Question on girth belts

How do they measure the lenth? Do the measure them from the tips of the buckles(the entire length) or the end of the braids,(minus the buckles)????

Or to put it another way : Are the buckles included in the measurement?

It's best to ask.

I ordered a girthbelt and they measured the rope part only. The buckles were not counted and so the belt was too big.

If you call on the phone they can order you a smaller belt. They can get them in 24 and 28 inch sizes.

Quick question. I'm a 38 waist. Should I go with that or bigger to allow for the bulk of the flight suit? How much leeway can you get from these? Thanks.

smaller, if you look at reference pictures, his girth belt doesn't go all the way around his waiste, there's 2 black straps that finish it off.

I'd measure around your hips, not your waist. I can't vouch for all girths, but my synthetic mohair girth came 2" shorter than I ordered. It's meant to be streched around a horse to get those 2" back.

So basicaly measure around the hips taking into account the cod and butt plate then subtract a few inches to get the right gap in the back. Sound right?

i just got mine on saturday from www.completeequestrian.com and i ordered a 36", i'm about a 34" waist and in my street clothes i have about 6" of space between the buckles. so, i guess they run a little smaller than their size.

I'm still a bit vexed by the whole "what size should I buy?" issue. I have a 38 inch waist, 40 inch for a super comfortable pair of pants. I planned on buying from completeequestrian.com, but I'm not certain which size to order. I'd hate to have to ship one back and pay more shipping charges than I have to, I'm sure you can relate...It'd be super convenient if we could somehow create a size chart, helping you match up which belt you should order for your particular waist size. Could anyone lend a hand?

after dyeing they shrink some too so they need to be strethced out and held until completely dry

They shrink but mine didn't shrink to much at all. I bought a size 50 because I didn't know how much it would when I got done dying it. I would say that it is probably a 48 or 46 size right now. I have yet to attach anything so that I can close it in the back at the gap.

Confusing, confusing, confusing...It seems some stretch where others didn't. Would that have something to do with the difference between mohair and synthetic materials I assume? The one I was looking at is mohair, so I guess I can order one a couple sizes larger, then dye it resulting in shrinkage, so then I guess I can string it between two boards, stretching it until it's about right then. Unless anyone can shed more light on the subject for me...
