Question for lady Fetts

I've got broad shoulders, so no shoulder padding for me.

A trick I used to keep the curves on top from showing as much was to design the vest so it only fastens until mid-back. Because it's open in back on the bottom part, it will naturally kind of hang straight down rather than curving over the...curves. There's no padding because I didn't like how it felt. Instead, there's just a gap under there. I *didn't* leave open the vest I made for the last tutorial, and you can tell in the pictures where I'm wearing it. The gap method worked for me, anyway.

Okay.....after MUCH consideration, I think what I'll do is use a '95 DP (since it sounds to be 1/8" smaller than the rubies jango, and already has a dent), make an unpadded vest but try to make the shoulder bells stick out a little (perhaps attach them a little higher on the shoulder?), and if soju and I want to switch costumes, we'll just make our own vests/armor. We can still share jumpsuit/boots/gauntlets/helmet, etc. Thanks a lot, guys! I really appreciate all your input! Now....to find a '95 DP.... *rubs hands together*

Really? MaxPlague said his 95 DP measured 9 1/8" across, and Soju's Jango measures 9 1/4". Is it larger in some other respect? (chin to forehead, perhaps?)

The Rubies has totally different dimensions. It's really elongated front to back, to begin with.

It's shorter from top to chin, in comparison pics I've seen. They've got to be around here somewhere if you hunt around.

both girls are correct :) but just take a 95DP is the best choice :)
i have a fiberglass recast dp95 and i need to tell ya ... i love this helmet :D

Geez, I got to this post WAY late. Apparently I need to check the boards more often! Anyway, I did pad my vest, but in a couple of different places. I used ordinary shoulder pads (you can get them at a fabric store). I made sure they were the thickest I could find--if I remember correctly, they are something like 1 1/2 inches thick at the wide end, and they taper down to about a millimeter thick on the thin end, over the length of about 4 inches. I used a total of four pads (two per side) sewed to the inside of my jumpsuit.

For the first set, I sewed them between my neck and my chest with the wide end pointed up. This helped to smooth out the transition between my D cup chest and my neck. It makes my chest look more buff instead of curvy, and now my chest armor sits nearly vertical instead of sloping.

I sewed the second set, also wide end up, to the insides of my jumpsuit sleeves at the shoulder seam. In other words, they sit on the outside of my shoulders and go down the outside of my upper arm (instead of sitting on top of my shoulders as you traditionally think of shoulder pads doing). This makes my shoulders and upper arms look wider.

I noticed the extra warmth, but I'm always hot and sweating in the suit anyway, what's a few extra inches of padding here and there? ;) Seriously though, I have found that when I feel like my shoulders and chest are broader and bulkier, it helps me walk with the confident "strut" a little better, and I feel more in character, so the extra heat is well worth it.
