Question about flightsuit?

I was hoping to buy an ESB flightsuit but we all know its expensive. Some people here do amazing work and they are worth it.

My question is: If I were to attempt to make my own ESB flightsuit - is there a Dickies coverall that could be used as a base? What about a color that is close?

WOF has these great templates for the pockets. I have access to a sewing machine and someone who will help me through the process.

I know I would have to buy a long and short sleeve coverall. That way I could have the long sleeves done already and the extra material from the 2nd suit could go to make the pockets

Then I could then use my cash for purchasing a vest.

Any suggestion? Thanks!

Paul

I also use the Kwik Sew pattern as a base to start with, but I have found that If you measure a medium, for example, you should cut as a small. Because it is a coverall, it allows room for street clothes to be worn underneath.

yeah, that bit me too... i cut mine as a medium and ended up trimming it down a LOT.

Thanks for your replies! (and the link)

If I go the quicksew route I may just ask my mother to help. She has all the sewing gear. I may try the pockets myself. That should be easier for me to do.

Now another question... if I buy white twill material, what color Rit dye do I use for an ESB suit?

Thanks again!

I hate saying this... but try the search function for ESB suits as other members have posted in the past of their choices of dye?
I myself do not know them? sorry bro... :facepalm

i can't help with the esb side of things... any my dye job on the rotj suit would be totally unreproducible!

from what i remember, the complicated parts of making the suit were basically getting the short sleeves working right, and making sure it wasn't too long/short in the torso. otherwise it wasn't bad at all. if you mom sews a lot, it should be relatively easy.

I will try looking the color up.

I also just saw that Costumebase suit too. I read the thread. I think the color he had on Ebay was more like ROTJ color. I e-mailed him about the color. I know his suit isn't completely accurate but I don't mind moving the pockets. I could probably get help with the sleeves too. But like you said... too long/ short in the torso... that might be an issue. The ebay pic looks a little short. Oh well...

I will have to figure out something...

I personally tried that. I went around and found several differnt coveralls. I found some that were similiar color but nothing worked out quite right. I don't think anything will really be able to be modified too well. Best idea is to have Ladysewforus either make it for you or just ask her for advice. She is my aunt and she is a very sweet women.

Thanks Jango Nate. I did contact Lady. She is busy with lots of other orders.

I recieved an e-mail from Costumebase and they said their suit is only one color. I was concerned about torso length anyway.

My search goes on...
