The process was:
Carve block/make patterns from it
Cut leather to patterns/add fold grooves to flap
Get box leather good and wet and wrap around block form (held to it with cloth ties)
Stain and stitch flap
Take box off form (once dry), and stain it
Cement flap to box (and try not to get high on barge cement)

Yes, you should definitely make use of the various galleries as you get your build up and running. There is so much material there it can be tough to keep track of. I'm interested to see what you come up with.
